Never been too fond of bankers but it does expose the scale of the error we are making:-

were these estimates made by people with a good track record of producing accurate forecasts or just the usual treasury/OBR people who have consistently been proven inaccurate?0 -
Britain's post-Brexit border controls are not up for negotiation in the talks on leaving the EU, David Davis has told MPs.
In one of the clearest signals yet on the direction of the talks, the Brexit Secretary said it was vital to respect the referendum demand for lower migration.
In his first evidence session with the Brexit committee, Mr Davis said it was not his job to set immigration policy only to regain complete control over it.
Asked if border control would be up for negotiation, Mr Davis said: 'No.'
The move suggests the Government will completely leave the EU's free movement of workers system - implying a full exit from the single market. If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -
That's more you can add to the UK unemployment lists then.
The UK is no longer worthy of my business.💙💛 💔0 -

What void? One requiring freedom of movement within the European Union, without the hassles I mentioned last week?
I will fill that myself.💙💛 💔0 -
That really weird moment you actually agree with something that someone from UKIP has said.......

well banning those that discrimination in favour of white christian europeans and against all the other peoples of the world, might be an interesting idea
Don't worry Clapton, you don't have to come over the unlimited immigration side, in fact you can't. Your side of the country is the only place from where immigration will be prohibited.0 -
Ruggedtoast - I wonder if you are as Saintly as you like to consider yourself...
Look at the places middle class 'liberals' congregate; The Fringe and Glastonbury - barely a brown skin in the audience, certainly not many working class.
Not content with being top of the pile, middle class 'liberals' want also to be top of the moral pyramid by speaking for working class and brown people, but meaningfully mixing with them is a bridge too far.
George Orwell was right all along. Class warriors never did like the working class, they just hated the rich even more.
I'm not saintly at all.
I'm not a xenophobic UKIP supporting bell-end either.
Its possible to strike a middle ground.0 -
One example? VAT Directives. I think it should be up to the UK government what has VAT attached and what doesn't.
I agree outside of the EU they should. Inside the EU some harmonisation of VAT is necessary.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
We want to make our own laws, a very curios notion for some. Having laws inflicted by far away bureaucrats that are in no meaningful way accountable to me, where I can unlikely even name them or know how to vote them out, is at complete odds with efficient meaningful democracy
A standard old line of remainer argument is to imply there aren't all that many laws made by the EU, OK so I will play along and agree, in which case we won't be missing anything given we make most of our laws according to EU defenders
I agree it is far better to have regulations inflicted on us from the UK!
It may well be the case that we can manage with less regulations and save lots of money, but the UK's track record on regulation is not that great either. Consider the list below which indicates that the UK is currently subject to about the same level of economic regulation as the USA and both are above most EU nations including GER, FRA. ITA.
So are we over -regulated by choice or because of the EU?
