:j:j:j June was a good month- OP of just over £900. New mortgage is sorted but I need to confirm if I keep the same account number. July OPs currently being kept to one side until that's confirmed.

Holiday starts on Wednesday and I cannot wait! :j:j:j
Done most of the packing and aiming to just need a few bits sorted when I get back from work at the lunchtime. A meal has been booked near Heathrow and we'll hopefully have time for a leisurely check in so we get time in departures: is it embarrassing to love departures? It just makes me feel properly in the holiday mood!

See you in a few weeks!

We're back (and midway through the washing)! It was simply amazing. It's a beautiful country with so much to see and a range of climates. Best thing for me was Sigiryia: I have a fear of falling but I braved going up and down and it was so worth it! Thing I would change was the Yala Safari: having been to Kenya I had probably been spoiled, but it was way too packed with vehicles and o had moments where I felt really sorry for the animals.

We'd definitely go back as we missed Galle and would like more time to re-visit some of the historic sites (our boys found this a bit dull!). I totally loved it and wish we had the time over again :):):):)

We stayed in a lot of different places all over the island so if you've any questions then please ask (PM me if you wish)!

So, yes, as above, I'm back after an amazing holiday! We've not overspent too badly (had some contingency spending money!) so it's back to paying off that mortgage. The new rate has kicked in and I need to wait until next week to finish the overpayments for the month.

What it looks like though is that I'll be able to overpay just over £300 more per month than currently. With my regular overpayments the total will be a little short of £600. The plan after that is to get as close to £800 each month as I can: simple, surely?!:eek::eek:

  • We're staying just north of Galle for the 2 weeks. I'd love to get to some of the temples and animal sanctuaries but they seem to be quite a few hours drive from where we're going to be. I'm sure we'll manage to get out somewhere.

Our mortgage fix is up in December and I'm looking around for new rates. It's crazy how much extra you can OP when you're not paying the interest!

A car and driver aren't too expensive. We were warned that the elephant sanctuaries aren't necessarily great places to visit as the animals are exploited for rides etc so you need to check (Trip Advisor good there!). If you can find somewhere to see them in the wild that's good too. There's temples everywhere! Kandy is great and probably nearest to the Galle area as it has The Temple Of the Tooth and an amazing Buddha overlooking the city from a hill. Apparently it's also whale watching season round the coast from Galle in Marissa.

Might come back with you! :rotfl:

  • Thanks for the tips. I did wonder about the sanctuaries re exploitation, will have a deeper look into that. I've never seen whales in the wild so that would be amazing to go and see!

I think it depends on which one so might be worth some research. Have a great time!

It's been a while since I checked in...been back at work and pretty busy. Been eating out too much so I'm spending the weekend doing some cooking to stock up. OH has taken the boys to see his mum for the weekend with the boys so DD taking me out for belated birthday cocktails tomorrow...I sense there will be another meal out I pay for! :rotfl:

OP this month was £189: less than usual as I've moved my main OP date to the start of next month, so there will be big OP next week at the start of the month

September looks to be busy as it's eldest son's birthday and my parents will come over from Spain. And back to school means I'll be up earlier to get to work due to extra traffic
