Are The Forum Team being "Heavy-handed" in removing posts?

• Hi!

There's never one, single reason why posts are removed - because all posts and circumstances are different.

Our Forum Rules explain the reasons why certain posts may be removed though.

I'll ignore the comment about our photo, other than to say thank you.... I'm 42 :)

• In response to MSE Andrea:

Before I respond I would ask any reader to note that I post this due to frustration with these forums, in the hope that some improvement may be made which will be to the benefit of ALL users.
Certainly NOT as some form of an "attack" on these forums OR on any single poster therein - and that includes staff.
______________________________________________________

I thank you for responding Andrea though (sadly) you are telling us "forumites" nothing which we do not already know.
Any sensible poster is - I am sure - very well-aware of the Forum Rules.

There are, I freely admit, times when I have perhaps "sailed close to the wind" in my interpretation of these rules as, I am sure (especially from my regular visits to these forums), have many other contributors. ;)

HOWEVER:

If I reply to a posted question, for example: "what's the harm in replying?" with these lines:
"I would LOVE to answer your question. However, it seems that if I reply to your question (in ANY way) my post will be deleted. Make of that what you will."
and that response is then deleted, perhaps you can understand my frustration and perhaps give at least some indication as to WHY the post - which I would hope you will agree does not contravene Forum Policy in any way - was deleted?

In my frustration at such actions I have recently added (for example) "But something smells."
This - at a real "push" - I CAN understand as very broadly-speaking not falling into the "Be nice" category.

Reported or not, these posts are being removed by YOU (perhaps NOT personally ;) ) the Forum Team.
This not only frustrates myself and others who have noticed (even those who do not comment); it disrupts the "flow" of a thread and makes that thread (at times, certainly) incoherent.

Please, PLEASE do something about this for the sake of these forums.
Because it is driving at least SOME of us nuts!

• No response?

Hhmm.
I was not really expecting any form of (especially lengthy) discourse given how busy "The Team" are. :p

Which is a shame.
More-so given that these very forums are obviously the places where (just as one example) many of the ideas for the television shows come from. ;)

Reduce the satisfaction of visitors to the site and you will inevitably eventually reduce the number of visitors and also therefore of contributors.
In turn this will lead to a decline in the site overall which neither I, nor most members I'm sure, would really like to see.

Perhaps this reduction in visits is already happening, since there have been no replies from other posters - which is MOST unusual - either in opposition OR in agreement.

I have had the satisfaction of being told how busy they are and to stop wasting their time.

They removed my post when i made a very short couple of word reply saying no the OP could not sue everyone under the sun for their own mistake.

The post below mine was quite nasty and i wonder if they removed the wrong one. They said i could report that post if i wanted to.

I don't think they even knew what i had written, and then threatened to PPR me...

Clearly trying to imply to others that you are unfairly treated while knowing the forum team will not reply and you cannot see why a post like that would be deleted?

If I saw a post saying that, I would probably report it as a breach of this part of the rules.
If you disagree with a Forum Team decision, please email your appeal to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com. Please don't question Forum Team decisions on the public forum; they're unlikely to see your post anyway. This includes criticising individual members of staff. It's our job as an employer to protect our staff. Any such posts shall be removed, and the appropriate action taken.

I politely suggest that you try reading the thread?
Where - in the very first post I clearly state "I have noted many threads where individual posts have been removed".
Also note that the above is/was factual and not implication.

Really?
Despite the very clear first paragraph, beginning: "Before I respond ..."?
And including "for the sake of these forums"?

If that is indeed the viewpoint of numerous members within these forums, all debate herein - and hence these forums as we know them - will soon be finished.
Since (using that kind of logic) anything posted may fall foul of some part of the forum rules; notice in earlier posts the reference to the "be nice" rule, for example.

Is this really what MSE Forum members want?

Yes, because I was talking about your example of what you might post elsewhere on the forum, not on this thread.

One thing you should be aware of.
MSE gets little or no return from existing (long-standing) members of the forum as they are wise enough to turn off the skimlinks and more likely, seldom use the main site anyway.
MSE makes its money from new members clicking through all the sponsored links blissfully unaware that they are filling the pockets of the owners of the site.

I never told you that by the way :shhh:
