I've always thought that paying more than £20/month is madness.
Now Martin Lewis on his program on ITV tonight agrees.
So don't get sucked in by all the hype or what your mates say, just get a better deal, you can save money by buying your own phone and a payg sim, you just need to do a little bit of research.
Cheers fj

Now that many landline providers offer inclusive calls to mobile numbers, a large number of people could save money by using their landline rather than their mobile to make calls when they are at home.
Cutting down the allowance on your mobile to cover only your usage when away from home will save a lot more money than the extra couple of quid per month you'll be paying your landline provider.0 -
£20 a month - THEY pay ME for my contracts.0

Talking to people at work about buying phones outright and going PAYG and everyone seems to prefer contracts. Most seem to have been brainwashed with the contract mindset and are simply not interested through laziness in the cheaper (and sometimes much better) alternatives.0

Ours (Plusnet) doesn'ta large number of people could save money by using their landline rather than their mobile to make calls when they are at home.
So to phone them, mobile to mobile, we (of course) have to stand on one lag by the lounge window to get a decent signal :mad:0 -
I pay £35, £12 of that is airtime and the rest is the phone price. So I'm paying £552 for my phone (same as the one the guy wanted on money show last night, including colour!) it is £539 on the website, however I got £40 cash back on my contract. So I have found it cheaper than buying the phone outright.0

I'm paying £19.99 per month sim free for unlimited minutes and texts and 4Gb data...but with cashback that works out at just over £7 per month !
That takes some beating0 -
Who?
Ours (Plusnet) doesn't
TalkTalk offers inclusive calls to mobile numbers by buying an add-on or 'boost' for several pounds per month.
Virgin Media offers inclusive calls to mobile numbers on their XXL Talk Unlimited Extra package.
As the Mobile Termination Rate continues to fall, inclusive calls to mobile numbers from landlines will become ever more common.
The MTR is currently 0.68p per minute, having steadily reduced in annual steps from around 3.95p per minute in 2009.
The MTR will be around 0.51p per minute from 1 April 2017. This compares favourably with the current Termination Rate for calls to 01 and 02 numbers of 0.21p per minute and for calls to 03 numbers of 0.56p per minute.
BT will be the last of the large providers to offer inclusive calls to mobile numbers from landlines. They are currently fixated on offering inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers, all the while encouraging businesses to adopt these numbers because they are 'free to call from BT landlines'. Little is said about the Service Charge paid by callers on other networks which benefits BT when numbers hosted by BT are called.A certain younger member of our family unplugs their landline as all they get is junk calls!
So to phone them, mobile to mobile, we (of course) have to stand on one lag by the lounge window to get a decent signal
Perhaps several family members could club together and purchase this as a birthday or christmas present?
In the end it will pay for itself as your mobile bills will be lower.0 -

With the exact package you have that's a great offer.
My OH is more than happy with 1000 minutes with unlimited calls to family members who also have a SIM on the same bill...i.e me... Unlimited texts and 3GB of data (the OH uses wi-fi as much as possible and rarely hits 500MB per month). £5.50 per month and with cashback it knocks it down to £1.75 per month. My SIM is free with far less minutes, texts and data but still with unlimited free calls to the OH's SIM. I use her phone when I want to make a longer call to someone else.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
