You should. Over 7 years you would have paid off 21% of the mortgage. So you'd be immune to a 26% price crash, putting the most negative spin on having 26% equity.

If you really do not understand this, I fear you will end your days poor.

Alec Smith of ECA International said that Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow had recorded the biggest rent increases over the past year, due to high demand for rental property.

On the other hand, Aberdeen, which has suffered from the downturn in the oil and gas industry and the subsequent loss of residents, who are seeking jobs elsewhere, has seen rental prices fall by 16pc.
