On a practical note and this may or may not matter to some people. If you don't want to get married for whatever reason, you should at least have joint wills if you're not and you'd like your OH to have some control should anything happen.
Unmarried partners have practically no rights. I think this was highlighted on here recently with what happened to naebbriac's mother when her dear partner passed away.

Just something to think about if you're in that position.

I do think there should be some way of declaring yourself 'officially' partnered with someone and then in law you have the same rights etc. Its not something if looked at to much tbh. I did hear on the news a man and woman want a civil partnership and they can't (its for same sex I believe) I feel that its probably to much for me as well though.

My main thing is if I die I want OH and son to get what they would if we were *actually* married

  • I just don't like the idea. I wouldn't change my name and what if I want to leave? Makes it more complicated. I feel like we are together because we want to be
Keep it that way....Like you say complicated if you want to leave and very expensive....Only one person benefits from a D ...:rotfl::rotfl:

It's possible and cheap to do by yourself. About £20 for a kit from WH Smith. it's also possible to use online templates, just make sure they legally cover your circumstances. I have no doubt at all you have above and beyond the intelligence required to complete one ;)
if people prefer a solicitor, it would cost about £200 ish (don't quote me on this, it's dependant on circumstances) for a basic double will.

If you are legally married then you haven't much to worry about as long as you trust Mrs Anon to carry out your wishes and don't expect her to go shopping every day to replenish the stash empire you have built :p:p
They also have National will week if you want to wait until November.....Select Solicitors do it around the country if you make a donation to Charity :):)

  • Tea shop from wednesday I only just checked it! I was obsessing and stressing over my tooth so I didn't have room in my head to worry about this at the time.
