And this is why whenever possible once the sale is agreed keys should be retrieved from the estate agent and handed back upon vacation of the property.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I would get the locks changed regardless if you trust them or not."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

When I last moved, I was a couple of hours late moving out and the buyer (who was a buy-to-letter) actually came round with carpet swatches asking for my opinion on which was best! He also had the Sold sign changed to a TO LET sign whilst I was still there. But he was very friendly about it and even let me leave my rubbish.
Our vendors on the other hand moved out the night before into a Premier Inn0 -

We are in no hurry to move, and not losing out from them being there, we're not moving in for a week or so, hence me avoiding confrontation, i've never met them before and i'd prefer not to have to speak to deal with them.
It seems weird for this to happen, is it illegal, has the estate agent messed up?
Did you tell them you were not moving in on completion day. If so isn't it reasonable that they are taking their time? They do need to vacate on the day of completion but as others have posted things can happen to delay matters.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

To be fair, it would have helped matters if thy had let him know/asked whether they were able to take a few more hours to move out.0 -
On the other hand - there are some vendors who are organised enough that they've basically gone the day before Completion Day. So I don't really see why anyone would expect leeway for inefficiency.
For my last house my stuff was 99.9% packed and in the removal van the day beforehand and I came back first thing in the morning and took last few bits (ie those that were literally going with me in the car). Cue for being 2 hours into my car journey to Wales before I was rung by my EA and legal executive to say "Completion just happened" and instantly instructed my EA to hand over the keys to buyer then.0
