Simply can not afford to pay speeding fine?

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but this forum is plagued by newly registered users posting controversial stories that invariably end up in the regulars arguing amongst themselves.
I therefore reserve judgement on the veracity of this tale.
It may be true in which case I offer my sympathy to Jennifer and hope she finds a way out of her predicament.0 -

I don't think it was an unreasonable question. Were you even insured to drive your sisters car?
That too was one of the first questions that occurred to me. Some years ago I made the mistake of driving a friend's car with her permission thinking I was covered by my own insurance. I wasn't but very fortunately did not get caught nor get involved in an accident.
If Jennifer takes this to court, will the CPS or Police or Court ask questions about insurance?
If she wasn't insured she might be in a far worse mess than a simple speeding fine.0 -
A question about insurance was asked illiterate scotsman!
No "jumping to conclusions when they are not aware of the facts"
Exactly. Surely it's worth warning the OP of the possible consequences if they weren't insured and get stated as the driver by the sister. Not sure if the system is joined up enough to pick it up but I wouldn't want to test itRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Troll.
Nil points awarded due to shabby effort, if this had been a homework exercise, writ at the bottom in red pen would have been the ominous words...''see me''0 -

To me it came across as more of a rhetorical question, and did feel slightly loaded.
I too have any driver fully comp on my insurance and I can drive any car not normally kept at my address with fully comp cover (not third party as normal)...0 -
I've had fixed penalties for speeding after being flashed by a camera and also ended up in court for speeding after being flashed by a camera not once was the subject of insurance brought up although I did have it anyway.
The court won't ask for proof of insurance unless the op is prosecuted for no insurance and the op contests it.
The cps will prosecute for the offence of speeding.
Op if you end up in court apologise to the court for being there, fill in a statement of financial affairs, explain that you would have accepted the fixed penalty but with Xmas just passing money was tight and not available to pay the fixed penalty within the 28 days.
Although the fine will be larger than the fixed penalty a weekly or monthly payment plan might be easier for you over a period of time.
If you still have difficulty paying the fine speak to the court fines department and try and arrange something rather than hiding until the bailiffs turn up.0 -
On the subject of insurance no one knows what insurance the op's sister has on the car and who is covered to drive it, maybe the op's sister is younger and added the older sister as a named driver to bring the price down, maybe anyone over 25 can drive it, not one person asked why the child's father didn't pay towards the hospital visit, she's getting slated for something she might possibly have done but no one knows!0

OP, it's a hard-hearted world on here. If you don't drive regularly, it is easy to miss things, especially if driving in an unfamiliar place.
It seems that as you are a bit skint, people presume you are a proper naughty criminal and drive with no insurance, probably no licence and eat McDonald's twice a day and have twelve children.
The best bet is to borrow the money and pay the fine. There will be a cost in going to court and, although you may be able to spread the payments, it will cost you more in the end.Je suis sabot...0 -

on with a question regarding her inability to pay a fixed penalty.if you have nothing constructive to post then why bother?.
my advice would be to contact a lawyer or CAB im sure she can find some free legal advice at a goverment funded advice centre.
To the poster who brought up the question of insurance some folk like myself have a any driver with owners permission to drive.Yet again people jumping to conclusions when they are not aware of the facts.
However, a person requires for own insurance and vehicle to be covered to drive other cars, the OP does not appear to have a vehicle.0 -
Yes, but that's none of your business and outside the scope of the question being put. You know nothing about the poster, so don't make things up.Je suis sabot...0
