Managed to get into productive mode:

    * Used £1 Covent Garden Soup voucher in Sainsbury's to get 5p soup. (Link)

    * Walk through the first snow at a nearly Loch. Very cold out. Then home to await the boiler engineer who was three hours late and not a word of apology.

    * Washed both Dyson filters. Went onto YouTube for instructions on how to remove them as I couldn't remember! Apparently this should be done only in cold water with no detergent. They're drying on the radiator racks now. Took apart and washed all the plastic components, they're drying near the radiator. Looks like a new machine now.

They still do this one in a few colours. £5-£6. We have one. (Link)
Thanks Ally, that was a great help as I couldn't remember the ranges name, it was the same range but I need the really narrow one http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90243297/?query=90243297 £9 :) This is on my job list for tomorrow now :)

Yorkshirelass, not sure if this helps, but when I was looking for car breakdown, I ended up with a packaged bank account from Nationwide. £10 a month and covers phones, car and travel...not that I travel at the mo!

Debbie-Debt, have you considered a Henry? I have one and LOVE it. Copes with my herd of cats and their fur trails admirably. It was a lot cheaper than a Dyson too.

I'm out of lurkdom, and going to try to join in on this thread regularly, rather than just read it.
    I'm having a NSD today.
    Meals from stores.
    Work - done
    Hoover - done
Put laundry away - avoiding, but must do.
PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
Now to start saving...it's a whole new world!!

    Afternoon all :)
Thanks for the start Ally :)
Another vote for the Dyson here. I have an elderly DC04 which I did buy new in a sale, but so far back in the mists of time I can't remember how many years ago. I have had to replace one of the brushes and the hose during that time, but they didn't cost much, and it still does a really good job.

    List for today:
    See to hens Done
Dog walks x 2 (one done) Both done
Trip to the vets for montly check up / flea treatment (I belong to their 'pet club' - or rather the dog does - so no extra cost beyond the monthly subscription) Done
Small shop in Mr S - bought bits to go with things I already have that need using up Done
Used a voucher to get 40 extra Nectar points for buying the yogurt that was on my list anyway.
Popped into sales unit - nothing sold unfortunately, but swapped a few things round and tidied up
Washing currently hanging limply on the line. I will need to get it in and put it on the airer shortly Oops - still in basket - must hang on airer to dry overnight
HM meals, pasta with bacon, tomato and camembert tonight (to use up some left over camembert) Done, plenty left for tomorrow's lunch :)
Sort out card and birthday present for friend and post off - I have it somewhere just need to find it! Done
Any surveys (a couple for onepoll so far), FPL, postal survey tasks etc Done

And my new chopping board has arrived from Lakeland :j:jHow sad that this is so exciting :o I can now throw away the broken, stained one which has been blighting my kitchen :)Threw out the old one, and used the new one when cooking dinner :T:rotfl:

Hope everyone is having a good day :)

I'm with Start Rescue for car breakdown cover. It's £17-£59 per year. I paid £29 for our 13 year old car and that includes if I breakdown at home. (Link) Read the Ts and Cs before buying. The RAC wanted £92 for the same cover. ;) I think it was DNM who recommended this company to me.

If you've just bought cover elsewhere and want to change your mind remember you usually have 14 days to cancel your original purchase and get a refund under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

Afternoon all :j Thanks Ally for the start (And your helpful list :) )

Lovely to have so many posters on board this week :)

Ds2 is back in school so I'm trying to get on top of things before he comes home tonight.

    My list today
Health & Fitness plans (lose this weight once and for all, no fad diets ever again!)
:starmod: Gym class – aiming for 5 a week (works out to less then 80p/class!) :A
:starmod: Fill water bottle at the gym :A
:starmod: Walk at least 7000 steps to get bounts points :A
    :starmod: Eat for health
:starmod: Drink water through the day
:starmod: Monitor fitness goals etc using my fitbit daily & adjust when needed

    Daily jobs:
:starmod: Wash a load at 30 degrees :A
:starmod: Hang washing on the line if dry/radiators if not
    :starmod: Check banks/update spreadsheet :A
:starmod: Delete junk from emails :A
:starmod: Clean & tidy fridge (make sure we don’t waste anything) :A
:starmod: Use something out of the food use up box
:starmod: Plan today’s meals from stores :A easy today as ds1 is going to a friends (who I know is taking him to KFC) so I'm taking ds2 to get a Mc'ds happy meal. Me & dh will have left over turkey dinner that was meant to be last nights meal but dh fancied chips so I swapped Thursdays meal for Fridays
:starmod: Minimum heating on (set for 30 mins before dh gets up), plenty of blankets & jumpers available 

    Tidy home = Tidy mind
    :starmod: Hoover carpets
:starmod: Clean the kitchen using minimal products
:starmod: Tidy at least one cupboard :A half way through one wardrobe that has wrapping papers, cards, spare gifts etc, will finish it after my cuppa
:starmod: Gather together items for the cs :A 2 candle holders from my bedroom window sill, my wedding dress & a pair of shoes that aren't comfy

I have seen on Fb recently someone donates their wedding dress to a charity which makes tiny dresses for babies who don't make it and they make tiny dresses for the babies to be buried in. I don't know if you would want to do that rather than charity shop it?

And there's got to be a better way of quoting something. I must work out how all the buttons work

Job list pretty much accomplished today.....I did manage to cross off 2 tasks from my 'Annoying Things' List too, so that felt good.
I also like Dysons. Am on my 3rd one, but that's over a very long period of time, pretty much since they first came out. We have the cylinder 'Animal' model with the smaller turbo brush for pet hair. Current cat doesn't shed all that much but previous cat was massive sheddy carpet & it coped well with his fur. The other thing I like about Dysons is that they are easy to take apart & as it's possible to buy most of the parts separately online, most problems can be fixed instead of having to buy a whole new machine just because a smallish gizmo has broken. A couple of years ago, we thought we'd have to buy a new one, but mr f discovered we could buy the broken part online for less than £5. He fitted it easily & it's still going, despite us having had it a long time.
Worth trying to get one 2nd hand. There's a stall on our local market which sells all sorts of spare parts for major brand vacuum cleaners & he's always got a few 2nd-hand Dysons he's reconditioned for sale.
But, of course, at the end of the day......if it sucks up the muck properly & is well made, it'll do the job, regardless of brand. I tried a very cheap one once, years ago, which was an obscure Russian brand. It looked like a small grey tank. It worked well enough for a couple of years. Then it exploded.

  • There were a couple of points I was wondering if I would make it through today - but here I am, Friday night, sitting on my bum - jobs all done for the night with just relaxing to do :j It's gotten quite cold outside so the heating has had to go on tonight...

    So, for today I will:
    [STRIKE]:D Check banking and PAD[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D Mark a set of books (now desperate)[/STRIKE]:j
[STRIKE]:D Use my free time at work wisely[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D Print off my worksheets for next week and get them off for copying[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D Politely nag dh to make plans and lists[/STRIKE] he made a doctor's appointment :D
[STRIKE]:D Get ds to football training[/STRIKE] dh was well enough to take him
    [STRIKE]:D Do 1 thing from the 'annoying' list[/STRIKE] Did 2 :j
    :D Make time for exercise
:D Make time for crochet or knitting
[STRIKE]:D Contact carers charity about the kids[/STRIKE] forms completed
[STRIKE]:D Do a bit of web research for stuff to help dh[/STRIKE] and a booklet for me to look at as well
[STRIKE]:D Minimise heating use (although it is freezing today)[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D Get the kids to join in with some jobs around the house[/STRIKE]
I also made bangers and mash for dinner and banana custard pud. Then sorted out a bag of rubbish, went in the shower and hoovered right through. Feels quite good, feet up for now!

    Hallo everyone. Happy friday night.

DD has cooked my tea. DS hand is healing well. DH is out doing my chickens and I am tucked up in bed relaxing and chilling ready for a very early night. I was ready for it. Have just resisted buying a bread maker on ebay. Phew! Lethal to look at this site. I need to get off this machine and read my library book.

The fridge is still full so this weekend I have menu planned with DD and intend to make:
    Chicken pie
    Fresh bread
Fish on sunday and fish pie then on monday.
Would also like to make church sat night and swim on sunday.
Need to do a load of washing, 2 ironing heaps, change my bed.
    Knit
May chop down autumn raspberries if feeling energetic.

Will be interesting to see how much of this list, if any, I get done.

    See you on saturday all.

    Maria
