I think Costco is top. I always do a price comparison on the website when i get back, prices and weights etc and I save a fortune, plus we get access to products we just dont get over here.

Hi..been reading this thread with interest. I'm thinking of joining Costco even though OH thinks its a sales ploy and I will end up spending more money than we need to and what I buy will end up being wasted. Makro is not an option as I am not self employed. If you become a member does it mean you get access to a special Costco website where you can compare/look up prices? This would be useful in planning a trip to Costco (no impulse buys etc...lol).
Growing old is unavoidable. However, growing up is still optional.

    just to let everyone know...

costco are doing an offer on car tyres currently until 15/02/09 whereby you can by any four michelin tyres and get a discount of 20%

They are normally very cheap anyway and the discount makes them even better value.

you don't have to worry about not needing the tyres fitting immediately....they will let you take them away and return at a later date when you need them

    hope that helps
  • Just bought a Sentry F2300 Waterproof Fire Chest for £29.99 (plus VAT) at the Birmingham branch.

    Its over £85.00 on Amazon:

I think Costco is well worth it, been a member for about 4 years now. I just wish I had more storage so I could buy things in bulk!

Nope, no such thing unfortunately, I suggest taking a trip and getting a guest pass, meaning you can have a look around but can't buy anything. Then you can write down the prices and not be tempted to buy.
  • Hi folks, has anyone bought a laptop from costco, and do they know if the 3 year guarantee applies?
    Thanks

I'm hoping to pop along to Cardiff Costco later on today to see what all of the fuss is about! Thing is, I'm still not entirely sure if I'm able to become a member. I sent them an email asking if my job makes me eligible for membership, but just had a standard application pack in response.

I work as a teacher for a Local Education Authority - not self-employed, salaried. Does anyone know if this makes me eligible?

    Hi Evil Sheep

I am sure that you are able to be a member as LEA staff. Just take a payslip along

Have fun and don't expect change from £100!!:rotfl:

Not sure if anybody has mentioned this but their dog food is v good value. I buy one called Autakry (sp?) for my springer spaniel and it's less than £11 for 15kg and he thrives on it. I've searched it on the internet and it's over £20 anywhere else.

My dog is really fussy, but she always eats Autarky no problem, it is very good value too. We had tried almost every dried complete dog food available and finally tried this one as a last resort, very glad we did! :j

I joined up today wih no problems, and came away with change from £50! Not entirely convinced it's worth the £25 (+VAT) joining fee just yet though. Might have to pay a few more visits to see what other stock they have in.

It seems to be a few pence cheaper than Tecso, Asda etc on most things, so I guess it's all down to whether the pence add up to pounds over the course of a year. Myself & partner are vegan though, so perhaps we're not seeing many of the savings!

For the Ugg-obsessed, they do seem to do their own brand of sheepskin boots for the bargain price of £25. Couldn't see much difference between them and the £130 UGG brand ones, but I s'pose it's the label that's the important part to that certain kind of woman ...

Things like the huge jars of gerkins @ £2.50, 35 cans of pepsi for £3 something, excellent meat (this for me is the reason for going). if you are vegan, can see that a lot pf the food savings might not be for you
