need loan/credit card/overdraft - unemployed - should have money to pay it back by ma

Options
Hi all,

I desperately need a need loan/credit card/overdraft but am currently unemployed, but will have money to pay it back by march. I wouldn't do it if I didn't need too but obviously don't want to go with anyone like a pay day lender.

I am unemployed but who might give me a loan/overdraft/ credit card, or will I just be rejected straight away. I need 1.5k.

I have natwest overdraft already but could stretch that - would they let me as im unemployed?

Nationwide will not let me stretch my overdraft further but could I apply for a loan with them?

So options are natwest / nationwide loan or a credit card or natwest overdraft. Who am I best applying to being unemployed?

I checked my clearscore and it is good (7 positives, 1 negative)

Also not sure if I have put this in the right forum?

Thankyou so much:)

I doubt Natwest would allow you to extend your overdraft further without asking you questions such as what is it for and also since you have no evidence of income going into that account you will likely be declined.

Same goes for Nationwide, what would you put down for employment details and salary? Lie? Don't forget that info will go on the National Hunter database and may come back to haunt you later and could earn you a CIFAS warning for falsifying information.

Can you sell anything of value? Ask your parents/close friend for help? Why do you need the money so desperately if you will have the funds by March - can whatever it is not wait 2 months?

  • Thanks for the reply, Unfortunately it is to do with my health & can't wait until March. I have nothing of that much value.

I would write unemployed on my application. I am also studying online so don't know if this would count me as a student?

Is there any way to apply for anything that could get me the money?

If I apply for the overdraft & say I am unemployed, could I risk the overdraft decreasing if they reject it?

Think about it like this, why would any company be willing to give you £1.5k when you have no means of paying it back?

No, studying online does not class you as a student.

If you apply for the overdraft and say you are unemployed yes it could lead to an account review and your entire overdraft recalled.

If it's to do with your health, is it not something the NHS cover?

Unfortunately I don't think any lender will lend to you. As I said before, try family/friends.

  • i know candyapple, - i just hoped there was an exception.
no unfortunately it is not something the nhs could cover.

okay, so really no other avenues people i could apply to? i have a lloyds account with a little bit of money in, no overdraft, is it worth trying to get a loan with them?

    thanks again

You can try and get a loan with Lloyds or any other bank you may hold an account with as they do give the option of selecting unemployed, however I think your chances will be slim to none as you will most likely fail on the affordability criteria. Other than that all you have left is payday lenders.

Without wishing to pry, what is so urgent that it can't wait until March ? If it's an urgent medical condition that is affecting your health then I'd be very surprised if the NHS won't cover it.

Unfortunately, with no source of income, no responsible lender is going to give you a loan or credit card. Your only realistic option is either friends/family, or else sell (possibly pawn ??) some possessions.
  • are payday lenders very bad or are there any who have more reasonable rates like banks?

All payday lenders are bad. Almost by definition they lend to "high-risk" people who other banks won't touch, so they have astronomical interest rates to cover their risks. It also reflects very badly on your credit history, making it harder to get credit in the future.
  • hi ebe - it is to change my living situation as it is currently affecting my mental health and i need to change situation asap
  • You could try a local credit union if you have one? Some do require you to have been a member for a few months with regular savings however not all do. They do carry out credit checks but there is a definite element of a person making the final call, not just a computer saying no. You would have to make some regular repayments though.
