By what you've posted, you seem to be on the ball with everything, penny . Like you, we've had a tax bill, car expenses and birthdays too. Luckily, most of our expenses have been paid.
Good news on the freebies, I love a freebie!!!!
Our diaries do seem very similar at the moment, are you sure we are not the same person :rotfl:.0 -
Maybe we are twins.
I'm already on yougov, otherwise I would have signed up. I've only been on it for 4 months and am halfway to a payout.0 -
Afternoon all.
Just had a couple of hours peace and quiet, sat in my bedroom catching up on war and peace and Dickensian, DH gets to go out twice a week doing his sports, so I said that I wanted some me time, no interuptions to catch up on tv programmes without hearing muuum every two minutes.
We have had a spend free weekend, DD has been out on her pony, played monopoly with DS, watched a couple of good films with DH, cooked and chilled out, also done some housework and some pottering about outside, it's actually been really nice not having to go anywhere or rush around.
Have done several loads of washing today and we had sunshine so managed to peg two loads out, although they hadn't dried full they were just slightly damp and only needed a quick blast in the tumble.
Tea tonight is roast chicken, rst spuds, parsnips, mashed carrot and swede and cabbage, yum yum, followed by a stewed apple sponge and custard. going to make a pasta bake from left over chicken for tomorrow nights tea, trying really hard to use stuff up.
I have done a couple of surveys and listed 3 items on ebay, also cleared out DD drawers as its her birthday next week and she wants a shopping spree to primani, so thought I better make some room, found a couple of bits worth listing, but need to wash and photograph them, a couple of bits for charity and the rest for the bin, once her t shirts/leggings get past there best she tends to wear them for mucking out so end up sained and full of holes, but she does get plenty of wear out of her clothes.
Back to work tomorrow, final week before half term, thank goodness, the thing I love about feb half term is that it means we have done half a school year and are therefore on the downhill slope to the summer hols :j.
Hope everyone is ok.x.0 -
Sounds like a productive weekend, Penny.
I must admit, I do love that fresh smell you get when clothes are dried on the line, particularly the bedding. We don't have a tumble drier so we either line dry or use an airer.
DS doesn't break up for half term until the week after next. His school is unusual in that way, but it does mean that we can take advantage of everything being quiet!!!
Penny I need your help. Our Church is doing an Easter cake competition and I need to bake and decorate a fruit cake. I've never decorated a cake before and whilst I'm not expecting to win, I'm looking forward to setting myself a personal challenge. The cakes need to be kept for a couple of weeks, so they've said no sponge or cream. Can you point in the right direction for a fruit cake recipe?0 -

Hi, ooh cakes, if you fancy being brave a simnel cake is a good cake for Easter and the decoration is just marzipan , other than that I have a recipe for a mary berry fruit cake which is good, another one I make is using a jar of mincemeat instead of faffing with separate dried fruit and mixpeel, tink its called a February cake, its lovely and moist and dead easy to make. I will see if I can find the recipe.0 -
February Cake.
225g (8 oz) self-raising flour, sifted .
140g (5 oz) butter, softened .
140g (5 oz) light or dark soft brown sugar .
85g (3 oz) sultanas.
450g (1 lb) mincemeat.
2 eggs, beaten.
Method
Prep:10min › Cook:2hr › Ready in:2hr10min- Preheat oven to 160 C / gas mark 3, grease and line a 20cm (8 in) round tin.
- Put all ingredients into a bowl and mix thoroughly.
- Turn into prepared tin, bake for 1 and 3/4 hours. (Check with skewer/cocktail stick to ensure it comes away clean). Leave in tin for about 15 minutes then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
