Morning
Pouring down here again. Didnt sleep well last night. LW thats bad news, I was thinking it would soon be over and done with.
Our rescue dog desperately needs his claws cutting. We have tried to desensitise him to the clippers but he is terrified. We took him to the vet a while ago who wasnt able to do it. She suggested muzzle training him then she would have another go. No surprise that he is also terrified of the muzzle and its slow going getting him used to it.
We were discussing this before we went to sleep which is why I think I slept badly. I am really bothered about it, I know its stupid but I cant face the thought of the vet wrestling with him again and getting nowhere. DH suggested getting advice from another vet but this will be down to me.
Right, better move myself and get ready for work! Hospital this afternoon with DS so not much flying will get done here.0 -
YorkshireLass - where do you walk your dog? If its usually on footpaths etc try adding in some roads - it works like filing nails
. It may be too late this time but it might help in future. Also are there specific claws that need clipping or is it all of them? If just a few you may be able to do them one at a time - often a dog will stay still to let you do one, then you can make lots of fuss, give them a treat and let them go. And leave it a while before you attempt the next one. Not scientific, but based on trying to deal with cat and dog claws without traumatising the poor things.

Yorkshirelass another thought is if your rescue dog is really not going to co-operate with just one claw at a time..maybe asking the vet to do them under sedation. It won't be for long so puppy won't be out too long and shouldn't have any lasting effects from the sedation like drowsiness when at home. That's another thought for you xxxMortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

I'm glad someone else does this... my boss never seems to appreciate it when he's asks for progress reports and I tell him stuff is in my head
The problem I find is that once it's all straight in my head and I know what the solution is, I find it difficult to motivate myself to write it down. After all, I've solve it... time to move on to the next thing!0
