Contactless payments?

I don't get why people are so concerned about the safety aspect of contactless.
Presumably the bank is 100% liable for any fraudulent transactions if it is misused, whereas that's not the case if someone had used your pin. I personally wouldn't give a hoot if someone used mines fraudulently, unless I was negligent then I'd be reimbursed so it's no skin off my nose. We’ve had to remove your signature. If I used contactless payments, I'd be over drawn in no time, can't beat cash in my opinion0

Excellent point Dan, I lived the 'lift what I can from atm' for years.
With contactless I've found I'm only spending what I need/petrol/maybe a sandwich/ciggies.
I no longer 'lift' 10 or £20...What I spend via contactless is immediately debited from current account.(with a small safety net 250 overdraft.
Any payment method does take some self control and budgeting. though I don't have 'loads of change 'since using contactless.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -

Does anyone actually care whether or not the card needs to touch the terminal?0
-
No they don,t, see post #23.
If they do the why do Visa and the banks tell you to TOUCH the reader? See post #23 again.
I have no intention of using my payments in this way.
It really is quite simple, contactless means not to touch, ie. no contact.
Touch means to make contact, i.e. not contactless.
Ergo if some cards won't work until you make contact they cannot be contactless.
Also if you have to get so close for "contactless" payment, (around 2 centimetres), why not go that extra mile and touch the reader, that way payment is guaranteed, (unless a faulty card or reader), as instructed by Visa and the banks, post #23 again.
My point was, and still is, that to call them contactless payments is an oxymoron and wrong, as confirmed by the banks and Visa instructions on how to use them, "Touch the reader with your contactless card" I mean come on, the statement itself is an oxymoron!
Anyway enough, you go your merry little ways, your the type that calls a PIN, a Pin Number, a VIN a Vin number, a PAC a Pac code etc, etc, it is just PIN, VIN, PAC. I'm out.
.
All do work without touching. Where have you used one that doesn't work unless you touch? I haven't found out and am not surprised considering the technical aspect of it.

Well you sure showed us.
There is a difference between the card's capability and the quality of the card reader. As I think has become apparent through this thread, Visa's instructions are geared towards the general public and not just the people who understand basic concepts regarding technology, so as with most things these days the instructions are written at idiot-level. Evidently not completely foolproof though.
The only time mine hasn't worked is when I forgot to activate my card with chip and pin for my first transaction - doh!
P.S. "PIN number" really annoys me and I pull people up on it - you're not the only pedant in the room.0
