Contactless is great, and I use it wherever I can - its quicker than cash as you don't have to get money ready, wait for the cashier to count out change or have to put that change away. I'm surprised shops aren't pushing it harder - after all they pay a reduced handling fee for contactless versus PIN verified transactions (e.g. Aldi staff will still tell me to enter my card and key in my PIN, when I've already paid via contactless before they've completed the sentence!).

Me too. Can't wait until I get my Apple Watch to make it even easier. I hope I can resist the urge to buy one until the next version of the watch comes out.

Contactless is more secure in my eyes then chip and pin or cash. The bank can't argue you've been careless with a pin so lost card and fraudulent use is easier to claim back.

I was going to wait until Christmas (and I wish I had have done, John Lewis discounted the Watch in December!) but ended up relenting back in September.

If you can I really would wait until version two is released; the Watch is fine itself *but* it definitely needs refining.

It just feels weird when you leave your wallet at home, go to your nearest Co-Op, and then pay for something you wear on your wrist!

Some people believe contactless is a risk. However, most banks are issuing contactless cards by default these days. If you have a contactless card, you are exposed to any risks by simply having it, there are no additional risks from using the contactless feature.

Personally I do not believe there are any significant risks from having a contactless card but the point I am trying to make here is, if your card has contactless features, then you are not mitigating any risks by only using it as a Chip and PIN card.

In comparison to cash, contactless is about the same: You lose 20 quid, someone finds it and they can spend it. You lose your contactless card, someone finds it and they can use it until it's reported as lost or stolen.

In theory, after a number of contactless transactions the PIN will be required by the terminal. However I have not seen anything of the sort with my TSB debit card nor with my MBNA credit card over 6 months.

I use my TSB Classic Plus contactless debit card to get the cashback but my personal security level is permanently set at "paranoid".

"Contactless cards" is a bit of an oxymoron! You have to make contact, from VISA, if you have to "touch your contactless card against the symbol.........", you are making contact, so not contactless, should be called touch and pay.

You don't need to make a physical contact between your card and the reader. Hence the term contactless.

Read my post above yours, instructions form Visa, plus I have seen similar signs near these terminals, "touch here to pay by contactless".

Ergo not contactless hence the term,"touch here".

It doesn't matter what the pictures say. You don't need to make a physical contact between your card and the reader. You don't even have to take your card out of your wallet / purse if you don't want to.

    Hence the term contactless.
