Day 51/366 A NSD huzzah! All the lonely sprouty potatoes have gone into a layered vegetable bake tonight and a chum has passed over some books which I'll give to the CS when I've read them. Long day at work so last thing I feel like is shopping! Many congrats Lynplatinium!

It will be Easter in a few weeks, and the shops are full of Easter eggs. This year will be the first year that I am not buying into the hype.

Instead of overpriced egg shaped chocolate creations packed in loads of cardboard and plastic, I am treating us all to a couple of bars of good quality chocolate as part of our celebration of the Spring season. I will not be going mad on hot cross buns (just a glorified tea cake), and there is already a lovely pork loin joint and a couple of chickens in the freezer in case we get family visiting from away. No mad Bank Holiday shopping in the Land of Nargle this year.

I went to Mr M yesterday and came back with a couple of chocolate oranges. I was supposed to hide them but DS came to help unpack (He never does that) and found them.

"Good!" he said, "you have not bought Easter eggs. Did you know you pay more for inferior chocolate?"

I think he is getting quite frugal. I have bought a big bag of mini eggs because he does like those.

[BNargleblast][/B] I do buy hot cross buns as soon as they come in the shops. I love them. They do have things in them that tea cakes don't have. I do like M&S ones but I am not paying £1.50 when nearly everywhere else they are 2 pkts for £1.

I've been getting hot cross buns YS at 39p a packet from Sainsb and freezing not bad for 6. I've also bought the Choc Orange at £1 we must all be sinking from the same hymn sheet.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
  • Ahoy there

Thanks for the congrats but I have to say that Allora is such a sweet and placid little thing. The name comes from Lord of the Rings Elves 'Allora is a princess from the Lost Tribe of the Forest Elves. They are pure and very gentle in nature as opposed to the other Forest Elves whom are the opposite, dark and volatile.'

it is all very lovely but the car park has cost £24 so far and it is £40 petrol as well!!! Thank goodness that I had been on here and saving up!! But I will need to replace monies spent now!!!

Re Easter Eggs - me and the kids used to have loads of fun from a large pack of foil covered eggs which I used to hide everywhere. The kids and their mates used to go a - hunting them using the dog as a detection device!!!

  • I have been thinking that ever since you came on here HOWMUCH we seem to have a lot in common. Actually I bought chocolate oranges last Easter at £1 there is more chocolate in them they are solid.

I like Sainsb hot cross buns too especially the wholemeal ones but it is a bit of a trek there Mr M is only at the top of the next street. I don't have a car have never been able to afford one.

Day 52/366 As I'm working this weekend I popped into the sm on the way home from work as it's on my route. Normally I go to Tescos because it's closer but Sainsburys was more convenient. I know which lines are cheaper in Sainsburys so took the opportunity to stock up on those, drop off my plastics recycling and fill the freezer with lots of reduced bread, crumpets etc. Every Sunday we always have a "special" breakfast rather than our usual cereal. This might be croissants, crumpets etc. We started the tradition after our last French holiday in 1997 and have continued it ever since. Now have several weeks worth of stuff suitable for this little treat stashed away in the freezer:D Finally got my act together and put in an application for a Co-op loyalty card. Have been meaning to do it for ages as have been dropping into the newish local one more and more frequently to take advantage of their good reductions [again on the way from home or if walking past] Took me all of two mins. Why have I not got on with it sooner I ask myself:o Arilx

Anybody who is a heavy user of olive oil should probably be prepared to open their wallets now and stock up. I read in the paper the other day that prices are expected to rise by up to 20% in the near future because of the failure of the Italian olive harvest last year.

Day 53/366 A NSD. I've brought home some remnants of leftover net from a new set of curtains my Mum has recently bought. I am hoping that I can make some bags for the sm to put my loose veg and fruit in as another measure for trying to reduce my use of plastic bags.
