Ahoy there shipmates, may I come aboard? I lurked a bit last year, but will make the commitment this year. We are in the middle of a 5 year house refurbish and need to save hard to buy the kitchen units now (my new cooker went in the week before xmas, no gas yet, but have managed on a camping gas stove and baby belling with 4 adults for a couple of years!) I would love to have a completed kitchen by next xmas, so by only purchasing the necesarries for the coming year I think we can do it.Now Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j0

If I may be so bold, there are a lot of people already apologising for spending.....
This was not the idea of the thread last year, nor do I believe is the idea this year. Slowdown I believe meant they were " not buying it" as in not buying into the idea of needing this or that to make your life better. I think the consensus last year was this meant unnecessary sepending on carp we neither want or need, just sucked into buying by advertising and marketing.
So to all who have planned spends/ experiences etc. enjoy them! It's kind of the point really. If you are struggling more with cash, maybe not buying it is more literal. As far as I recall all comers were more than welcome last year and hope this will be the case this year.
If not, I shall be the first to walk the plank!...:rotfl:

I always looked at it as 'not buying into it'
As in, not buying for the sake of fashion, adverts dictating etc etc
looking at what you already have and seeing if it really needs to be 'updated'
I mean I would like a nice 60 inch tv as it would fill a gap on the wall, but there is sod all wrong with my 37 inch, so do I really need to buy a new one?

I really have only lurked last year but I think I've been good. So if you'll have me I'll be joining again this year with a vengeance.
I'm so proud of myself today however. My tumble dryer stopped working, well it wouldn't get hot. Looked on the Internet , took the back off pressed the re set button and boom all working nicely. Saved me a bomb in repairs or a new TD which I would never have found the cash for. I'm now sitting here with a swollen head.
Happy frugal new year everyone.0 -

That's fab, well done you!
I sold my car last week and suggested that we might get a new washing machine as ours leaks and we have to put a towel in front of it. My DS came down and put some washing on and went to press the on button and pushed all the button panel into the machine. OH got his trusty tool kit , took the top off and fixed the button panel. Bang went my idea of a new washing machine:(Now Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j0 -
I've been having an internal debate with myself over a mobile phone...as well as fending off comments from friends and family
My mobile is 3 years old, it's a smart phone, battered & scratched but still works until I try to take a photo when it promptly switches itself off!
Everyone's told me it's time I upgrade my phone, and I'm not going to lie, I've looked at the shiny new ones, have been tempted to buy but then I keep thinking, it still works, someone else will take the photo if I don't. I only spend £10 a month on it and new phone will be £75+
So for now I'm sticking with it and resisting temptation!0 -
I would like to join in too please. Looking back at finances over the last 12 months and there has been so many unnecessary purchases so I want to spend the next few months only buying what is needed rather than wanted.2016 Grocery Challenge January: £296.20/£300 February: £262.05/£3000

Well as the first day of the NBI bandwagon, I've the weekly shop to get. Will admit that I did get a rather nice pad for writing shopping lists on, I usually take ones from hotels we stay in! Lol
Planning on doing quite a conservative food shop this month, OH is moving jobs this month and I finished work last month so money will be very tight! Will do out a meal plan for the first time in a long time!094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

I don't take photos, or use my online data it more for text messages and emergency calls but I too am fending off comments about being in the stone age. Now the battery is not keeping its charge for long and I have started to consider changing but this one is sim only cost £7 pm including calls and texts so I am trying to resist !!0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

Will be with you lot again this year, but this time I feel much more focused and have seen a vast improvement in myself and how I view things and items in my home, so I know it can continue to be done. I don't even like buying things anymore, I'm appreciating the space and the money in my bank more and the only things I've bought so far since Christmas have been essential food items for the weekly shop.
Hope everyone has a very lovely, happy, positive new year!0
