    yorpington Congratulation on your MA.

I don't think it ought to be possible for you to get in a bus lane by mistake. I would have disputed it.
  • Ach I probably should have, Maggie, but I've just fought (and won!) a long battle with Vodafleece and I've run out of energy :o
  • Ahoy there me hearties, what an afternoon I have had mastering the stormy seas aboard the great ship NBI! :D

Sorry for the theatrical expression, but I’ve made the first actual step in breaking through the consumer barrier in the world of toiletries and cleaning products. My washing up liquid has been getting lower and I knew I had to face trying something non-branded that might be rubbish or might just be brilliant.

Then I had a brainwave, picked up my periscope and scouted out some reviews on the horizon…. Basically searched the web… to find a supermarket own brand that comes out equal to or better than the top named brand in customer surveys/ testing. :T

Not only that, but I have also looked into what makes a good shampoo good. This weekend I will be looking out for ones with an ingredient called panthenol, which is apparently good for fine hair.
The course has been set for anti-consumerville!

(sorry for the OTT ship talk, I am just so chuffed with myself and I think hubby might give a “that’s good” before concern starts to grow about my new found obsession with washing up liquid. Hopefully its mostly out of my system.)

Day 46/366 Another NSD. My Mum's given me a book of Weight watcher recipes and some magazines. Shall look to see if any of the recipes take my fancy.

  • Just a quickie today, wasn't going to post, but am pleased as I picked up my freebie boxof chocs from S's, as well as freebie bottle of body lotion from M's (via MOC + reduced price instore). Managed to do both without going out of my way (I used to have a bad habit of travelling quite far to go to a SM just to get a freebie, spending more on the petrol that the item would have cost!

Also while at S's picked up reduced trousers for DS - he is continually growing out of them - in Tu 25% off sale and at M's a couple of bottles of v v v cheap (< half price) favourite body lotion which I use as a facial moisturiser (it works out tons cheaper than actual moisturiser, and is really good for my sensitive skin). SO although have shopped, it has all been needed items (DS has been desperate for decent length trousers for ages!), for free or greatly reduced, so am quite pleased!

Happytravelling Ald! washing up liquid is endorsed by Good Housekeeping. I think it is better than what goes on the top of the Christmas tree.

There washing powder is identical to Ar!el. My DS had eczema and he is fine with it. I can't say that about many washing powders.
  • Thanks nursemaggie, that is exactly where its from. The one with the silver bottle, even has a little which? sticker on it.

Ar1el is exactly what I use for my clothes, thanks for the tip... My niece has excema so I'm sure my sis will be chuffed to know too. :)

  • Ahoy there!

Sailing on fair seas today - an NSD + made myself do a reclaim today. As some of you may recall, I went to Cornwall and was v delayed getting home. OK so the delay was due to a tree falling on the train in front (felt v sorry for train driver). But have read that I might be entitled to 50% ish compensation as it could be argued that the maintenance of the trees at side of track. I may not succeed but the form was easy to find from the Travel part of this site and took 10 mins and was free post - so we shall see if I succeed - them as dont try dont get ;)

yorpington congrats on MA and cheaper day in London
Nurse Maggie - ta 4 info re washing powder - I may well give it a try - for those that are near a L!dil their own washing up liquid is v good - you dont need a lot and it lasts well.

Aharrr Happy Travilin - nothin like joining the pirate crew that refuse to be conned by the great oil tankers of consumerism! yum allowed such language on board this ship! :rotfl:

  • I have 'bought it' today...

I've bought myself a new Panasonic breadmaker, which I managed to get for under £85 by making a 'best offer' on eBa!. I've wanted one for a while so am very pleased and can't wait for it to be delivered!

I used to have a cheapy supermarket budget brand breadmaker, which I got virtually brand new from Freecycle, that I used on and off for a couple of years before sending it off to the chazzer. The bread it made was ok but nothing special. I've read lots of reviews and it seems that not all breadmakers are the same and the Panasonic is highly recommended so I'm excited to give it a try!

Apart from the breadmaker, half-term spends haven't been too bad. Had a free day out with my son and eldest nephew today at the park as it was sunny and dry all day. Went to The Manchester Museum yesterday and had dinner out for a grand total of about £15 (for myself and son). Dinner was a treat for him, promised for him getting a good report card this half-term and I would rather take him out to eat as a treat than buy him something to add to the clutter in his bedroom!

We went to the cinema on Tuesday, which cost us nothing as my dad paid, so the kids have done plenty this week. We are going to Bury transport museum tomorrow. My week off work has flown by, I don't want to go back in next week...

Hope everyone else has had a lovely week.
Lyn, good luck with your travel compo.
With regards to L!dl's WUL, I personally don't rate it. I'm using up a bottle at the moment but will be trying Aston!sh afterwards as it's very reasonably priced and labelled vegan.
    Never say never
  • I have the Aldi WUL and its very good, and I have been a 'fairy'woman for years I thought I'd give the other one a try and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Food shop this morning ,only the second one this month ,mostly fruit and veg and a couple of odds and ends that I have run out of.So hopefully it will be fairly low in spends :):):) I still have over £45 in my food monthly budget purse and I know I won't spend that much.Only 10 days until the end of the month as well :):):)
    Onwards and upwards chums
