  • Afternoon fellow matelots.
An NBI day here too. We dont buy into the whole Valentine thing but we did make each other funny cards and treated ourselves to breakfast in bed with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon that was YS'd to 50p just after Christmas and has been lurking in the freezer ever since. It was delicious.
Its been cold but sunny here and we've had the window's open to bring some lovely fresh air in as its free and better for you than those plug-in thingies. Amazing how a bit of sunshine raises the spirits and makes you feel very positive.
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend and is ready to set sail on another cruise through the sometimes choppy waters of the working week. I will be keeping a firm hand on the purse strings as my expenses for the week are already set aside and my lunches are all stashed away in the fridge and freezer. DOH's gets a subsidised late breakfast/early lunch as he starts work at 3am so he's sorted for the week as well.
    Monday here we come .

Another no spend weekend. Had a coffee morning yesterday but bought the tickets about 6 weeks ago. Didn't venture out today as we had snow and it is very slippery underfoot. For valentine's day we usually have a steak but teeth ;)are not so willing and sharp these days so took the last 2 steaks lurking in the bottom of the freezer and turned them into a hotpot with sliced potatoes and loads of veg that we grew ourselves. Yummy!! Got engaged 42 years ago tomorrow so we are off out for afternoon tea using a voucher I got at Christmas. Hopefully another NSD.:j

Day 43/366 I ignored all the Valentine's Day hype and instead gave my husband and son a bar of choccie each from the stash of 38p luxury ones I bought reduced after Christmas as they're good date wise until June. The teenogre has done a bungee jump today which was our Christmas present to him- the voucher was paid for entirely with survey points. NSD

Well done to all who are NBI for Valentine's! No Valentine's spends for me this weekend as I'm (happily) single :)

My son and I did go to Thomas Land at Drayton Manor as a belated birthday trip for my nephew today, along with my sis, bro in law and older nephew. Little nephew (he turned 2 last month) is Thomas mad and he loved the day out. Spent Under £15, almost £10 off that was for tolls so not bad really (entrance tickets were prepaid for).

Got a week of spends coming up though, as it's half-term. We're planning a trip to the cinema, swimming and a museum. We're also going to my son's favourite all-you-can-eat buffet place as a treat for getting a brilliant report card for this half-term. We'll go for the lunch menu to make it more affordable as it's half the price :D
    Never say never
  • We don't usually bother with Valentine's Day either. We both made cards using recycled material from around the house and treated ourselves to a coffee and shared a scone.

We stopped off at sainsbobs on the way home and both agreed that the twenty pounds they were asking for a bunch of red roses was a purchase that we would give a miss. After all twenty pounds can buy a lot of groceries!

When we got home I did something that I have never done before I repaired some of our carrier bags that have developed rips and tears . I was pretty pleased as you can't see where I repaired them. I have got a few fabric and canvas bags but I find them a bit floppy when I'm packing in the shop.

Seraph I enjoyed reading your story it was very inspiring.
Wildthing I'm glad you are feeling a little brighter.
    Yorpington welcome to you .

    Have a good week everyone.

  • NBI weekend for me as well in fact apart from going to DDs last night for dinner I didn't set foot across the doorstep at all far too cold and I'd rather be in the warm:) I read all Saturday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed myself with a large pot of coffee and a good book,my idea of heaven.Won't be spending today either as I am grandson sitting and this morning just have to take the boys to the dentists for their regular check-up then back to their house for lunch and probably snuggle down on the sofa with the boys and watch a film.Middle boy Henry makes a darned good cuppa as well :):):)The joys of being a Granny are many :):):) Have a good day chums what ever you are doing

Back from a few days away meeting up with lots of family. Eaten and drunk too much but a good time including visit to London and Winchester. Low spends for groceries last week but more on travel and eating out. A frugal week ahead.

  • Morning shipmates

I'm up and dressed, already did some household stuff and will now sit down, have breakfast, pay some bills and try to figure out if one of the yarns in my stash might work for a project. Already had a look into my fabric stash to see if I have all I need to make a pouch for a friend as part of her bday present (other part will be handcream) and found a red and a blue fabric with same pattern, a matching zipper and felt for the lining all left over from a massive shop last summer.

Costume party on Saturday was okish, was nice to spend time with my friends and it was certainly lovely to dress up 1950ies style (even managed a perfect winged eyeliner!) but there were a lot of weiredos, trying to flirt with us.... We left at one and had a burger on the way home and I was in bed at three.
Felt rubbish all day yesterday, kind of hungover although I didn't had any alcohol at the party (my friends don't drink when they drive) and had a very lazy day with lay in, naps and a lot of hanging-around.

Mav, really like the idea with the make do swimming suit. I always have problems finding a suitable one as I have big boobs and am generelly rather a whale than a pixie...

Jackie, enjoy grandson-sitting :-) I thought of you on Friday when I was emailing with a customer who sent her new address as she had moved from Margate to Ramsgate or other way round

tatabubbly, some peoples silly spendings are other peoples bargains I would say... :-) Well done on getting it so much cheaper, I'm sure with a baby on the way you have better use for the 140£ you saved!

Have a nice day everyone, I'm off into town with a shopping list that reads handcream for friend, deodorant and foundation for myself, 4 balls of yarn for charity knitting.

  • Back at Dds house with the boys fed lunch and just trying to decide what film to watch.Blooming chilly outside .

My friend phoned me this morning to say she had secured our cottage for the third week in April in Staffordshire just outside Leek.right next door to a country pub as well :):)So we will be touring the surrounding area for a week from the 15th April.Hopefully the weather will have improved by then.Place looks nice though and its 4 star so should be comfortable.

So lots of NSDs between now and then :):):)
    Keep well wrapped up chums

  • Hi again all, and thanks for the welcome :hello:

Hope everyone is staying warm - it's barking out there!

Worked this morning, then home to make lunch. Mixed the scraps from yesterday's chicken with some pasta and a chopped red pepper that was looking rather sorry for itself. Lovely!

Used up a handcream and replaced it with one from my stash. Not mad keen on the smell, but it needs using. Toiletries (and books) are my danger zones for impulse spending so since Christmas 2015 I've been keeping a list of everything I'm using up, and any purchases. Plan to see a big reduction in my stash by Christmas 2016.

Got a refund I've been waiting for from Vodafleece :T I got them to cancel my account early, without a fee, as they were consistently in breach of my contract, but they were unsurprisingly reluctant to send back the money they owed me. All done now and that's £100 back in my pocket. Never again! DH is still with them and they keep billing him incorrectly  He gets a considerable discount through his work otherwise he'd be shot of them too.

NSD unless there's a wild change of plans between now and bedtime :rotfl:
