Hello, any space left for a newbie?
I'll give you a bit of a background: I am a newly convert to MSE (6month-ish), I'm about to move out with DD (my very long marriage has come to an end).
I have been saving and arming myself for the past 2years. So it's all good. But, the first thing I let go was myself. Nothing new for me, no clothes, no make up, no perfume, more importantly, no time.
So I am hoping that by joining you I'll have a constant reminder to look after myself as well.car finance £1072/£8285 by sept 2018

You're very welcome, *Geandad's offspring":)
Here's to new beginnings:)0 -
Wecome Grandad's Offspring, you will find lots of support and advice (if required) here as well as a happy environment:D
Good luck for your new life with DD.
I am sure that you have read LL's hints and tips in posts 21 and 22, just take baby steps if it suits your life better than going whizz bang into some self improvement programme, start one thing and when it becomes habit after a few days or so add something new in and so on. I have always looked after my skin, but when tired or stressed have not bothered so much with makeup. Now even on a bad day I pencil in my brows a little, add a light slick of mascara and try to remember the perfume:o Oh and most important, stand or sit tall, don't slump, it really does make such a difference to how I look and feel.:)The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Thank you for the warm welcome
I have no goals as such, I just need to remember to be kind to myself and give me some time, really!
I am trying to get a house, finish a course, get a promotion, become financially savvy and independent, manage the household, look after DD etc.
This year we are not going to have a holiday. We decided to explore the new town we are moving to in our free time, on our push bikes.
I could say I need to lose about a stone. Not going to make it a goal though, but I will change the way we eat.
My skin, however, is wrecked. Seriously bad skin. Congested, dull, not luminous at all, jowly and frowny.
Perhaps I should make a save my skin plan?!
Any suggestions very welcomed!car finance £1072/£8285 by sept 2018

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I had a lovely day. Some of it was with DH and family and some time for me getting my hair done and a bit of browsing. Plus the sun shone!:DOh and most important, stand or sit tall, don't slump, it really does make such a difference to how I look and feel.:)
That's great advice and every time I read it I sit up straight!!:rotfl:Grandad's_Offspring wrote: »Any suggestions very welcomed!
Welcome GO (if you don't mind;)) I'm sure you'll find the thread friendly and helpful and good luck with your new life.
If you've been on mse for a while you must have read the Old Style boards. I find that similar tips for saving money on food shopping work just as well for healthy eating. When it's just you and your DD to please you'll be able to do a meal plan, buy only what you need and buy seasonally for plenty of fruit and veg. Getting around by bike will help on the health and fitness too.
Do you need to dress up for work? There's a saying 'dress for the job you want not the job you have' so that might apply to you and your promotion. In any event it improves confidence no end if we look the part.
I'm not sure just how tight money might be but Groupon can be good for trying out salons for facials or massage or hair or any treatment really especially as you'll need to find your way around your new town.
The ironing pile is still waiting:(.0 -
Hello lovely ladies.........
What a gorgeous day, I think Spring has finally sprung.
Yesterday DS2 and I lit the chimenea. I burned all my mums and my husband's hospital, medical and nursing home paperwork. It was wonderful to see it all go up in flames. Very Cathartic and symbolic. Much more of a "statement" than mere shredding.
The Kondoing has gone really well. I even managed to finally let go of my husband's throws, cushions etc that we used at the nursing home. They just had so many painful associations and bad memories attached to them. I feel truly liberated that I have now finally been able to say goodbye and good riddance to anything related to the nursing home days.
Tonight I am going to sit and write my to do list for the next few weeks, starting with booking a massage. My back is killing me after all that humping boxes and heavy black bin liners around. Still it's done - just a bit of "Komono" left now. It shouldnt take too long niw.
So this weeks tasks, get a massage, sort out my passport, and then set up some appointments for dentist, chiropodist, opticians over the next few weeks.
I need to buy pashminas, fascinators or hats, new undies and maybe a few holiday items for Barcelona.
Grandads Offspring. Welcome to the thread. Just take it one stage at a time. Perfume, posture, healthy eating - a bit of daily fabbing, paying extra attention to your skin.
Don't worry - whilst our skin can suffer through stress and neglect the good news is it usually responds very well to some TLC.
This time of year is a good time to start paying serious attention to,skin care. Winter takes its toll. Cold winds and central heating do a lot of damage.
Start with a good skincare routine, cleansing and moisturising. A facial would be a good idea. Salon if you can afford it but DIY facials can be just as good.
Is your skin "just" congested or does it also feel dry and tight. Mineis both at the moment so I'm going to have to put in some serious work.
I shall start tomorrow with a steam cleanse, followed by a clay mask. I shall do this twice the first week. Then the week after I shall do a course of gentle skin peels for two weeks.
My skin is dry sore and itchy so I have ordered some dermalogica ultra calming products. Not cheap but my skin will be grateful.
I'm afraid I have lots of unsuitable hardly used creams, Lacura, Elizabeth Arden, Clinique. I won't waste them I'll just use them up on my knees, feet, elbows.
Yesterday I slathered on some bio oil on my legs and arms after my bath. Made a big difference to my poor thirsty skin.
Speaking of thirsty......one of the best things we can do is drink lots of water. It flushes out our systems and plumps up the skin and improves luminosity.
In the meantime, till all this works.......well that's what blusher and skin brighteners like Clarins beauty flash are for.;)0 -
Ps. Long term - evening primrose oil works wonders but it does take three or four months to notice a difference.
If trying to lose weight don't go overboard on cutting out fats. Skin needs oils and fats, so be sure to eat good healthy olive oils, flaxseeds, oily fish such as salmon, mackerel or sardines.0
