this has been a common issue on and off since W7 - for some reason, you have to faff about in the Control Panel > Sound > Properties to get the headphones working properly. Can't give an exact section you need to change, as I've found different settings seem to work randomly on different machines. I've had around 15 laptops through with these symptoms, if you persevere with the default sound device and it's settings, you usually get there in the end.....
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I've just been playing around with it and still no solution.

In fact I have now made it worse as the laptop speakers which previously worked perfectly now give static/interference.

Does anyone else have any suggestions before I pay someone to look at it? :(

firstly, put the speakers back to the default audio device in control panel > sound, then try the properties of the speakers (there is a test button in there to, well, test any changes you've made).

p.s. when the Sound window is open, plug the headphones in and make sure they register as being connected :)

What does the jack connector on the headphones you've tried look like?

Does it have three black rings like this:

Or does it have two black rings like this:

Or does it not work with either?

Download the Windows 10 (64bit) audio package here...

    https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/2tl701af.exe

...and install the complete software package, not just the driver.

From your description it sounds like you have the default Microsoft driver installed and, as with many branded laptops over recent years, it doesn't contain the necessary software to properly detect a device being plugged into the front HD headphone socket.

What is BIOS? Sorry if that is a dense question. I can't find any reference to BIOS on that link.

    Check your download folder.

    It's a direct download.

Yes, when I plug the headphones in the speakers are muted.

    The model name is 20351.

Are you sure it's a Z50-70 and not a G50-70 as based on that model number it should be a G50-70 ?
