Headphones don't work with Lenovo laptop

Hello All
I have a year-old Lenovo Z50-70 laptop.
I've never used headphones with it before but now I need to, and it doesn't work!
I've tried a pair of headphones and also my smartphone earphones. Neither work.
Neither of the above are recognised under Device Manager.
All drivers are up to date and all Windows 10 updates have been done too.
Without headphones the speakers on the laptop work fine.
Please can anyone help on this?
Many thanks
M

Have you tried any other head/ ear phones in the socket ??0

Plain old plug in headphones and the like aren't seen by device manager. Sometimes there will be a popup message saying something got plugged into an audio port.
Make sure you are plugging into the correct port - there may be a mic port as well. Does the speaker sound go off when you plug them in? Are you sure the volume is turned up.
Sorry to sound like I'm teaching you to suck eggs but I think user error is more likely than the socket not working.

Quick search threw this up in a post. It seems your port is combined headphone/mic but ime these ports do work ok with a normal stereo plug.Re: Y50 Headphone Jack Not Working

Had the same problem, my laptop registered that something had been connected, but there was no sound. I tried everything I could find on different forums, spent over an hour trying to fix it.
Turned out all I had to do was to go to the Realtek HD Audio Manager, and on the Speaker tab, turn the sound off and on again.
It annoys me slightly that I was so simple.
I guess it's some sort of software bug, but I'm happy it worked out. I tried headset with USB, which worked fine, so I was just about to head out and buy a USB adapter for my headphones. Few bucks saved! Phew.0 -
Right click on the sound icon )))) and select playback device and headphones ?🍺 😎 Still grumpy, and No, Cloudflare I am NOT a robot 🤖BUT my responses are now out of my control they are posted via ChatGPT or the latest AI0

Playback Device - doesn't show headphones or earphones in the list. Only the laptop's speakers are shown.
I've tried "troubleshooting sound" too but this says no problems are identified.
The laptop's sound is turned up full.
Any other possibilities?0 -

What happens when you have sound coming through the speakers and then plug the headphones in, does it mute the speakers ?
Also what is the exact model number of Lenovo Z50-70 ?Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

What is BIOS? Sorry if that is a dense question. I can't find any reference to BIOS on that link.0 -
