my first neg

:(

Woke up today to find a red shiny dot from a US buyer - It basically says no item received- and refers to the fact that ebay won't do anything about it as they can't open a case.

This buyer has never contacted me, has never opened a case and has made no effort to let me know there was an issue. It looks as though he has gone straight to a case and for some reason has not been able to open one. Buyer has good feedback, has left about 60 or so in the past year which includes 3 neutrals and 1 neg. (2 negs including mine)

I phoned ebay as I was sure I could get this removed as it refers to a case- but they point blank refuse, apparently it is not specific enough about a case to fall into their feedback removal, they basically don't give a fig that buyer hasn't contacted me and urged me to work through this with the buyer- and to reach out to offer a solution.

To say I was cross is an understatement , my OH actually came up into the office to see what was going on. Me and the Guy in Dublin went round and round in circles- he even almost admitted that the reason buyer couldn't open a case was possibly because he had lost buyer protection through opening too many- I tried to tie him down on that but he was too slippery for me. He said he knew I was upset, and told me that as item wasn't received I now need to refund, and perhaps if I send a full refund today, plus an email apologising the buyer 'might' consider removing the neg. Then I admit I got childish- I told him buyer could go hang for his refund and was firmly reminded that ebay expect all sellers to refund in cases of loss as it was my fault ! I ended up by pointing out that as ebay themselves state - feedback comments are not necessarily true and are merely a buyers perspective of the transaction (that's why it cannot be removed apparently), so if ebay can ignore a definite statement in the feedback, so can I. As far as I am concerned the item is not lost as no case has been opened and buyer has not contacted me to say so. He even gave me the 'some seller prefer to refund entirely as a way of retaining their 100% feedback- so I pointed out that we are now past that, I frankly don't care as it's hard enough working through the blasted ebay glitches without 'paying' buyers to remove negatives.

Is it still the case that an ebay case can only be opened within 30 days of last estimated delivery date? If so I am going to wait the couple of days I need to completely clear that, then reply to the feedback .

I am sooooo angry, US buyers have caused me nothing but grief this winter (I also have an INR from a different US buyer today) , I have now decided to block the US entirely, I really can't cope with the buyers there at the moment.

  • I had a neg last NYE, it's an odd time to get ratty with an ebay purchase.

If you 'reach out' to the buyer and try to help (and fail) then ebay may remove it. I've had a couple removed where buyers do not seem to want to help themselves resolve problems.
  • I have come to the conclusion that eBay have shares in Prozac or straight jackets as their aim is clearly to send sellers round the bend, and it is clearly the season of demented buyers.

I got a PayPal charge back yesterday for a video game that I sold in early December. Buyer is claiming card was used fraudulently. Interestingly other feedback left for this person implies that they bought other games too during the past month, so either someone did go on a spending spree or they've seen how much the price of the game has dropped and is trying to recoup the money.

I have supplied PayPal with tracking /POP so hopefully I will have seller protection.

Taking soolin's post OT, yes, you will have seller protection with a POP for a chargeback for unauthorised use. Watch out for the £14 charge, they may try to hit you with that, but you can ask them to remove it as you are covered by seller protection.

As theonlywayisup says you are covered if POP shows item was sent within 7 days to the address paypal gave you. Keep your eye on this one- make sure your POP uploaded properly (I once uploaded one and it disappeared from the dispute console!)- start phoning paypal after a few days to remind them you have full seller protection.

I haven't lost one of these fraudulent claims yet.

I get page not responding on that- is it live chat?

I might try them tomorrow. I've already decided to send a 'report' buyer' email every day for a week. It won't help but it makes me feel better !

I recently had some terrible libellous feedback left. eBay at first told me there was nothing they could do. I pressed home that I was extremely unhappy about the libel and was shown how to complete a defamation claim , which meant I did get the feedback removed but the neg stayed.

I always think that is a lose lose situation- I really don't care what this buyer has said (luckily it is not libellous otherwise I'd feel differently), it is that red dot that is irritating me.

I have NOT been wishing the buyer a Happy New Year in my thoughts.

This past 6 weeks or so US buyers have accounted for around 5% of my sales - but out of 7 issues 6 of them have been from US buyers. The attitude seems to be just start accusing sellers of everything and don't bother being civil or use any common sense.

I have been crafting a follow up to the feedback and think I have something that doesn't break the rules- but highlights what an idiot buyer is- I sometimes think leaving a neg can harm a buyer almost as much as it does the seller- and I'm going to make sure my follow up hits where it hurts- without breaking the rules.

Personally, Soolin, I would let it go. How long will it take to drop off your first page of feedback?

I had a neg last year from a moron who bought a shaped picture disc record that couldn't be played in his jukebox, which is clearly MY fault.

Honestly, it's not worth your raised blood pressure, or time wasted arguing with the ebay drones. Just let it go.

It will be gone from the first page in about a day or two but it sits there on my dashboard for the whole year :(
