The real trick is not to buy any more clutter. It's so easy to buy stuff, but how much of it do we use after a year?

Today has flown by in the world of decluttering with lots of sunshine breaks. Have started tackling the attic and there is a lot to do... spiders averted and next batch for the tip brought down along with some things in a box for ebaying/carbooting.

Tim - interesting question and so simple - there is a long running thread here
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5385667 which explores just that and has lots of different opinions on why people buy and what they buy.

Personally mine is an accumulation over many years of working full time and bringing children up - now I have retired and have time and a goal to downsize in the next few years so for me that's a good enough reason.

I come from a hoarding family, so try and fight this in me. It is difficult. My mum used to buy me lots of kitchen items and gadgets she thought were great.

So update on carpets. They have went down but none of my doors will open! The rubbish that was down before was the cheapest of the cheap, it didn't even have any underlay. Result is the doors need to be plained. It's 7 doors over two bedrooms, thankfully I have a joiner booked for Tuesday. So stuck at bfs for another week.

    1152. Soaps sold online
    1153. Hair product used up
1154. Make up bag to cs
    1155. Bag of rubbish out

That's so frustrating - get one thing done & another task presents itself !! Glad you don't have to wait too long to get it fixed. :)

I found the Marie Kondo "Sparks Joy" test has helped me with buying as much as with discarding. I used to buy lots of stuff from Charity Shops because they were nice & a bargain - I am more discerning now (I still have my moments of weakness of course :o )

When people come to my home they don't think think that it is cluttered - in fact most people say the opposite. But I know even after quite a few big de-cluttering events there's still too much stuff & I'm basing that on a combination of there being plenty of stuff I don't use and that it doesn't take much for me to slip into disorganisation.

Hi, similar types of decluttering again but slight improvement compared to before I started this challenge:-

139-166) Computer bookmarks checked and deleted.
    167-182) Single food products had.
183-222) "Old" fridge freezer recipes had.
    223-224) Broken washing line pegs.
    225) Small bag of uneeded house plant compost put around a potato plant.
    226) Indoor compost materials to outside compost bin.
227-231) Outdoor containers of compost materials to compost bin.
    232) Hard to compost materials (i.e. woody) to collected garden recycling bin.
    233) Pruned off seed pods (too many grow every year).
    234) Swept up leaf litter and composted.
    235) Clipped "overgrown" grass.
    236) Pruned blackcurrant (so to see more of the garden).
    237) Removed old food debri/wild bird table (i.e. cardboard base) and put a new one down with fresh food.
    238) Clipped around the birds area (as tall plants served as places for cats to hide).
    239) Weeding.
240-241) Cardboard boxes and packaging from two deliveries recycled.
    242-243) Household bags of recycling.
    244-248) Household bags of rubbish.
249-250) Recycling and rubbish bins collected.
    251) Radio show listened too.

Totally argue. Tuesday is my birthday and I have rearranged my birthday meal to a lunch instead so I can get the door fixed and move all my furniture back in. Says internally " it will all be worth it".

So a couple of more use ups at the bfs

1156. Bottle of probiotics that I use everyday. Have another bottle with me.
    1157-1162. More soaps sold online
1163-1164. Padded envelopes from stash used
    1165. Book finished to cs
1166. Contact lens solution finished, have another with me.
    1167. Contact lenses case binned
    1168. Perfume used up.
