Please don't allow your children to run riot in a hotels lobby, that sort of behaviour makes all parents look like pratts.

They have already been extremely generous in their offer, if my relatives were recovering from being very ill I wouldn't be dragging them out until 9pm, I wouldn't be keeping children up that late either.

I went there once for a business lunch, it was rubbish and my gluten free food wasn't provided that I had ordered so I was given a bowl of peas!

The recompense offered seems adequate to me. Perhaps OP has overreacted but on the other hand an important family occasion has been ruined. The response on here whatever the rights or wrongs of the aftermath is up to the usual standard of unpleasantness and no it isn't simply a matter of disagreeing. Its the way it is done.

Had someone passed away or the child servery injured and had to be rushed to hospital then I would agree with the term "important family occasion ruined"

However going somewhere with the family and getting cold food isnt really in the same league. If it was that horrendous, why did they spend 6+ hours at the location?

No-one died, no-one was injured. You was still able to spend that time with your ill relatives as i presume you didnt just sit their in silence for 6 hours.

Not sure where you think the unpleasantness is in the thread, as thats obviously a subjective term and different for everyone.

One thing that does annoy me is it appears you've been to this hotel four times.

Yet you've only written one negative review of this last experience.

why did you not review the other three times? Was it because it was good the other times?

    Seems unfair.

Thats why they say theres no such thing as bad publicity. Supposedly for a good experience, someone will only tell 1 or 2 people, for a bad one, they'll tell 10 (although that was pre-internet days).

Maybe for future reference you could give us your comprehensive list of places open on Christmas Day.

In my experience most take away places are open over the holidays - exception perhaps being chip shops. There are people who actually order take away as their first choice for christmas dinner. Most chinese restaurants/take aways here dont close over our holidays and instead close end jan/start feb for the chinese new year.

Where's here even our Bengali Muslim place was closed on Christmas Day. McDonald's, KFC, Chinese, pizza places, nandos and other places were closed.

    Location: Central Scotland.

I'm not even in a city either.

It did surprise me too initially. But not uncommon for people to substitute their christmas dinner at all tbh - ham, a roast, steak pie, duck, chicken etc. Some people just really dont like christmas food, I've kind of stopped thinking of it as out of the ordinary. .

Wherever I've lived I've had friends who don't do Christmas and have been able to order Indian or Chinese- either takeaway or delivery.
I don't think the places that do it advertise it widely and are usually open for only a few hours- but it certainly isn't unusual.
I'd think an app like Just Eat would be useful as they show if a place is open or closed.

I was surprised how common it is too and I have never lived in a big city these were small towns mostly.

I'm looking for some advice, our family went out on Xmas Day to a local Hotel. Basically over 200 guests didn't get their Xmas Dinner, they were short staffed, 1 of the chef's had walked out Xmas Eve and the Restaurant Manager then decided to walk out at 1:45pm on Xmas Day because he couldn't cope & left a sinking ship. This is the email I have sent to the Operations Director because the Hotel Manager offered a refund which is to be expected and a free Sunday Lunch, we never want to go back to this hotel again & the Hotel Manager has said we can't have cash compensation because this is classed as money laundering. Would like some advise please?

Our table was booked for 4pm (this is our 4th year) however the table wasn’t available at 4pm due to the previous customers running over due to slow service. I cleared the table at 5pm in order for my family to sit down and reset so we weren’t forgotten about. My parents who I have Christmas Dinner with every 2 years are elderly & couldn’t wait for their dinner, it also wasn’t evident if we were going to get fed at this point. This was distressing, without sounding dramatic my mum & dad have been seriously ill this year & with their illnesses we don’t know what is around the corner which I find most upsetting that this is was our time to spend together.

I was consoling the Assistant Manager who was crying as she was getting verbally attacked from the other customers as there was nobody actively telling people what was going on, along with a free bar in the inspiration suite which wasn’t the best idea. Approx 200 irate customers who hadn’t eaten and a free bar added further fuel to the fire. There was no Senior Management to support the staff, myself and sister-in-law were advising the other customers and trying to calm them down!

Whilst we were waiting for our food our children were occupying themselves by playing outside in the foyer to be knocked over by guests playing on the luggage trolley and then being sworn at & pushed because our children were in the way. The mens toilets had been smashed up which I have attached a photo.

We sat down at our table and asked for a large dish full of bread rolls just to keep us and the children going until they were ready to bring us something. Luckily I had brought along the list of food which we pre-ordered and gave this to the waitress as they didn’t have the order. We received the food in a fashion about 6:30pm it wasn’t what we ordered it was cold, salty and congealed but we would have eaten anything! We didn’t get what was advertised in your brochure.

We left the restaurant at approx. 21:30, we were supposed to be at a family house at 7pm. We sat outside in the foyer for about 30 mins but there was a large group who were looking for trouble, the atmosphere was very hostile & you could feel the tension. Not somewhere I wanted my children to be.

Mike has emailed me this morning and kindly offered a full refund and Sunday Lunch as compensation however since consulting with my party they felt that this has added further insult to injury. I have since spoken to Mike and he has now expanded his offer to an overnight stay/party night but only at the Village South Leeds.

My party guests do not want to return to this hotel, our day was a disaster it was stressful & caused unnecessary anxiety for elderly party members& what is supposed to be a valuable and precious family day was ruined by your hotel and we want financial compensation. Mike has said that by law this is not allowed and is classed as money laundering however I am not convinced this is correct.

This really annoys me - people who shout from the rooftops when they're not satisfied but don't give praise when things go well.

Very unfair - but human nature, I guess.
  • I didn't expect a barrage of abuse and will be the last time I ask for advise on here.

am gonna guess you will try and get some compensation for this too?
