The OP is obviously expecting hundreds of pounds compensation. The world's gone mad.

One spoiled day in a whole life.

My friend and her husband booked a Christmas meal. I asked her how it went. Oh, the meal was horrible so we won't go there again. They didn't write reams of irrelevant nonsence, instead they paid up like grown ups and have moved on, with plans to go somewhere else next year.

I agree with the posters so far. The letter is far too emotive. Yes you didn't get what you ordered. What do you want? You've got a full refund, a Sunday lunch and an offer of an overnight stay. I'd say that's quite reasonable.

If you want financial compensation above the refund you will have to take legal action against the hotel but all the hotel is legally required to do is refund or replace and they have done both which is very generous of them. It sounded like the issue was beyond management control. They weren't to know one of their chefs was going to walk out on them. They aren't able to employ another chef with zero notice on Christmas day it's impossible.

If this were a normal ruined meal, I'd expect my money back.

As this is a special festive meal that was ruined, compensation of something more than simply a refund is appropriate. The offer of a free meal is fair, the offer of accommodation is generous.

It is not the restaurant's problem that your parents had been ill during the year and that this was some way of enjoying Christmas after that horrible year. To the restaurant, you are simply one of many Christmas Dinner bookings with no back story.

I like your trip advisor review. I also like the other bad review which was angry that they hadn't made gluten free pigs and blankets or stuffing.

I also see you've been four times now so I can only assume the other three times it was excellent.

It seems you're incredibly unreasonable not to take their decent offer of free accommodation, food and a refund based on one bad day.

    Where's the review?

    Got a link?
  • I've a good Solicitor who will take this up on a no win no fee case for you, I believe you should speak with them forthwith and seek damages of around £7500.00 for this very sorry state of affairs. I'd be fuming to and would want them to hand me the business over as a way of appeasing me.

Thanks for the feedback & totally take on board you think the meal is compensation, I didn't expect a barrage of abuse and will be the last time I ask for advise on here.

I could see that coming from a mile away. As far as I can see you havent received a "barrage of abuse" - Just opinions and home truths that differ from yours.

p.s the trip advisor review on 'gluten free pigs in blankets' wasn't my review but happy to send the link to mine

One thing that does annoy me is it appears you've been to this hotel four times.

Yet you've only written one negative review of this last experience.

why did you not review the other three times? Was it because it was good the other times?

    Seems unfair.

To be fair, having booked an Xmas meal out who would have the
makings of a meal for 15 ready to go home to cook?

Yes, we have stuff in the freezer or party food, or chicken breasts, but 15 people take a lot of feeding when you are not expecting it!!

OP you have not relly received a barrage of abuse, you have received opinions which differ from yours, opinions which are a little more objective perhaps? I am sure it was a horrible and upsetting day but worse things do happen.
