The recompense offered seems adequate to me. Perhaps OP has overreacted but on the other hand an important family occasion has been ruined. The response on here whatever the rights or wrongs of the aftermath is up to the usual standard of unpleasantness and no it isn't simply a matter of disagreeing. Its the way it is done.

Thanks for the feedback & totally take on board you think the meal is compensation, I didn't expect a barrage of abuse and will be the last time I ask for advise on here.

p.s the trip advisor review on 'gluten free pigs in blankets' wasn't my review but happy to send the link to mine

With all due respect your yet another poster (I've seen loads today) that seem to ignore questions they don't want to answer.

You also need to learn how to complain. It needs to be factual, to the point and clear on what solution you are expecting. Your letter is none of these. I also wouldn't suggest you'll never go back in a complaint as they're likely to give you less (no reason to please you) and you'll likely tell friends/family not to go there despite what they do. In their position I'd have given you nothing beyond the refund so I'd suggest their offer is very reasonable. The offer of a free meal is likely in order to 'prove' to you they're a good restaurant. If you don't want to take this they've no reason to give you money.

So I'll ask you again what you've already been asked as you need to know. What are you expecting out of this?

It's not really your fault but we get a lot of posters on here seeking compo who won't then say what compo they're expecting. If the amount you expect is so ridiculous you aren't willing to state it on here then I guess that proves the request is unreasonable.

To sum it up I'd be stunned if they offered you anything beyond what they have already done.

You still haven't said why you changed your mind about the original level of compensation being acceptable until you spoke to someone else who thought it wasn't......... and how much or what you feel IS reasonable.

Stevie's post did make me laugh though - Sarcastic devil :D

Absolutely, I am in a flooded area, although I had to throw away everything from the fridge (and believe me it was stuffed full on Boxing Day), due to the flood causing an extended power outage, some people in town were a hell of a lot worse off.

To be honest, if it was as bad as you say, then beans on toast all round would have sufficed!

To be fair, having booked an Xmas meal out who would have the makings of a meal for 15 ready to go home to cook?

Yes, we have stuff in the freezer or party food, or chicken breasts, but 15 people take a lot of feeding when you are not expecting it!!

This is what I was going to say. I couldn't rustle up a Christmas dinner for 15 but we could have pulled all sorts of stuff out of the cupboard and freezer and had a 'pick what you like and let's make the most of things' meal. Given the right attitude, it could have turned out to be the best-remembered Christmas day for lots of good reasons.
  • Oven, hob and microwave fired up to keep food warm until it all arrives and home delivery carry outs from various places to suit one and all of the 15...and enjoy...job done.

    Two people One experience

"Do you remember that Christmas day we went out to dinner- The chef had walked out - the manager quit and we had the most miserable Christmas ever"

!"Do you remember that Christmas where that lovely hotel we always go to had a walk out - dinner was a disaster and we came home and filled up with the food for Boxing day and couldn't stop giggling as it was like a trip to Fawlty Towers......I'll never forget that Christmas-It was such a different one "

Maybe for future reference you could give us your comprehensive list of places open on Christmas Day.
