KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Hi everyone! Can I join you?
I read the first book 2 weeks ago (on the 2nd one now) and have been decluttering ever since! I'm quite pleased with the progress I've made, especially seeing as I can only really do stuff in the hour between dinner and DD's bedtimes so that DH can watch the baby.
So far I have:
Done all of the clothing in the house
Books
My hair, beauty and bedside table things
Paperwork
Kitchen paraphanalia
I've gotten rid of so much. The lady in the charity shop now knows my name! I've managed to sell a few bits on Ebay and I've got a freecycler coming to collect a broken TV so we don't have to lug that to the tip.
I was planning on trying to sell baby clothes at an NCT sale but they now have a 10 clothing item limit and I don't think I would make enough to hire a table somewhere so I took the slightly gutwrenching decision to charity shop all of the beautiful barely worn baby things this morning.
In my sorting last night I managed to uncover an old shredder which still works so I've put that to good use on the paperwork.
My biggest challenge is DH who is a hoarder and very sentimental. I managed to get him to go through a box of work stuff that has been under the bed for 2 years but it was a very slow and frustrating (for me anyway!) process. Going to try to get him to go through his bedside table tonight. Eldest DD (5yo) is also a spanner in the works as she appears to have inherited her dads sentimentality for ripped bits of paper and outgrown toys!0 -

Crocheted beards? A photo is required surely!
These are prototypes, apparently one is required to be wearable the rest are to go on a stick the bread seller carries about with him

musogirl can you sell baby things on Facebook?
I am a member of the local Facebook selling group but I've never sold anything on it. From watching, baby stuff just doesn't seem to sell unless it's big things like jumperoos, and even then people want them for peanuts. I'd rather save the hassle and know that it's all gone to a good cause.Wow, I'm impressed Musogirl, I read the book a month ago and have barely got started yet!
Thanks! I'm a very all or nothing person so the MK method suits me. DH on the other hand is the complete opposite so getting him to sort out the smallest pile of paperwork was like pulling teeth!0 -
Love the beards Mrs moneypenny
Your doing really well musogirl and I can sympathise about your OH mine is the biggest hoarder of carp. All I can do is dump everything in his space, garage or man cave, and when he can't move anymore I will hire a skip :rotfl:konMarie and fabbing all the way

I must confess I do still have a few clothes that i could not part with like my levi denim jacket. i have only done round one though of my clothes as i noticed i have various sarongs/scarfs that i could not part with last time but don't really use them yet they are so colourful and remind me i need to get my money sorted so i can go on holiday!
If you're not using the sarongs and scarfs, but still love them, could you turn them into something else? Maybe a bed throw or cushions? That way you still get to enjoy the happy holiday memories.0 -
Hugs Mrs MP Its so difficult when you are being pulled in loads of directions
But you are doing your best and that is all you can do
I am glad you are loving your job that helps no end
As for me already a new binbag is on the go :rotfl: So far a lovely jacket but too big for me and just makes me look like a small person inside a massive jacket :rotfl:Which is what it is
Another jacket which I do love but I never wear and is a tad on the short side.
And a horrible Bottle Green hoody which I just stick on for the gym which I have always hated as it reminds me of School and having to kneel on the gym floor while the teacher went round with a ruler to make sure your skirt was only an inch from the floor :rotfl:God forbid if you had grown an inch in the month she hadnt checked.
I have nothing to replace it with(which is why its still here) so decided I would feel better being freezing cold than to wear that awful hoody :rotfl:

Good morning Konverts
I have been AWOL for a while but I'm back with a vengeance. I shall catch up with the thread later but I did just skim the last page.
Musogirl. Wow - fantastic progress. You've fired me up.......:rotfl:
Anyhoo.......made £35 last week, selling a few bits and bobs. Going to box up some of the "good stuff" ready to take to the auction house.
Then I am about to start round 2.
Problem is I now have to clear dads flat in the next few weeks as well - so theres another tidal wave of stuff to get through.
Mysogirl - I think I'll take a leaf out of your book. I'll just be swift and decisive. However, My dad will agonise over every bent nail and rusty screw though......I'm going to need patience.;)0 -
Just read this and it has made me think
Why did YOU start this journey ?
What would be YOUR reason to declutter? Big life goal? (Or maybe you just can’t find your favourite black trousers…)
