KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

  • Another bin bag of baby clothes to the charity shop this morning. Filled 2 bags with empty dvd cases last night after transferring the discs to a disc folder. Will aim to do the same with DDs dvds today. DH managed to worm his way out of doing his bedside drawers last night so will have to encourage him towards that later!

Was a bit peed off last night. I had an email from somebody on ebay that I sold a coat to. They are not happy with how big the bust area is and say it's more like a size 20 not the 18 I said (and it says on the label). The coat is from Bravissimo and the size as I stated on the listing is 18 super curvy. What did she expect?! Going to have to refund that when it comes back and try to sell it again.

Just read this and it has made me think :D Why did YOU start this journey ?

What would be YOUR reason to declutter? Big life goal? (Or maybe you just can’t find your favourite black trousers…)

We've always been cluttered, even when our house is 'tidy' it looks a mess. I've done small declutters before when moving house, we're hoping to buy somewhere in the nbext few years and I've decided that this time around we aren't moving things we don't need to keep and I want to be decluttered well before. Also hoping it'll mean we end up with a house that actually looks tidy when we tidy up!

Progress is very slow for me, I managed clothes and books and am going to start paperwork later today I hope. I do paperwork anyway before MK every yearish so hoping it won't be too awful.
Our house is FULL of komono though, thats where the real differences could be made. I don't think it'll be possible for me to gather all komono of one type at once, as it's all over the place. I might go off book and switch to room by room for that... I am following the facebook group doing the 26 week challenge though and they do break the komono down to smaller categories so I'll just see what feels easiest at the time.

I got fed up of fussy folk when ebaying and now say quite clearly that NO RETURNs ARE ACCEPTED...unless there was something at fault with the product...they can have the 'Joy' of selling it if they don't like it or just want their money back.... I am not a shop.!! Anyone else feel like this?

I do say no returns normally but her complaint was that I should have explained what super Curvy means! I also am aware that ebay rarely take the seller's side in disputes and I had quite a few bids on it so it should hopefully sell again without too much difficulty. I don't know whether I should refund the original postage cost or not.

Sorry I made you spit your coffee out. The pattern was from pintrest. When I took them to work someone thought they were knitted washable lady items:eek:

Took a bin bag and big box full to the CS this morning.

I think I started the journey as I'd tried decluttering so many times and it just wasn't working. The house was (still is) full but I'm getting there and now have a better attitude to what comes in.

My progress is also slow but the areas I have done have been kept that way. I used to wonder when everyone used to go on about an empty drawers etc but i am now at the stage where i have them too!
I have done a lot of random kondoing as my things are also scattered around but as i am doing this i am trying to gather similar things into similar places e.g. craft, wrap paper etc are now together for when i blitz them.

Weather-wise it looks like another wet weekend but i have not got the same productive mood as last weekend so will see how it goes.

I ventured into teenage son's bedroom. It's a shared room with his big brother. With his help (no ps4 allowed until we'd finished!) we piled all his clothes on the bed, sorted them, I didn't do the spark joy bit, he thinks I'm mad as it is, two hours later his half of the bedroom is done.
A black bag for the charity shop, a bag for me to take to school (spare PE kit) and some rubbish.
I haven't folded Konmari style but I have organised his stuff "teenage style" instead of putting all his shorts etc together, I've put all his football kit together, same with rugby and swimming. It's neatly housed in an ikea wardrobe hanging organiser. He's quite impressed.
He was short of space to put his ever increasing amount of school books however we have now created an empty drawer so books can be sorted into study areas and spread between two drawers.
Not so good news is, his bed is broken. I thought it just needed a new mattress, but sorting the bed drawers out I noticed that the frame is broken in two places.
DH has sorted out his books, a box is going to my sister, another box to charity.

    Feels good to be back.

:D That was one of the gadzillions of random facts lodged in my bonce anyway. But what I don't understand is why knit fake beards for school and why put one on the bread? I must have missed a post which makes sense of all this - hellllppppppppeeeee meeee!

Got the bathroom all done (keep peeping at it :o) and have put the gift bottles of bath product away, bar the one in use, and have put the gift handwash bottle on the basin to be used. Much more pleasant with fewer things to look at, and I'll bring the bath products out one at a time and use each one up and recycle the bottle.

Homestead is looking pretty darned good atm, apart from the kitchen, which looks like a bunch of slovens have run amok in there - I was out all yesterday evening and wasn't going to be banging dishes about at nearly midnight.

And this morning I had the errands to run, a chazzer drop-off and the bathroom project. Mightn't be the best excuse for not washing dishes but it's mine and I'm sticking to it.:rotfl:
