A moving box full of clothes is on its way to Africa as we speak! Thrilled to bits! DH is African and we always collect stuff in the attic for his relatives there. We always keep a lookout for any friends going to that country, to see if they are willing to take some stuff with them. Now, my colleague is going there on a business trip, so we filled an old huge holdall with wheels with clothes. Kondoed: 1 huge holdall, box of clothes.
Dd celebrated her birthday with some classmates this morning. That has felt like a millstone.... Her birthday was in June.....I finally got round to organising it, she had a lovely time and was given many gifts, most of which she already playedcwith, and most of the craft supplies we can already bin. I'm in the process of clearing our loft out as it would be really embarrassing if a gust of wind blew the roof off...but not as embarrassing as it would have been if it had blown off before I made a start. I've already got rid of 2 car loads of stuff and some rubbish and 2 large bags of shredding...still loads to do though, so if anyone's at a loose end, my house needs seriously reorganising-not just the loft.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

I made a proper start on my clothes today. 1 bag of rags and 2 binbags for the charity shop. Do charity shops need the hangers as I've got loads of spares now? Otherwise they'll have to go into recycling, I think some of the supermarkets take them?
I've probably reduced clothes by about a quarter, I'm sure there will be more that go at a later date but there are some that I didn't throw that although I haven't worn them for a while, if they are more visible now in the wardrobe, I may pick them. I seem to have far more clothes for better weather than we ever get in this country!
I decided to get rid of a dress, then found the shoes I bought to go with the dress. In the shoebox was an order of service for a friend's wedding I wore the dress and shoes to. It was Sept 2000. Time for them to go I think! I also persuaded OH to part with a vile silk shirt I've never seen him wear plus 2 pairs of trousers, so small amounts of his stuff are going also.Make £2025 in 2025

Well done Slinky. I've done some of my clothes once. I need to revisit them and get them kon maried properly. I think I could probably get rid of at least half of them.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Well, DH managed to evade sorting his drawers again! However, I have kondoed DD1s dvds and her art supplies. Also done DD2S toys but that's a bit of a freebie as she's only 5 months and doesn't have much yet!
Well done to everybody getting their kondoing done!0 -
I'd be seriously embarrassed if our roof blew off at the moment. Although I've made a start :j I'm still on the clothes section, so the loft is a way off. Actually, In saying that, there are soooo many books up there, so maybe OH will be going up there sooner rather than later (Sadly I cant get up there)
Talking of clothes : so far I've KO'd my tops, dresses, cardigans and jumpers, underwear and nightware :j:j:j What with folding and disgarding I've already have an empty drawer and I only had 4 to start with.
I can't remember who mentioned it, but thank you for recommending Genie. I've just ordered my first bag. I've split everything into 3 sections: to sell via Genie, cs and rags. I know I could get more selling things myself, but poor health makes this difficult. So I'll take what I can get. I'm taking the attitude that anything is a bonus.
Already I am so looking forward to dropping all my bags off next week. And starting to really appreciate my dwindling supplies:)0 -
Greenbee: really sorry to hear about your Dad. Like others have said, I really hope to get to spend lots of time with him, building more precious memories.
GQ: orry to hear about your mum. I really hope the medication helps.0 -
Got an empty loft - as we never put anything up there when we moved in! It's all in the garage instead!A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

A couple I know married in their forties and their move into their first home together was always going to be a bit of a bu88er as they were putting the contents of their two separate houses into this new house on the same day.
One of the couple had relatively small amounts of Stuff, the other had an awful lot, which they were fully-aware of beforehand. Accordingly, they had planned it like a military operation with professional movers, boxes labelled as to their destination rooms, all the tips followed.
On the day, they arrived at their newly-purchased home to find both reception rooms stacked floor-to-ceiling with the outgoing owner's Stuff, which immediately threw the kibosh on their moving-in plans. Cue frantic calls to the other party's solicitor, to get him to collect.
Once that was resolved (many days later) they eventually made their way into the loft. To find it rammed with the former owner's Stuff. Cue more frantic phone-calling to him, only to be told airily that he didn't want it any more and that they could throw it away...................!
It would be lovely to relate that his lofty discards included something like an overlooked Old Master painting or a Ming Dynasty vase, which was then sold at auction for enough to pay off their mortgage at a stroke and enable them to go for a cruise, too. Alas and alack, it was just absolute rubbish up there, and nothing more than hot and grubby work getting rid of it all.:(Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
