Gentle hugs to those coping with illnesses, hard times, and deaths .... it's very tough.

Mavvy - packed up in 1.5 hours? Omigod, I have a long way to go .... I could easily pack my *books* in 1.5 hours :o:o:o but I do keep working on them - found a copy of the Tao Te Ching yesterday that I bought in 1980 .... this is why I used to buy so many books back in the day, because things like that were only available if you bought them, the library wouldn't get it. But now, its available online for nowt, so I got a text copy, and said goodbye to the book.

Joyous piece of kondoing this week: tax records from 7 years ago can be thrown away :j:j:j I always do it as soon as I can.
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Mav 1.5 hrs! I'm incredibly impressed, dead to think of how much longer longer than that it would take me - certainly closer to 7 or 8. Well that's my motivation for today then :)

patentgirl I can empathise, the clearing out after my gran died was ' interesting' - tinned food with an expiry 20 years previously etc. My mum is sorting a few things, but her house has 2 previous generations of my father's family's stuff! The perils of inheriting an old house I guess. The thought of eventually having to deal with all that is a nightmare for me. I keep hoping the kondo woo will start it's magic :)
:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A

Sorry to hear about your mum GreyQueen, it must be a difficult time for you.

I dread the thought of outliving my brother. He's living in the family home which has been getting more bung full of carp for the past 60 years. My darling Dad passed away several years ago, I'm sure my brother still has everything including his clothes. There's old stuff of mine there I'd happily throw away, but I can't retrieve it as brother won't let me in. It'll just come down to me to deal with it all if I outlive him. Bad enough now, but in another 20+ years I dread to think what it will be like.

Hi counting -stars ,many of us have been through all categories but still find more to do !!!!! Komono for me now tends to be those areas that get things dumped usually by dh! A drawer in the kitchen cupboard that he pushes things in.

Yesterday I had another shufti round of drawers etc in wardrobes, now have 2 empty in the cod :j would be more but dh has three full of "work" stuff! He keeps old clothes for work and although I did go through it with him not long ago it's an ongoing project.
Feeling the need for some sticky labels:p love to see things labelled and tidy!

GQ hugs for you and your mum,it must be very stressful for you knowing she's not close by. Wise words though about not leaving our affairs for the young ones to deal with.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.

I know KM says you shouldn't throw other people's stuff out....... but I've just had a huge fling from my OH's 'study'. I have to go in there sometimes to reach into a cupboard for something we cannot keep elsewhere. I could barely reach in the cupboard as I couldn't put my feet where I needed to on the floor. Occasionally I moan/suggest about tidying up in there, which is limited to him chucking stuff into a council recycling bag which doesn't actually leave his study. So this morning I dragged the bag out to discover loads of carp below it, which mainly went in the bag. Along with about 80-100 unopened magazines he gets monthly from trade associations he belongs to. There's a nice magazine rack he has them filed in........ dated 2012. But I was throwing away stuff from 2013-2015. If he hasn't read them by now, he isn't going to. And he meant to take one with him on Monday (he's working away from home in the week for the next 6 months), but he left it behind in the hall....

His study really looks like a tip still as there's all the plastic envelopes the mags come in on the floor, a lot of them need our address cutting off, so I'll do that later/tomorrow, got to get on with my own work now.

I came down and blitzed some of my own clutter in my office also so it wasn't just his stuff going, but there's 4 bags of recycling going with the rubbish today, instead of the usual 1. I've got a half bag in the garage also, I don't like wasting the bags as they are hard to get hold of.

I know KM says you shouldn't do it, but if he can't keep it tidy when he's based at home in the week, it certainly isn't going to happen at the weekends when he's home. He barely goes in there anyway unless he's between contracts and job hunting as it's such a depressing space to be in! Even after I've blitzed and tidyed up it's still going to be overcluttered but there's stuff I have to leave to him to deal with.

    Phew, rant over.

  • Hi Everyone
Sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis GQ and your Dad's Greenbee. Gentle hugs from me to you both. Try and spend loads of quality time with them.

Well been busy working for a few days. Yesterday and today spend an hour in bed catching up on the thread with several pots of coffee to help.

Everyone seemed to be doing really well. I can't believe that Mav still has clothes to send to the CS. Lol.

It's that time of year again and I have started my spring clean.
Set aside this morning to DO the bathroom. Bucket and empty box in hand, set to.
Cleared the room of all objects ( bath mat, toothbrushes, toilet brush etc.) 10 seconds.
Emptied the airing cupboard which is in my bathroom. (3 minute)
Hoovered it all out, wipe down the paint work and pipes in there. ( 5 minutes) did a real good job.
Put it all back neat and tidy.( 10 minutes) not a lot in there Kondoed last year.
Washed all the paintwork and tiles down. Tiles on 2 walls floor to ceiling.
Put some car wash and wax in the water and the tiles came out really shiny.
Steamed cleaned around the taps and loo.
Washed out the bath, sink and loo. Washed the floor.
Had a coffee while the floor dried.
Went back and polished the taps and glass/mirrors.
Total time just over an hour. SORTED.
A tip for you lovely people. The daily shower cleaner stuff that you spray in the shower, £1 from most SM is almost the exact same stuff that I use at work for polishing. Work in a coffee shop, imagine marble, glass, mirrors, chrome and s/steel. Brought my taps and mirrors up really shiny.

Keep at my lovely's, this system really does work.
    Love to all
    T. Lady

I used to buy something called Shower Sparkle which did a poor job of keeping the shower clean. We now use a 50/50 mix of ordinary Flash/water in a trigger spray which keeps the worst of the grubbiness at bay in the shower across the week.
