  • I think ds2 has finally got the message, his dad has nagged him for a while to tidy his room. This morning before he left for school he said "don't go in my room it's really messy I've got everything out of my wardrobe and it's all on the bed. I'm going through it tonight to decide what I want to keep, because I have too many clothes" I think he may be kondoing!!!!

    I'm off to work now.
    Have a joyful afternoon all.

    Tale of two contrasting upbringings!!
Does anyone find themselves shaking their heads in bemusement at their OH's attitude to letting go of stuff, due to the way their family are??!

Me: I found some random video games in the loft, I've stuck them on a free site to get rid of them.
OH: they must be my brothers, I'll need to ask if he wants them (guess what he does!)
Me: That seems odd, the console isn't there and we have had them for at least 6 years???

He didn't even know they were there! I should have kept my mouth shut, but that's not allowed according to Kon Mari. Can you bend the rules?

My mother informed me that she tossed a binbag of paper that was mine but it's been there for ten years so you missed your chance :rotfl:
Can you guess what house is packed to the rafters?

Whew I can calm down with a coffee now!

I didn't think of that when I posted earlier. LOL

  • Finally read the actual book! Aided in my motivation.

I have already removed two car loads of junk (if not more) so to find more is just shocking. I wish I had taken photos along the way but may post a few at the end of my journey?

I truly kondo'd this weekend as a 6 yard skip was filled with rubble I had bagged and left in my garden for a year, the contents of my shed I was holding onto and my built in wardrobe!

I also have five bin bags to go :three bin bags of clothes to charity shop, a bin bag of paperwork (how??? now fits onto a small file) a bin bag of misc books, large picture frames, jewellery, and a bin bag of clothes to sell/fix/ sort (I have a timeframe of a week for this).

We have removed the built in wardrobe and bought a very much smaller one. Ideally all my clothes and shoes should fit in my 50cm x 58cm x 196cm space! I bought a shoe rack and drawers for it on ebay and my clothes fit perfectly inside, so as long as I have enough hanging space I am sorted. I actually can't believe all my summer and winter clothes, coats and shoes will fit in such a small space.

I am happy to have bedside tables with storage but would like to avoid getting another storage unit/ cabinet for the bedroom.

Since the first Kondo under my bed, (which was packed and one of my car loads I chucked at christmas,) has remained EMPTY and the under the stairs wardrobe has remained so tidy I jump each time I open it.

I have made £50 exactly so far flogging bits, but give myself a week on gumtree and then it goes. Whilst I could have made much more I think I would have stopped this process if I had paused, and I did not want the stress of fleebay.

I have also only spent £4.98 on two skirts I love this month (I spent £549 last year on clothes) and returned £30 of clothing I bought this month on a whim.

Next on my list is cables, to go back through dvds and games, to finish ornaments\ pictures on walls, to go through my sentimental drawer and finally to go through the craft stuff I sorted at christmas but haven't used since. I will then be done....

I have found very few posts online of people doing misc category bits, people seem to stop after the first few categories. Anyone else where I am with clearing and nearing the end??

    Art'noon

First day as a student - got up at 6.30 no Jeremy kyle and not a pot noodle in sight. What's that all about? :rotfl:

And I have done some work already :T

    So a coupla three things...

    1. Immense satisfaction in completely Kondoing my inbox for work emails. "Don't care don't care don't care" "delete delete delete" :rotfl:
    2. Went to dads at the weekend  my goodness it bothered me how cluttered and how dirty it is. Not dad's fault, brother and brother's girlfriend live in as carers for dad (it's dad's house) - why can't two perfectly fit and able people tidy a little and clean a lot? I know they don't have much money but hot water is free (dad pays) and detergents are cheap and elbow grease is free. When i next go i am going to clean the fridge as I think it could be hazardous to dad's health. If it were my house (dons self righteous hat) it would have half the stuff and therefore be easier to keep clean.
    3. Went to friend's for coffee. Friend is naturally tidier than me - but now my house looks cleaner, tidier and more minimalist :T I couldn't get over the clutter of photos in her lounge (about 5 LOL). I have come a long way.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Cables ..mmm. i know that one. I just found out that you can connect now tv with a non hdmi cable. Off i trot under the stairs ... there is a veg rack full of them. don't ask me what for! found the cable i needed now i don't know where the remote is so still can't finish the job. Them cables need KD asap.

  • I'm the same as GQ - I also have a bag by the front door, where I drop all the items for the CS and also another bag for the rags, which we will take to the supermarket clothes bin.

I also do an electrical one every now & then, if there are any extra cables and wires hanging around and I don't what they are for. I think that the majority of the cables and assorted nonsense is in the loft.

Come the first weekend after 8th March and we will be up in loft having a nice KD session - YAY!. However, this is now all dependent on when OH's operation is. I can't get into the loft without his help - need a tall person to get the ladder down.

So in the meantime, in my study/revision downtime - I do little bits here and there.

Hope that all had a good day so far.
  • VJsmum, congratulations on your student life. It was 'Blockbuster' in the afternoons after lectures when I was a student, but I'm showing my age. :rotfl:

Counting_stars, I think komono is just so varied that fewer people post about it, clothes, books etc are 'big wins' but the fiddly stuff just seems to go on for ever and is less easy to record.
Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.
  • For me, I don't tend to post about komono as the list gets long and fiddly for the amount of stuff gone, compared to the initial categories eg. a bag of paperwork. I measure komono by how many bags I put to the CS.

Having another little woo moment, my bedroom feels much easier and I managed to paint the wastepaper basket in that room and the one in the living room. Does it reduce the items? No, but it certainly stops these necessary objects from jarring my eyes so I think counts on the woo side :D

Took a fair dizzy spell at physio earlier so am taking things easy. Planning what to attack next :)

Counting Stars all of your clothes in that space?? Thats amazing :D
:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A
