KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Thank you all... I was not expecting so many replies! I hope it does inspire some recent Konverts. I think it was Kittie who mentioned wanting a stationary drawer, and I thought well I used to want one of those, and now I have one! Plus enough nice clothes, a clean house, etc....
Being of the low energy fatigue type, I think others worry a bit that I've not been getting out much lately as well, I'm not sure they understand that I've laid such important foundations.Jan 20 - NST challenge

Excellent work everyone
I too enjoy the ease with which things can be done,. Every Monday is my cleaning day, and starting at 9am when dgs goes to school. I can do the bathroom kitchen, empty bins, hoover all through and and mop all downstairs by 10.30 /11. :T
After that if any other things need doing windows etc. Then I've plenty of time. But I do keep on top of things,, if I see something I do then and there.
My next big cleaning job is the oven, but it has a joint of meat in at the moment so that can wait!!!
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to know where you are up to when reading this thread??
If I've not been on I start on the last page and work backwards!! I'm sure there is an easier solutionsFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Picture this:
Yesterday, at the pal's shop, I was looking for something in the desk drawers and ended up having a tidy through.
Lots of perished elastic bands came outta there, plus I found a printer cartridge. I asked if I could take it to the chazzer that recycles them for their cause.
He; That's a perfectly good printer cartridge.
Me; It's opened and someone's written 'used' on the box.
He; But.....
Me; You haven't even got a printer, have you? (he hasn't).He admitted defeat and I dropped it off a few minutes ago.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Wort I think there is a way to do it via subscribed threads but it never really worked for me. What I do is save the last page as a bookmark in Google in a folder called Threads I am Following. Then when I open the bookmark I carry on reading from where I left off. Save the new page as a book mark and delete any that I have already readIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Haven't started Kondo, as I had a rather long guitar practice. Didn't want to stop, as I was enjoying it. Going to NOW do my jeans drawer (at least), to try n keep up the momentum.0 -

I did that kitchen drawer and it only took 40 minutes. 16, I kid you not, 16 radiator keys, two year old packs of chewing gum, mini torches and so on. It now hold necessities with a little dumping space, specs and spec cleaners, spare keys, pens, sticky notelets, matches for candles and a few other bits. My bulky house address book has been on top of that block for weeks, quietly and safely in with the stationery now. Oh and don`t mention the elastic bands and safety pins, paracetamol etc. All away where they should be
I do think we all need a transit area though, we all get times when something needs to be put down and we are in a rush, better having a set space, rather than many different spaces. Personally I can tackle a set space more easily. If I have things that need to go to my shed, lock n lock boxes, kilners etc, then they go into a small old style basket on the floor and I find it easy to pick the basket up rather than go there several times in a day0 -
Just kondoed 3 floor lamps that were cluttering up my spare room, an IKEA CD stand and two old rugs to a c/s - I felt really great about it until a guy parked next to me, stood and watched me lift the stuff out of my car and kept moaning at me because apparently I was "too close to his precious car" - was *this* close to telling him to either shut up and help me if he was so worried or eff-off! I hate people like that who feel that they're so important that everyone else must run their life around them! It has put me in a really bad mood so sorry for the rant! 😡“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Hello. I have been quietly KM-ing along, not focusing on categories as such but like others, going where my gut instinct tells me to, although I do plan to work through categories soon.
What is amazing is that I mentioned in passing to mum that I am looking at things and deciding whether they are delightful to me, and all of a sudden it seems to have hit the spot for her, she is decluttering, again in no order, but focusing on her conservatory...it's coming to spring and I suggested that even if we don't manage to move to the house we want then she can enjoy the sun in there. From being a barely accessible room you can now get in there and I helped move boxes of paper to a height she wanted so she could carry on! I feel like I ought to get a move on with my house, but I want to enjoy the inspiration of seeing a lifelong hoarder enjoy her home again.

Someone at my house has been busy kondoeing, all the fruit I bought but 2 pieces have gone. I bought enough banana and apples yesterday for the week and I thought I just fancied a banana and there weren't any left, thought oh well, I'll have an apple then. Technically I could have one but then it will be fastest fingers tomorrow of who takes the last one to school!
The best part is I can't really be mad partly because it is not junk food but the house rules for bread, milk and fruit is that we have to make sure there is enough for the morning!
Not sure I will have much time this week for KD as my diary is breaking under the strain... I was actually telling a friend I feel it is Christmas as it just seems never ending. I will be lurking though .Don’t put it down - put it away!
