KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Kittie - I've got the Colour Me Beautiful book too. I've loaned it to many friends in the past. It must have saved me hundreds of pounds and a lot of mistakes with my clothes. As GQ says colour co-ordinating can really make an impact. You don't end up buying clothes that don't suit you and it's so easy not to buy items that don't suit your colouring range!
I'm going to have another cull of my clothes but only because I've still got too many - it is hard as they all give me joySmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I feel like every weekend so far this year, I've "done nothing"that is, stayed at home. I tell people who know about it that I'm doing more kondoing, to everyone else it's tidying and sorting.
Here's the thing- every weekend I've completed my regular household chores earlier and earlier. My last chore is to mop. I used to leave that for mid-week. Then Sunday evening. Today I can mop Sunday lunchtime.
The sink, which used to contain a plastic bowl (which required a good scrub to remove gunk from the base, on occasion:D) is often shiny and clean (although not always) "clean the sink" is no longer on the monthly to-do list. It is clean.
I have a card and stationary drawer, just as I always meant to, but never managed to.
I have more space, less carp on the table, I never run out of hosiery or things to wear. I have holiday clothes stored with the online photo wardrobe so I don't have to get them out to look at them. I have lovely items on display, being used, such as a vase with fairy lights in. Both were in a cupboard waiting until flowers were bought, or it was xmas.
I haven't done much socialising in the past few weekends, however there is plenty of that coming up in the diary. Yet I have organised my possessions and living space to such a degree that the flat almost "runs itself", maintenance will be easy. I'm so so pleased that the time put in to this, already it has benefits for me and will keep on benefitting me:o once I start socialising more, I'll hopefully be mopping on the Saturday, before I even get ready to go out:beer:Jan 20 - NST challenge

I love organising and tidying, it's very therapeutic! But I agree, as I'm kondoing stuff, I'm finding it so much easier to run my day to day life as I'm not hunting for things for ages!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. goingtodoit what a lovely post! Thank you and well done indeed :T
I'll second that!
Once you've kondo'd and set systems in place, things more-or-less run themselves, freeing up time and energy for other pastimes. Good for you.
I've actually been up since 5.30 am, for no better reason than I was wide awake and bored with lying around. Have drunk two pots of tea, read some of a book, ironed and re-hung the bedroom curtains, stripped the bed and run a wash which had just finished, and washed all the windows and the inside and outside of the flat's door. Which included getting a scraper and a bit of white spirit on some antiquitated white tac which was on the glass on the inside, and irritated me every time I saw it.
The scraper was recovered in seconds from the shoebox of like semi-tools and the white spirit lives under the sink (a second bottle lives in the lottie shed). Everything I needed took seconds to drop my hands on, including the old toothbrush I used to clean out some hard-to-reach corners.
The weather's looking a bit iffy - rain pending - so I'll hang fire on heading up to the lottie for now to see if it'll clear out. If not, I have plenty of things down here to amuse and entertain myself with.
Have a good day, lovely peeps. GQ xEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I really want to start Kondo round #2 soon, trying to move things to same locations at the moment as I clean the house.
The first round was successful (approx 50 bags and various pieces of furniture to charity!!!) and it took about three months to do. That was couple of years ago and although I do 'Kondo' some categories as I go at the moment, I want to go through everything again in case some of the items no longer spark joy.I have couple of free weekends end of March, so I guess I know what I will be doing

Thirded! Thats what I'm aiming for, absolutely. It's taking me much longer to catch up on the not-done stuff than I thought it would, but thats just how things are, and I'm working with it.Save
That is where I wish to be too, it seems such a long way off:(, but by taking baby steps when I can I have hope:D:D
KC sorry I did not reply to you comment/query about my garden, I will pop a note on your diary when I have a moment. It is great seeing how much you are able to achieve without crashing these days, you inspire me to (pinching Beanie's phrase) keep plodding. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Goingtodoit, I loved your post, you summed it up perfectly, exactly why we are doing what we do. You have given heart and hope to the beginner kondo`ers and to those of us part way through. Thank you so much
I have a drawer, a drawer in a butchers block that has two shelves below and is mobile. That drawer is a cluttered drawer and I have an hour spare, so will do it right nowI already did the shelves, did them over six months ago and they are still good

So inspiring reading everyones posts. Well I started with great gusto (ish) and then came to a grinding halt. Am going to have a quick clean around for an hour, then 2hrs guitar practice. Then I am going to start on my wardrobe, jeans drawer & scarves. They are the simple ones, (the drawers that is), but will hopefully give me the momentum when I see them clear. I would love to have 'long legs', I'm 5'3 (I think), they are quite short, though they are quite slim, so don't really look dumpy like they used too. Just bought one of them leg master things, it's sat unopened in the lounge. Not sure how I'm going to use it, when I can't even be arsed to open the box. I will open it today and find a place for it - yayyyy - progress, even if it is only in my head. Have a lovely day everyone.0
