  • I haven't been doing a lot of kondoing, but in the last week I put on a top, decided in 3 seconds I didn't like it and it wasn't comfortable, and it went straight in the donate pile, rather than back in the drawer to never be worn.

  • Bumblebeany I've also recently come across twiddle mats and thought what a great way they'd be to use up my stash - and as you say, precision sewing isn't required! I found this link http://www.muoxford.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/activity_quilt.pdf which shows you a way to make them, but I think you could just do your own thing - obviously they need to be washable and very firmly sewn. If anyone has any other links or knows of a charity that takes these in I'd love to know. I've accumulated far too much random fabric and trimmings and I'd love to Kondo it usefully.

    :) Morning all.

Well, I have finished sewing up the handknit blanket and that will leave the flat tomorrow. Have plenty more sections of squares to sew up, enough for another blanket, I reckon, so will start on that asap.

Have also thought about some clothes and a few other bits and bobs which can go at the same time. These are things I'm not using and space is very constrained here, my hanging rail is a whisker under 3ft wide, so I will need to make space on it, come summertime, for the new coat I bought in January.

Feeling optimistic about selling a few bits and bobs at a carboot over Easter weekend (if the weather is kind) but, if they don't find a new home that way, they'll find a new home elsewhere; they're not coming back here.

Am half-way through one of the to-be-reads and then that can leave also, I reckon I've had it on-shelf for over a year waiting to get to it. All library books are back in the library and, apart from a book-club choice or two which I don't have, I shall try to stay outta there until I can get some more of the stuff I own read and shed.

Keep up the good work, everybody. GQ xx

If you have any tops or blouses on hangers you could use a bit of chain or looped strings to hang several things so just one hangar is on the actual rail if you know what I mean. You can buy a fancy schmanzy gadget but looped string or bit of chain would work. It would create more space in the wardrobe.

Just found dds and sil are coming over tomorrow so will be cooking for five. Need to kondo some of the freezer and take out some chicken and mince but will need to slowly visit nearest shop for potatoes and veg. No idea what exactly I am cooking but will make sure it is something that does not involve a lot of standing etc.

Elona - given that you are unwell, maybe you could ask each of your DDs to bring something with them and help with the cooking? They'd hate if you made yourself unwell.

I will do something simple that takes little effort and get them to do the table setting, fetching and carrying when they arrive.

If I make something like cottage pie then I will have something healthy for me for the next day or two as well.

:) Make sure they do the dishes/ load and unload the dishwasher, too, you mustn't overdo it.

The hangers on hangers aren't the best solution because my hanging rail is in a small alcove with some furniture below it (rail is just under ceiling height to maximise the space) and there isn't much of a drop. But the idea may be of assistance to someone else, I shall just manage with the width I have there, it's plenty as most of my clothes aren't the kind which require hanging.

That top which I 'found' was a hit and will see a lot more use, am very pleased with it. Shopping one's own cupboards, what could be more economical?:rotfl:

Have spent a couple of hours this morning in pal's [STRIKE]junk shop[/STRIKE] err the very-reasonably-priced-antiqu(ish) emporium.

I was dealing with the back-room and truffling stuff out from behind furniture. As well as all the usual fluff I found; newspapers from 1995 and 2009, a Le P@rfait preserving jar (minus rubber seal), a Woses sweetie tin minus lid, two £2 coins, one US quarter and a German 5 pfennig piece.

Disappointly, there were no Jif lemons this time, unlike the other weekend when I found one under the sink cupboard.:D

Just having a quick interwebulation whilst drinking my tea, then off to the allotmentino to scrabble around in the good earth for a couple of hours.

Today we managed to Kondo a spare carpet offcut, kept in the loft, for Justin, to my MIL. She had a leak from her downstairs toilet earlier in the week which soaked the carpet. We had some spare bits and found one suitable to cut down and fit. Managed to get a small piece of underlay from a carpet shop for a tenner, job sorted. Pity MIL forgot that the cover she has from British Gas covers things like the leak, and she paid £170 to an emergency plumber...

If you've got elderly relatives who have emergency cover, do please remind them about it, as my MIL went into panic mode, even forgetting she could turn the water off at the stopcock under the sink, spending 4 hours by the loo flushing it so it didn't overflow again.

    Recycled paper and card.
Potted up iris bulbs a friend gave me and disposed of packing.
The bulbs go in a very pretty jug to grow in compost. DH said it wd make a nice milk jug. Oh no it won't! Firstly because, sorry to disillusion you but......., we don't decant milk into a milk jug in this house. Secondly, we don't need or want any more items of kitchenailia in our little house.
I do have a 're-cycling' idea for the jug once the bulbs are over - I shall fill it with something nice and gift it on :)

Resisted unnecessary spending on visit to town :T
and remembered to use my gift voucher in M&S so only £2.45 to pay for my bag full of low carb treats (hot smoked salmon, lemon sole, ham, blue cheese, lamb kofkas, a reduced price chicken thai curry that I shall divide into 2 and freeze, and a few other bits) :D

Right, dinner calls, take care All,

    M
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
