KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Hello all, nearly home from holidays. Just on the last leg now.
We flew to Barcelona for a few days and spent a few more coming back by train (we get VERY discounted - and often free - train travel, even in Europe).
I packed everything for seven days and six nights in a 30l rucksack and, whilst it will be nice to have some different clothes now, I have managed very well. It meant no hold luggage in the plane, and today I have walked round Paris with my rucksack meaning no left luggage or additional journeys to fetch it.
OH and I have also decided to kondo our caravan . It hasn't turned a wheel in a couple of years and we think it is unlikely to for several more. So it's time to thank it profusely for its service and sell it before it dies in storage. If we decide to go back to caravanning in years to come we will get a smaller one which also means a smaller car. It will be sad to see it go but it's time.
The other bonus of so few clothes is very little washing to do - one load should do it for the both of us :TI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Now have the keys to new home and it looks so much bigger without "stuff" in it. Amazing how friends and family say things like, "there'll be plenty of space behind the bed to store things", and "ooh, two lofts, that's great for storage" and the large area under the stairs was also earmarked for storage. I don't think so.
We are both on the same page with clearing out as much as we can before we actually move. We want to keep the lovely light airy feeling that the house has.
On that front, things have ground to a halt for me as there have been so many other things happening. The next 6-8 weeks are going to be very busy and that's without co-ordinating the work to be done on the house, so may not be able to do much Kondoing but will continue to send things on their way as I come across them.
Will be ordering a skip today for the new house which will be a good incentive. May as well fill it before the neighbours do!Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
I kondo`ed a wooden rolling pin, just when I was about to scrape the scone dough off. I have a good silicone pin, so ejected the wooden one with a flourish. A book that I will never read, don`t know why I bought it from cs, violence and gore are not for me. Today I started on my two gals of bio D washing up liquid, which was a bargain at the time :rotfl:and has spent over a year gathering dust. So now I will try to ignore my dishwashing machine and make the effort, must remember to put my rubber gloves on, must get through the four bargain pairs eventually
Still not making much headway in the freezer, fast as I take food out, I put food in but the berries are going down nicely and will be finished before the new ones are ready. It will help me not to order any more milk, I buy non homogenised organic in 500 ml bottles and I think there are 8 in there, that is almost a full drawer. Kefir making is going strong so am using more lately
Ahhh, I just looked out the window and there is a blackbird with twigs in his mouth. Spring is springingand will be noticing the spring cleaning needs soon

Working yesterday though, it was brilliant, I got loads done (for me, anyway). Rested lots too, afterward.I'm having a great day, positively kondo-esque.
.....
My feet are singing little songs (oww! owww! owwwww!), my back aches, my sawing muscles are protesting and I'm grinning from ear-to-ear, it's been such a positive day.
Hope everyone is really enjoying their Sunday activities. When I was reading the reports of the rice/cyanide scare on "trust me I'm a doctor) I was wondering how much protection I get from my alternate day SC ones:DSave2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I know some of us are fans of the Minimalists. I think you might like this fairly new video of Joshua Fields Millburn being interviewed by Lewis Howes.
Thank you for the video link, I found it very interesting and inspiring. I love the idea of putting everything away into storage and seeing exactly what you miss.

Good evening.
I have been reading along for some time, and had been inspired to read the books, but had never quite managed to click myself into action, whether through procrastination or being afraid to start, I am not sure. I have tended to put things in the loft at my mums when I have left home and moved into my OHs house.
However, being someone who seems to work best with a deadline (I wish I wasn't) and having the intention to move not only myself and my OH, but my mum into new houses (one is still to be built) before summer, a deadline has emerged. My stuff is between both houses, and my mum is a definite hoarder (2 drawers and a banana box full of light bulbs for example) so it will be no mean feat to get through as much as I can before we move. I also made up my mind that I would like to feel the sense of lightness and freedom that many of you describe if the move doesn't happen.
So I shall make use of the momentum I feel now and get started.

we moved house almost 6 years ago, and for several years, some boxes remained unpacked, and whilst I didn't necessarily miss the contents, when they were finally unpacked, some thing did spark great joy at being seen again!
I still have a crate of large framed pictures to go up ... but 'apparently' we need to replaster one wall I want to put them on, and we're looking for a large wall dresser for the other wall, and until that is found, 'apparently' can't possibly put any pictures up, in case they are in the wrong place!
however, I'm not sure we need a large wall dresser - but looking at open, empty shelves with maybe the occasional object on could be nice! just need to get DH motivated to get on with these jobs as he has decided they need doing, rather than poodling around doing I don't know what!0 -
