Ah - GQ - good to see you back - I was literally just going to check your profile and see when you were last online as we hadn't heard from you - and there you were! Hope the cold fully clears up soon

Thanks hun, I work outside the home anyway so am only typically around am and pm on weekdays, but work on a PC and just was too tired to sit at a screen when not working.
On the plus side, am really cracking on with my reading.;)Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning kondoers,
The microwave has disappeared from the front presumably the scrapman had it, hopefully the same will happen to the old fridge when that get put there at the weekend.
Someone Dh works with would like our old freezer so I'm going to give that a clean and we'll take it round to him soon.
Almost finished a book that will go in the CS bag, a couple of pairs of religious socks were thanked and sent on their way.
I've got some mending to do that can then be given back to its owners at the weekend.
We are eating mostly from the freezer so using up a lot of things that have been in ther a while.
I hope all are as well as can be.SPC~12 ot 124

MMF007 that's brilliant - memories and experiences, not things! So glad your DH understood
Siebrie - sorry to hear about the tax thing, I understand it will probably come back as a rebate, but it seems ridiculous, and its a pain anyway
GQ - add another one to the "wondering" list, sorry its a cold thats been keeping you away. I live in fear of coming down with something and it setting off another 3 months ill and struggling to cope.
My own stuff - cushions are piling up ready to wing their way out of the house. Expecting a phone call within the next 30 mins or so as to the kondoing arrangements from my house and my sister's house, all to be done via this big van we've hired. Haven't done anything on the laurel for the last two days, just felt too tired with it all, and I *know* I need energy for the actual trip to the tip ...2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I went through coats and jackets today, not to MK but just to get something different to wear as I am going out to the hairdressers and then to an outlet. I have taken one out, I bought it almost 7 years ago from a very `posh` shop in the outlet and very cheap as it had a tear under a toggle. I am good at sewing so put it right with the help of a new strand of leather. Even I cannot see where I fixed it. It is melton and so nice and cost 1/10 of the normal non-outlet price. Trouble is that I have never worn it because my close neighbour appeared in a coat in an identical colour and almost the very same style, so for all this time it has been kept safe in a cupboard and today I am saying s*d it and it is going to be worn and kept handy to wear. I have an awful lot of coats and jackets, several made by me and none will go but I have to take my mindset away from wearing the same comfortable one every time. Sometimes I just want something, that gives me joy, to wear out as I can then remove with a clear mind. I so still have the old mindset of not wasting too much money
The felted top is now dry and is perfect for cutting and making into a bag or container of some sort. It is so firm now that it will stand up by itself and it shrunk down to at least 1/4 of the original size. I may make a container as it is nice and colourful to have on show. I`ll have to have a think as there are also two short stiff arms. Some clothes off to the cs today0 -
Kittie sounds fab, i love the idea of felting but am a bit bothered about bunging up my washer by doing it! Could the arms also be used as containers?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I know that a few of us on here and the hoarding thread watch CBS Hoarders ( it really motivates me to clean). I've found an interview with one of the cleaners that has links to his own posts. Interesting stuff.

Another one trying to kondo a cold.
I thought i'd got away lightly but it seems not. In fact today is worse than ever.
Did kondo a book this morning lazing in bed but about to attempt some work. i am working at home so if I can't, I can't. Was going hedge-laying at the weekend, I'm thinking i will have to kondo that.
aaaaaaccchoooooooooI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
HI Everyone,
Well its a lovely fresh day up here, if a little chilly (all the cars are still frozen!) and I am hoping to Kondo my lazy ways Iv'e fallen into and go for a jog at lunchtimewill likely be mostly walking, but its the getting out the door that will make a difference! Haven't been able (health and time wise) to get back into running since having toddler, and I have realised I am really missing it. Not just the exercise, but the time to myself. Right, now I've put it in writing, I HAVE to go do it now - no excuses!!!
With regards to the house, its slowly getting there. Hubby went and bought a heap of those useful boxes, with the intention of storing and organising the loft. Glad he's getting on board though I think its a bit early for buying storage, but they wont go wrong.
I haven't quite sorted out the bit in the kitchen where all the daily stuff gets dumped. letters, keys, receipts, etc. Hubby came home yesterday whilst I was just finishing cleaning the kitchen, and goes, 'kitchen's looking great...tho what would Marie say about that' *pointing to the aforementioned area, with a wry smile* :rotfl:Mortgage debt : -£17,000

Afternoon all.
Feeling a bit guilty about not popping in to say hi as my absence was noted. Feeling very very rrrrrrruuuuuuffffffffffff today and coughing like a veteran smoker, and there's me who's never even had one ciggie in her life. Sorry to hear you're one of the poorlies, too, VJsMum. Hope you get better soon.
Ne'mind, all things pass.
OS QS, the area in a home to receive the keys, post, random flotsam etc, sometimes gets referred to as a 'landing strip' and there are various ways of handling this which don't involve co-opting a kitchen counter which has to be termed prime real estate in most homes.
You might like to glance at these options to see if there's any inspiration: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/search?q=landing+strip
I was wondering randomly (well, I was wandering randomly and wondering at the same time) around a shop which featured lots of storage options.
What point do people think that we became unable to contain our goods and chattels in modest furniture and cupboards and found it necessary to invest in what the great Don Aslett termed 'junk bunkers'? By which I mean the endless arrays of receptacles in seemingly endless combinations of card, plastic, wicker, timber etc etc?
I can recall growing up and stuff went into furniture and one modest size blanket box. No endless arrays of 'storage'.
What exactly are we storing? And why? In the interests of demonstrating I'm no angel in this respect, I'll confess first.
I store; extra food, emergency supplies, yarn, fabric and sewing supplies and about 6 months' worth of reading materials. I am also 10 mins' walk from a large lending library which is open seven days a week.
I store things in baskets, in shoeboxes, in small cardboard boxes and occasionally bigger cardboard boxes, in glass jars and in L& L boxes. I store things in bags for life and cotton bags and zipped pouches and ... and.... I best stop there, I'm embarrassing myself.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Good question, GQ (hope you soon feeling better, by the way). I just don't think we had so much Stuff - I grew up in a very untidy house that was filled with books, but as you say, clothes (mostly) lived in drawers and wardrobes, and other stuff went in cupboards.
It's just a huge and very successful marketing ploy in my view, after all we have all fallen for the idea in the past that we don't need to get rid of Stuff, we just need to sort/organise/store it better. I think the storage thing got really big in the 1980s as consumption of goods increased and houses got smaller.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0
