Lots of supermarkets (Sainsbury's, M&S etc) have card recycling bins. They also collect wrapping paper. The bins are sponsored by the Woodland Trust, and for every 1,000 cards collected a tree is planted.
Positive recycling.😇😇😇😇😇

I save birthday etc cards through the year for this - in a small bag on the inside of the understair walk in cupboard door. The 2016 cards are ready to go tomorrowI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

! I've resolved that this will be the last year of a real tree as I'm heartily fed up with needles. I've made a note to self to look out for a good artificial one when they come into the shops. Best thing is that, having cleared out an under stairs cupboard, the decorations are going to be stored there rather than in the loft so will be far more accessiblQUOTE]
I had to come on here as I have done something very similar, due to changed circumstances. I bought a wooden scandinavian tree this year, basically dowels and a star on a base. Then I filled it with glittery and hm ornaments and put a few things around the base. It has been stunning and far exceeded my expectations. It has all packed away into a very thin box, held together with rubber bands and everything has gone easily into a single bed base storage area. I can no longer cope with difficult storage. It was a fab decision
Anything I have MK has stayed neat and sorted, need to do more though
Where did you get the Scandi tree from Kittie?Must use my stash up!0 -
Like the idea of a wooden tree but would rather not have any if and when I have to give up a real one!! I love them and I guess its the type, where you get them from, how you treat them once in the home - think I must have only picked a dozen needles this year.
I haven't made any KM type resolutions( intentions) for this year as I am just going to plod on as I have so far. I have cracked a niggly health issue and this has now helped with motivation and energy so I 'intend' to have a super KM yearOnly time will tell I guess....... I am certainly no longer 'burdened' by the proliferation and accumulation of 'stuff' as I know how and why it got there. I also know how to dispose of it sensibly and responsibly and to get some of the money back that has been spent on it
One thing we will be doing this year is no longer using single use cups and plastic bottles - its rare we do anyway as we cannot stand the carp served up in chain coffee shops - sorry to those for those who do! We will also be refusing straws in drinks and as we use ear buds in this family I will be reverting to ones with cardboard sticks.......we are on an anti plastic pollution kick this year and hope it will last from now on!! We live on the coast with some of the most stunning marine habitats on our doorstep which are being ruined by plastic pollution - check out 2minutebeachclean. Its a habit I am going to develop this year - I dabbled last year but am a little bit more focused now - so I will be kondoing beaches of the plastic carp as well as decluttering my own home this year - gets me out of the house too;):rotfl:Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Oh dear, the problems with my phone continue. Neighbour came round this morning to point out that we have water pouring out of the top of the plastic pipe where the new wire is coming out of the ground at the side of the house. The sun was shining on it and it just caught her eye which was lucky. We had a lot of rain yesterday.
The lady at the BT chairman's office will be getting a call tomorrow. OH took a video of it on his phone so I will email that if necessary.Make £2025 in 2025

Work for me today. I put everything ready last night so there was no panic this morning (it's only taken me 30 working years to realise that is such a stress-buster  !).
My first client, for my home-help services, has bought into MK ideas and I have happily kondo folded her clothes and linens for ages. After wishing each other a happy new year she immediately rounded up some nearly empty plastic cosmetic tubes and tubs and asked me to wash them ready for recycling - when I first met her she wouldn't let any items go, because she was keeping them for Justin, so this is a big change! Then she showed me a bag in which she was gathering stuff for CS. Again, a big change in mindset. Perhaps I should be charging as an MK-style tidying consultant?!
Good luck to everyone who is back at work tomorrow and best wishes to everyone that has been working through the 'holiday period',
MI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
New pantry is almost stocked and I was able to cull out a box of things we don't and won't eat/drink.
Lavender tea? Yuck Vanilla tea? Yuck
The good news is DD1 wants some of my Christmas decs as the family will be gathering at her house now. She wants Quoye to have great traditions and memories in their home. I'm so happy, after 42 yrs of having Christmas every year, that it is no longer my responsibility!! Happy to kondo that event!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

So the Xmas decoration are virtually down and away. I was going to go through the cards but I was honest enough with myself to realise that despite good intentions I have never reused them etc. so they went straight to recycle.
Really want to tackle DD2 room today. Should only take about one hour maximum as it is mainly bits that need putting back in place and keepsakes putting away. I will also swiftly do my room and check dd1 is still on top of hers.
My tasks this week are to get rid of the bags for the homeless thing from before Xmas Despite best effort friend and me where never free at same time], sort DD2 bday family tea which should be good with no oven[!] and to work out what to do with the ebay stuff that didn't sell before Xmas including some Lego. I can then decide my KD plan of action!Don’t put it down - put it away!

Belated Happy New Year to the new and the regulars.
Settled in to the new home now. The move was easy and stress free. The house is looking ok.
OH is back at work today, so I will be able to potter around sorting, tidying, and generally putting things to rights. Having him around as been lovely but I hav'nt been able to do things my way having him hovering over my shoulder all the time.
I have some furniture to move around and a bed to get rid of. A couple of the cupboards need a tidy up. A few bit and bobs need homes.
Other than that I have a new kitchen to plan out and the new bathroom ceiling to paint.
The most exciting thing( drum roll) is I'm getting a She-Shed of my very own. Sad I know.

People of the Kondo thread - I have failed.
Started wonderfully gung ho but stopped after part of the clothes. Serious anxiety & issues @ work - honestly.
But now I will start again.
Knickers & socks are still perfect & DH loves the arrangement (incidentally - he has 70 pairs of socks )
I intend to have a clothes purge next weekend when DH is at work - but there is an ulterior motive....
We're both really, really fed up and are at the stage we just want to sell up & booger off. So Kondoing will be perfect for this process.
I'm heading off into the spare room shortly to tidy it up so there is no guilt in enjoying Kondoing next weekend - and yes, there is an open charity bag that is being added to as I go
But - I have 2 rather random questions.... can anyone help?
Shredder - I need one - can anyone recommend one? There are many papers to be shredded once I get to that category & I have Amazon money available - all suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
Northern Cyprus (I did say random) - I'm sure there is a poster from N Cyprus on one of the threads I read but I can't remember her name - I think she only moved out there in the last year or so. Does anyone know wqho she is?
Anyway - enough for now - I'm heading into the spare room - please send help if I'm not out by 6pm.
