KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

My mother kept Pride and Prejudice cos she "wanted to read it one more time before I die".
She then got superstitious about reading it, in case it meant she died.
Then she did die - and hadn't re read it.....
Back to Iqueen's "do it, do it now because tomorrow might be too late".I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I do have a pack of authors whom I buy paperbacks to re-read, non-keepers tend to appear on my kindle or are picked up at cs & re-donated when read.
We're sorted for Christmas - visiting DH's brothers (one for DHs birthday, one for Christmas as they are each 250 miles away in opposite directions!). Home for new year, with possibly Ds2 & DiL. Then we are having "Christmas" in February with our family, as Ds1 works in-between & doesn't drive, and Ds2 has his inlaws as well as his dad's families to visit.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

On the combined theme of xmas and kondo-ing - I have Kondo'd a client to Aus for xmas. Her offspring are medics and working xmas so told her she is not going to stay with them (down sarf) because there will be no-one to look after her for long and unpredictable periods of time.
As soon as I mentioned visitng my rellies she said, 'well DD can't have me and you are away so I'll have to see if Aus rellies will accommodate me'.
My first thought was OMG she was actually going to ask to come to my house for xmas day  Now while I do care greatly for my clients I am not prepared to share an entire xmas day with them!!
I know I sound terrible but I have DH to consider as well as my family and even though DH is kind, caring and does put himself out to help others he will not put up with, how shall I put this, a cantankerous non-rellie!
Random kondo-ing seems to be my thing on a friday morning! Inspired by Floss I sorted bras out this morning. Weight loss led to several being released and one that now fits is not right somehow so that's on its way out the door too. Also a lovely jumper that survived 2 previous culls because the fabric is gorgeous and I love the colour is now in CS bag because it does not suit me. I put it on this morning just to do the joy test and it failed. OUT YOU GO!
DH has also released a pair of way-too-big slippers I had no idea he'd kept. Great quality, think must have been a gift from his mum, who should know his shoe size (?). In CS bag.
Another cookbook also culled, was just 'teatime treats' of a carb busting nature.
Oh I do love Fridays! :rotfl: :T

My new jumper lasted one day and went straight into the CS bag.
It ticked all the boxes as to colour, shape , fabric etc and looked great on the hanger. Unfortunately the sleeves kept creeping up my arms and the neck seemed to slip towards one shoulder. It was annoying me by lunchtime and I almost went to bed early so that I could take it off. It didn't spark any joy at all - no wonder it was on a sale rail!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Good move luxor4t!
My 4.5 y.o. niece tried on her new Frozen costume and before she had even made it down stairs was heard to say, "Mummy, we can take this to the charity shop, it's too scratchy." :rotfl:
recipe for low carb chochy biscuits:
100g almond flour (just more finely milled grounds almonds,)
35g softened butter
1 egg white (if some egg yolk gets in there too just ignore it, this is not a meringue!)
2 level tablespoons of granular sweetener
1 small teaspoon of vanilla extract,,or less if preferred
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
1 level teaspoon mixed spice
optional toppings to put on before baking - flaked almonds, grated orange peel, dark choc drops
soften butter in a bowl, add almonds, add all other ingredients and mix well
spray a baking sheet with oil or line with parchment paper, or use silicone non stick sheet
divide mixture into 8 good sized pieces, or more if you can bear smaller bickies !?
Squish flat in a 3 - 2 - -3 pattern on tray.
Add toppings if desired.
bake on gas 4, 180C for about 15 mins (I often add a few mins for a really crisp biscuit).
When you take the tray from the oven let them cool for 5 mins then carefully transfer to cooling rack. At this stage they are delicate but knce cooled they are easy to handle.
Once cool store in airtight container.
For a delish treat, heat one in micro for about 25 secs with a grating of dark choc on top. They
crisp up and the choc melts. Num, num, num :TI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Tried on a really nice lemon slash neck jumper that's been hanging up for a few years u worn. The fabric is lovely, the style is great but it shows my white bra through it. I know it will be one of those things that you try on and then take off for something else so it's going to the CS. I've also taken GQ's advice about a CS bag on the go - once stuff goes in there it's out of sight and never retrieved.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Managed to finish another paperback this morning the girls by Lisa Jewel, I like her style of writing but this one was a bit darker than usual. Couldn't put it down as I wanted to know what had happened -it was one of those that starts 3/4 n goes back six months to fill in upto that point then go on to tie up loose ends. Good read but slightly out of my comfort zone as to where I thought the story would end up.SPC~12 ot 124

Today I have been kondoing paper from my office, having been inspired by some hoarding programme on C4 around lunchtime!
I've decided there's too much furniture in here, CoD, 2 door cupboard, 4 drawer filing cabinet, 2 drawer filing cabinet with the front hanging off slightly, 3 x 2 drawer bedside cabinets (don't ask) plus my very large desk and 2 office chairs. I've decided to see if I can get rid of the CoD for a start. I've managed to clear the stuff off the top in the main, and have got rid of one out of three drawer's worth, but other stuff needs to be relocated. I think I can probably make enough space in the 2 door cupboard if I can slim down the paperwork in there. I've just spent an hour or so shredding about a thousand invoices from 2008 & 2009. I stopped keeping hard copy of invoices I send out about 4 years ago and only have pdfs on the computer still, but I can see from the files I've got about 3 times the amount I've shredded still to go. Plus there are older invoices in the house to get rid of but that requires a trip to the loft. If I can get rid of the invoices I can rationalise some accompanying paperwork into far fewer folders and make some space to move the stuff from the CoD, hopefully.
I've had to stop now, don't want to bust the shredder plus I've already filled 5 boxes, the sort you get 5 reams of paper in, with the output. Still, it's a start, I must ensure I continueMake £2025 in 2025
