KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

So much has happened in peoples' lives and so glad KD is still going strong. I think seeing others having similar dilemmas and issues to deal with helps keep me strong!
After just selling a job lot of car boot stuff for peanuts on eBay I had a very brief 'I paid good money for that' moment but looking at the cost of having a car boot sale, what I would have sold them for and the time, I think I have done alright really. All the items were used as required and now are surplus e.g. boots that are too small, read books. They were just taking up space and gathering dust. The better and positive feeling of lightness in getting it out of the house is so great and i hope they come today which would be even better!
Edit: Been and gone. woo hoo! The guy did say he thinks he got a bargain and thought i would refuse to sell. he took my point about stall cost etc versus what i had though.
I have just given the pine shelves a glance over. At least one shelf is stuff for craft fairs/xmas. On the top is paperwork etc that came whilst we were away. So i think it is time to tackle some more random KD areas to fit round the girls clubs. My sis has dropped some clothes off for cash for clothing so tomorrow we will have a quick look through our wardrobes ready for me to take it one Monday. It should be quick as it is a revisit!
Right washing, here i come!!Don’t put it down - put it away!

If you put one of the duvets under the bottom sheet of your bed it will make it cosier and softer, The other one could be turned into a lap quilt that folds into a cushion if you like the idea.
Once dd and sil come to lunch tomorrow I can kondo three large boxes for them that are in the kitchen. I stubbed my toe on them last night and found out this morning it was bleeding and bruised so
trying to not walk around much today and let it heal."This site is addictive!"

I'm so glad I'm not the only one - Tess of the D'Urbervilles is another I gave up on, along with Wild Swans
Wild Swans is that the one about China? If so I returned that to my mum half read! I no longer force myself to read anything that I'm not enjoying; life's too short and so many good reads. VJ's mum that's sad about your mum, no wonder you're reading a book a month. I'm reading 1 a week; (4 a month roughly), mostly from library or from MIL. Last week I bought a Psychologies magazine and 'The Light Between Oceans' both devoured and passed on to a friend today. Welcome back to all lurkers. :T nice to have you along for the ride. I think this KM train is like Groundhog Day in which of course he learnt to appreciate life which is a joy sparking on a grand scale ( or is it a small one).
Had a poorly tummy for 2 days, unlike me and took two days off work. Still feel wobbly so may be rambling but have enjoyed reading posts.
Small KM's: popped seeds from allotment tin into my wooden box, pair of holy socks, leggings with a run, and my lovely old F*t F**e top to textile bank:(Trying to be happy because they have all been loved, and worn. Except for leggings, they weren't very old but I only discovered the run because I now fold them and they stand in a small COD in my wardrobe under blouses. Imagine if I'd missed that and bare, winter flesh was exposed:eek: Also this morning I Kondoed my breakfast mug which I chipped as I got out of dishwasher. Can't tell you how many times I've had tea from this mug. DH has 'his' and I had 'hers'. They are just perfect if a little naff to onlookers. Thinner ceramic, perfect weight, large handle, not too wide at the top so tea cools down too quick and found in Quality Direct shop;) so not too expensive. They could be 10 years old. I need to man up, thank it for its service and smash it into crocks for the bottom of my pots don't I? Elona, thanks for the inspiration. I have a fleecy blanket that goes over my knees some evenings (I sit near a large inglenook fireplace which is a big cold hole when the woodburner sn't lit!) and putting it neatly away is slightly problematic. You have made me realise that I could stuff it into a beautiful cushion cover that has no filling in it atm and so resides unseen in bottom of wardrobe. Win win :T
Kondo'd 2 mice from loft. Suspect there may be more.....peanut butter deployed to tempt them into humane traps (DH is in charge of releasing!).
Have done meal plans for the weekend followng a proper stock take!
I feel drawn to re-kondo lounge but DH is only at baby steps stage so have to be careful not to scare him back to inaction. Softly, softly an' all that.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Wow - things move fast here - not checking for a day means a lot to catch upon!!
Been to chub club this morning and managed to kondo another 2lbs this weekMeals for the week ahead all planned now, so hopefully will be another good week for me.
Car is all packed up with stuff for the car boot sale - as it's indoors at a leisure centre I can go and set up just before they close this afternoon and then just rock up there in the morning. Of course part of me is a bit wary about leaving stuff overnight, but the thought of not having to set it all up in the morning won me over!! I've now got a load of baking stuff (lots of Christmassy biscuit cutters, tree cake tins etc), a load of Christmas decs - many still in boxes, cushions and fabric that I've bought and never used, some walking boots and shoes that just don't like me, quite a few craft items that I've accepted I'll never do anything with, a load of old cables and scart leads that were hiding in a drawer - given everything I have is plugged in and cabled up correctly I reckon these things have been breeding. So hopefully I'll not be bringing everything home again tomorrow....! Already agreed with Mum that we'll do another one in a couple of weeks, so I think she'll be adding to the stash too - I may leave stuff in the folks garage in preparation as we'll have to use one of their cars - my little car is stuffed right now, and once I add a load more stuff in the next couple of weeks it won't be big enough! It does make me think how many car loads of stuff I've managed to bring into the place though.... One car load hasn't even scratched the surface!
Gained a top yesterday from the parental home - it's now too big for my Mum (she's now lost 3 stone after I encouraged her to join her own chub club a few weeks after I started). It's a slightly sparkly silver jumper and fits really well, but I'm not quite sure about it - will try it on with a couple of different things and see if it works or not. I allowed it to come home with me since I shifted 3 items their way last week - 2 of which are now being worn, the 3rd having gone to the CS.
Enjoy the weekend all and hope you manage to get out and enjoy some of the lovely autumn weather - It's such a beautiful (if chilly) day here!0 -
le crueset fondue set, both of which have never been used as long as I've known DH. The LC one is attic-room bound, for DS2 to remove when they have a larger than postage-stamp kitchen.
Used my LC fondue set last night! Brings me great joy - OH bought it in the mid 80's when we were young and penniless - I gave him such a ahrd time for the 'frivolous' purchase - but we have used it lots since:D. Often have a Friday Fondue night with Fabulous Female Friends.............:rotfl:
NOt a lot of kondoing on today except a lot of time doing nothing except read - think I needed a bit of down time - and tonight it will be a few sparklers at a local organised event. My favourite celebration. Sounds as if you'll have to burrow through it and make a nest...

Lawdy-lawdy, is the parental home in a muddle. Dad is now fretting that not all the things will fit in their car. I am, of course, a GrandMistress of the Art of Tetris, and can pack like a demon, so he may be surprised.
Mum and I (she sat watching and decicion-making whilst I did the lifting etc) and we sorted out two shelves of her pantry (skinny narrow cupboard, not a walk-on kind) where the crockery lives.
It was a hell hole of jumbled crocks and plastics including (brace for spitting up over your keyboard) 8 mummified satsumas.
I kid thee not.At some unspecified point in the past, they had been stood individually on the shelf, presumably to benefit from the coolth through the air vents, and then forgotten. Some had hardened and the insides had disappeared, so they were brittle and light, some had done this and also grown a coat of powdery mildew. Fascinating. :rotfl:
We had everything off those two shelves for a good clean, then there was a mahoosive de-junking which involved mucho platery and bowlery being freshly washed and wrapped and boxed for donation. A lot of the single use plastics like marg tubs which had crept in there were chivvied outside into the recycling bin where they should have been sent when first emptied.
The result is a cupboard where you can see EVERYTHING and reach EVERYTHING and Mum is like a kid with a new toy, keeps peeping at it. I told her, in portentous movie-announcer tones that, one day, all her cupboards could be this way.:cool:We still have Stuff every which way, Stuff for me, Stuff for chazzers, Stuff for freeglers, Stuff for recycling, Stuff for consideration, including a photo of my Dad's cousin (died at 16 in 1948) which came from Nan's. Plus a gathering of men working on some random piece of agricultural equipment about 70-odd years ago. Who, when, why we had it framed have yet to be determined.
Gotta go, am getting a telling-off for leaving the kitchen all over Stuff when we need to lay the table.:p:D:oEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Charly yes, that's the one!
DH and I had a good KM session at the lottie today - one raspberry thicket had all the old canes cut right down, the sweet peas were pulled out, DH to rid of the old scrap wood onto a (permitted) bonfire, I picked the first calabrese, some rosemary and the last rasps, and DH dumped the spent grain from his brewing into the compost bins. Now enjoying a bottle of 2014 allotment apple wine watching the rugby, before making l/o risotto into arancini for tea2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
