    Speky great news!

Grey Queen, we have a Meaco dehumidifier and it's fantastic. But they are not cheap. (However I know you go by the maxim of buy cheap buy twice). Ours is fairly big because we have big (damp) Victorian rooms. Sorry, I'm not sure if they do compact versions, but I can recommend the brand
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I'm back online after almost 3 weeks of family time, which has been lovely, but I missed my mse fix, especially KM :)

I was just going to catch up a day or so at the moment, but had to go back a few days more, to read GQ's post about her Nan. My heart goes out to you, GQ, to you, your Nan, and your family too.

    =================

In staying with my mum, I've been helping her declutter a bit - nothing like GQ's efforts with *her* mum, even if I couldn't be as thorough as I wanted. But with very little effort, we cleared half a double wardrobe - it needs to be clear because my brother is staying to look after her right now, she's really unwell. So we managed to get my brother's clothes into a wardrobe, rather than on hangars around the room, which feels very unpleasant.

A few other random bits too - an answerphone, a few handbags, some of my brother's shirts. Charity shops in the northwest of England are happy.

  • Bit of a tenuous mins game list

    Day 26/27/28/29/30
Broken wm drum collected by scrap man
    Broken glass bottle bank
    Broken necklace bin
4 rolls rubbish masking tape bin
Handful of old Christmas cards fell behind bookcase
    Quiz sheet handed in
3 new pencils school treat box
Carrier bag full of dyson accessories/filters/belts given to mil
    Skirt clothes bank
    T shirt clothes bank
Cot sheet given to dd3 to make cape for fancy dress scarecrow at work
Carrier bag full of bits for school
Another stack of scratched CDs school craft box
Carrier bag containing at least 70 plastic milk bottle tops - given to charity
Table tennis ball given to school

I will count this as me lurching to the finish on the mins game and completing the month as lots of things I did by the bag full or handful rather than counting them as individual items so more than the required amount actually left the house. But I feel it was a success as loads left over the month that wouldn't have gone if I hadn't played.

Hope everyone is well and the weekend will bring as much joy as it can for you all.

    Well done Mrs MP

I am lurching towards handing in my thesis proposal. It is going in tonight, in the words of TOny Bliar "whatever". The deadline is tomorrow but i am not wasting any more weekend time fiddling....

min's game to be continued in October - starting at day #23
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • I'm going to see how I get on with the mins game in October.

While my flat is pretty organised, things are gathering in the bookcase again, kitchen cupboard, hall cupboard, wardrobe, ... not sure where it comes from!

Today I kondo'd another year! Been out all day having birthday treats!! :D

All presents are JUST WHAT I WANTED :D Flowers, Alan Bennett's talking heads CDs, oven gloves (old ones thrown already), several gift cards, some fab hand cream and some bird feeders. I feel very fortunate.

Off to visit family tomorrow then the rest of backbedroom excavation to do on Sunday. A busy but joyous weekend lined up.

The MK magic worked - I went into several shops but nothing sparked joy so nothing purchased. I have plenty of time to find Just the right thing (is that Justin Case's brother, do you think??)

    M

PS - great news Speky!! :T
PPS - Welcome back Karmacat :hello:

:) Happy Birthday, MMF007 and congratulation to Speky for becoming debt-free.

Nice to see you again, Karmakat. Hope retirement is suiting you nicely.

Been busy at w*rk and then whizzed up to the allotment for about 30 mnutes, just busted up an overgrown area of grass with the mattock. Have left the clods drying out.

I'm gleeful because tomorrow the allotment burn-ban is off and I can, subject to reasonably dry weather and the correct direction of the wind (i.e away from the houses and across the common, not vice-versa), indulge my primal love of flame. Yippee!

Nan is still slipping quietly away from us. It's sad, but it is the end of a long and mostly-happy life, one lived surrounded by family and friends, and it's time.

Discussions are being held regarding the disposition of household goods and chattels, humble bits of furniture, pots and pans etc. This isn't a household containing things which could be filed under valuables, but there are things which will be of use to the family and which are going to be shared out and absorbed into other households.

There will be some things which are no good to man nor beast, such as an old COD which has been discovered to be badly worm-eaten so that will be one for the eventual skip.

Mum & Dad will go to Nan's bungalow at the weekend to cut the grass etc, and keep the outside of the place presentable, then on to visit with Nan, although she is sleeping nearly all the time and barely knows her visitors are there anymore.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Mmf007, 'just the right thing' can become a hindrance, for instance when te original not-so-good one is falling apart, and this time you want to get it right, but just cannot find it......

We will start packing for dh this weekend; he is leaving for his African mother country in a fortnight and can take 2 x 23kg in hold luggage. That should clear quite a lot of stuff from the attic! Also found in the attic: two new children's books that dd2 will give as birthday gifts to classmates this weekend.

We are slowly emptying the freezer: 'ingredients' are taken out and 'meals' are returned in single portions that will leave for lunches or speedy dinners. Not much other kondoing going on, I am just too tired. Keep up the good work, everyone; I love reading along!

I think "Just the right thing" and Just can't find it" are Justin Case's troublesome twin nephews.. :)

No kondoing this weekend, unless you count beer at a beer festival tomorrow, and calories walking with my BF and her springer spaniel on Sunday!
