KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up
Comments

Oh that's a good point, - I wonder if KonMari has advice on how to tidy up what's on your computer!
I thought about this as I was reading the book, expecting to see a chapter on it.
I would recon it's equally as important to keep your electronic files in order for numerous reasons. I once worked with a guy who's computer desktop was full (and I mean full) of files/programs/folders  Everyone in the office tried to encourage him to clean it up for his own sake but he said he knew were everything was an it was an organised mess.
An excellent metaphor for the KonMarie method is a thing I know very little about, defragmentation. It's definitiion below;
In the maintenance of file systems, defragmentation is a process that reduces the amount of fragmentation. It does this by physically organising the contents of the mass storage device used to store files into the smallest number of contiguous regions (fragments).
Once your device has been defragmented, it runs smoother and quicker. A bit like our lives should once we KonMarie our homes.
With that in mind, I think it's an excellent idea to keep your computer in order to make things easier and more efficient.0 -

I have a rule that if I'm home and looking at my emails about 5 times a day which is a silly habit in itself, then I must do some deleting each and every time. My email account now resembles something vaguely normal instead of a 12 year collection of everything ever received. :rotfl:
I don't really 'do' photos, so have none on the pc to delete. There are a few on my phone and that's it.
I now have an appointment on the sofa with a bank file...“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
I'm having a ponder about waste and wastefulness and my rather dippy emotional responses.
I went on holiday with 2 small tubes of toothpaste, reasoning that we would probably finish one ( that could then be chucked), and might have to start a second.
By the last few days of the holiday I had cut open the first tube to get the dregs out. I normally do this at home for everything in tube packaging ( amazing how much is left inside sometimes!) On the last morning there was about one portion left, maybe a tad more. And I was considering sellotaping the tube altogether again and bringing it home. For the sake of one squirt of toothpaste that could have easily made a gunky mess.
Why?why?why? I had to force myself to put the tube in the bin. Something that I had planned to do before I went on holiday.
What the hell is wrong with me??? I absolutely hate water. It is a full on physical- emotional reaction. Crazy.
Please tell me that I'm not the only one this crazy.0 -
It could be worse, Fen...
A friend of my mother's once asked me to excuse the trousers she was wearing, saying that she hated them but was determined to 'wear them out' before starting on her newer clothes... I had to smile, as I reckoned they had at least another decade left!“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
I also get really narked with autocorrect. Waste not water. Grrrr:mad::mad:
I'm currently, half-heartedly, must try harder, attempting to leave one forkful of food on my plate. I do not need to eat the last pea/carrot/mushroom. I'm doing it both as an attempt at portion/hunger control and at tackling my waste issues.
My body is not a bin.....my suitcase is not a bin....my home is not a bin.....0 -
Ha,ha, Fen, I thought you maybe wanted your drinks neat!
kondo'd 2 carrier bags of rags to recycling at local 'tip'. I noticed yester that there was a specific container for them so I rounded up the excess
(MIL insists on passing on millions to us 'Justin' DH can use them. What makes it worse, she cuts towels up so they just fray as soon as you look at them,).
Anyway, I had a little word with DH about the max number of rags that were necessary at any one time and wrangled the rest into the car quick! Result.
Work today included cleaning out a fridge, cleaning an oven, mending a garden swing seat, picking fruit, cleaning 2 massive patio windows and doing 2 shopping trips and a few other domestic chores. Before work I made the soup for elderly neighbour and took it round in a flask so it would be hot for her at lunchtime. Am a bit tired......
Not kondo-ing, I know, but boy was I glad I had kondo-sorted my work supplies and my a small toolkit!!

Have treated myself to fresh crab for my low carb dinner, as it was 22C this afto so salad seems OK!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
I definitely like my drinks neat, or at least nicely layered in a cocktail🍹🍹🍹0

quick tip if you're struggling to get stuff out of the house to charity shops: download the GoneForGood app.
You submit a photo of your donations, chose a local charity from the ones available, give a few more details & then if your charity accepts your donations they'll contact you. If they decline, it'll then be offered to other local charities who will ring you to arrange collection.
Worked brilliantly for me this week!Anchor yourself to the foundations of everything you love.
Thank you to all those who post competitions!:beer:0 -
My body is not a bin.....my suitcase is not a bin....my home is not a bin.....
Several years ago on holiday, I was at the dinner table with a bunch of friends-for-the-day and struggling to finish what was on my plate, so I wouldn't be 'wasteful'.
One of them, a lady about a generation older than me, said something I'll never forget, said it kindly and thoughtfully; Do you see your body as an alternative to a dustbin?
It really set me back on my heels. Better not to have taken too much food onto my plate in the first place, but to make myself so stuffed that I ended up with indigestion and would be awake all night just to 'save' some morsel of food? Not good.
Grinning about the holiday toothpaste story. Not out of mockery but out of recognition. I have done not dissimilar things. And have ruined something like a garment or a bag lining through holding onto something which spilled into a bag or a pocket, something which was worth fractions of a penny but which caused a loss of many £££ and/ or damage to a treasured item. Madness, isn't it?
Flat's driving me potty atm due to the cupboard contents being in bags and a plastic crate on the floor. Did some proper cooking tonight and it was a rummage for the chili powder and the kidney beans. I will go tidy that lot through again in a minute.
Party wall-o-damp is still moist to the touch depsite the cupboards being emptied and their doors open 24/7. Gonna take a while to sort this one out, plus there is some new mould growing. It's orange, fgs.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
