Am I right in thinking that your family have the pleasure of your company for a whole week GQ? Good luck ;)
:p I wouldn't be so cruel as to subject them to a whole week of my company. Sat evening to Friday first thing then I'm back to the big city. Got a wicker basket to re-home and a lot of gardening to do.

The burning season starts on 1st October. I need to ready my raw materials for the great annual burn on the allotment. Last year it was superb, the flames were *this* high and almost smokeless, it was such a fast and ferocious burn up. And lovely potash to turn under the soil a couple of days later when it's cooled.

Hope your business trip goes well. I'm heading offline to do some reading in dead tree format then to bed. Last night, just after 10 pm, Dad had to capture another monster huge spider from this bedroom, it was only about 4 inches from my pillow - ugh.

Dahlings, it was so big he had to corner it lion-tamer style with a chair and whip. He put it in the front garden, as it was raining and he didn't want to take it too far - I'd've liked it to have gone to the end of the road at least, have you seen how fast those beggars can run?!

It's probably back indoors now and sneaking back upstairs!

  • Thanks Serendipitous (how apt your username is right now) and A Frayed Knot for your wise words!

Bedroom is cleared out and and I've purchased painting supplies today. Made a start on prep- masking tape is out in force and fittings removed.
Shifitng furniture has general stuff has identifed a few more items for the CS pile. Will have to make another trip soon.

Sounds like you've all had very productive weekends, hope you all have great weeks!

Enjoy your trip to the castle GQ. Careful you don't get stuck in the oubliette for GBH with a selfie stick! It's outside peak holiday season so hopefully not too many pouting posers :D

I take occasional photos, but I'm trying to be more careful about what I capture, rather than endless random shots. The move to digital has made us a lot less careful about the pictures we take because we aren't limited to the capacity of a roll of film.
I plan to ask for a digital picture frame for Christmas and fill with a selection of pictures important to me. Got the idea from one of The Minimalists' podcasts.

Oh photos lovely photos ! Sang to the tune of children's programme Bertha:rotfl:
I kondoed mine and it took forever! I try not to take them anymore I agree with you grey queen you take loads then get bogged down with them. I was put out when last year dh bought me a many fangled v.expensive camera for my birthday! ! I hadn't the heart to tell him I wouldn't be using it. I know,I know ::o
Anyway I'm sooo excited we've finally got round to contacting cats protection about getting a kitten, our last one died 6 years ago age 17 ,and are only just ready to re home a rescued one. So he will arrive next month:j so although I'm still kondoing (2 bags out for charity collection tomorrow ) I have had a splurge on kitty stuff so we are all prepared. To be honest I'm having to look extra closely to remove anything which may get knocked over or harm kitty, in a bid to clear the wires on TV I got rid of a scart wire and tidied dgs wii into the drawer beneath the tv.as he rarely uses it, I'm looking for 1 of those tubes that sit over the wires to keep the neat and reduce the chance of kitty attacking them!

    Morning all :D
Some great stories brings back loads of memories for me i.e the too big uniform :rotfl:We were made to kneel on the floor to make sure our pe skirts were 1" from the floor :o If they were not the letter went home :rotfl:
We went for another long walk of over 9 miles yesterday was longer as we got lost less than 1.5 miles from setting out and ended up in the middle of a caravan site we didnt even know was there. Then when we found an exit squashed though it and ended up in the middle of a golf course :rotfl:
When we got back on track we went up over the cliffs and the amount of people on their phones amazed me either taking the dreaded photos or chatting or texting. Please look at the view it was wonderful put the ruddy phone away and JUST LOOK.

I do have a digital camera which I promise has never ever been out of the house and is used now and then to take photos of things to be sold. Which are then deleted straight away :T

So all in all I have had a wonderful weekend and week and long may it continue :)

Have a lovely time at the Castle GQ :) I also hate the Gifte Shoppe :rotfl:at any of these places. Stems from (I think) my son wanting some plastic tat in the shape of a Hippo at the Zoo many moons ago that cost about the same as my days pay :rotfl:So yes it stayed on the shelf with its plastic tat friends for some other wealthy parent to buy ;)

Housework today but dont care if its not finished I will be doing something lovely later just not sure what yet :D

    Enjoy your day all

I have just had a message from MSE badger reminding me that I have been a forum member for 10 years!

Fantastic news Charis, I'm MSE Badger and I've just given you a badge!

Wowee! 10 years since you joined the MSE Forum! Here’s to another great 10 years saving you cash! Huge congratulations from everyone at MSE Towers! Don’t forget to celebrate on the Forum!

It made me think of all that has happened in those years, some life-changing events, I never predicted how grateful I would be at times for online friends and the easy banter that carries on here, while real life events seemed so overwhelming. In addition to the money saving and helpful advice, the Old Style Forum is my virtual home, somewhere I always feel welcome. Thank you all for your cheerful and sometimes hilarious comments, especially GQ, MavvyMoo, Mrs MP and all the others who post here, on the KonMari 2016 thread, my current MSE virtual home. Sadly I arrived on this thread just a bit too late to join in with iQueen but have taken on board her advice which Mavvy often reminds us of...Do It Now. Perhaps I should stop typing and shred something :rotfl:

    Morning all
Had a busy morning so far, ds2 had his orthodontist appt so that cost me a couple of taxi journeys. But good news is she's discharged him back to the care of his own dentist who is within walking distance. So that's:money:

Hope all are well, you all seem really busy and most importantly everyone seems happy and rather positive. Which is good.

    Mins game day 12
Pair of trousers I wore for painting, they had a broken zip which kept heading south so now the bedroom is finished I've binned them
A wooden picture frame still boxed - a friends sister ordered it from studio cards years ago and it came with the names spelt wrongly in the carved personalisation. Friend thought because I was 'crafty' I could do something with it. I did I put it one of the drawers under the bed where is has stayed for about 10 years:o - CS
Pair unused still boxed earrings - CS
Old retainer of Ds2s that needed replacing as he didn't wear it enough so it became uncomfortable and didn't fit - binned
At least 8 assorted leads and cables of varying and up remembered usage. - recycling skip at Dh work.

    Have a joyful day all.

Ps charis congratulations on your 10 year badge, I got mine as well recently it really made me smile when I got the message about it.
Can't believe I've been waffling on here for 10 years! They do say time flies when you are having fun don't they.
I'm certainly realising as I get older (and hopefully wiser) that less is certainly more! I value time spent with friend sand family over possessions and prefer space around me instead of clutter. As for 'must have' items who decided I must have them? Not me that's for sure!!!! I would sooner have a few things that bring me absolute joy over the house full to the rafters with stuff, most of which either dies in storage, or you can't find it when you actually need it so you may as well not have it.

I spent yesterday converting 3 perfectly good but wrong sized sheets into a valance to cover the old base of our bed. The mattress was replaced a couple of years ago so we don't need a new bed and the base is fine just looks a little old and tired. Now the base will last longer and the sheets won't just be sitting in storage. I got more statisfaction from doing that than I would have buying a new valance.

I am a bit late to this thread (240 pages in!) but I've just seen a recommendation for the Marie Kondo book: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying and have bought it from EBay for about £2.50

I'm not really a hoarder or clutterbug but I am a bit untidy and my flat needs a good clean!

Welcome Dill , you may not be a clutter bug but you'll still find plenty to kondo believe me. I always thought I was quite tidy and got rid of stuff I don't need. But I found loads to get rid of and still am !!:rotfl:

I posted this on my diary as well, but it really belongs here:

It took 5 1/2 hours, but I did it. I only kept about 5 things to sell, it felt more important to get the clothes out of the house ASAP than to make an extra pound here and there.

I have all my too-small-but-keeping clothes in one large and one small suitcase stored in the closet, everything else that fits is hung up or put away in the drawers (rolled and folded as in the book, the space left is astounding!) I took 6 huge bags to the charity box across the street.

I did make an unexpected stop in the middle - once the closet was empty, it seemed like a good time to make the shelf. Not sure how smart this was, but 45 mins later and it was up. Well worth the extra effort.

I managed to do my all my handbags (now in the wicker basket on the new shelf) and some shoes, but the rest of my shoes are scattered around the house so need to get them all in one place before doing it properly. The ones in the bedroom are in the grey laundry basket under my clothes.

It was very hard work, I don't know if I could put that kind of effort in every day but certainly at least twice a week. I feel like I accomplished something huge today.

Before (there's clothes in the blue and red suitcases, too):

:T Wow, Thistle-down, just wow. That looks so much better and the clothes which are actuallhy hanging still look like they've got room to breathe. Congratulations.

Welcome to Dill, also, and anyone else new I've missed due to being very busy and (it must be admitted) ocassionally a bit ditsy.

I'm not MinsGaming atm as am not at home. I have taken loads of papery carp out of the wall unit (with consent) and put it in the recycling bin. I have also brought my WIP rug with me to the parental home and have done quite a bit of work on it already.

Mum asked me if I have enough wool to finish it and I said I have no idea, I am just making single row stripes until I run out of wool or I finish it, whichever happens first. She said that there is almost certainly some wool in the loft which I can have to chop up into rug-lengths, so may have a go at searching for that sometime this week.

We went to the Castle and, apart from the admission fee, spent nowt. The Castle was castle-ish and sans oubliette but it did have a well which could have done instead, but I couldn't get the metal grille off the top of the darned thing.

We then drove a few miles further to a picturesque market town where we bobbled around the chazzers. I spotted some so-so things which didn't spark joy, so I didn't get them. We did go into the library, as we were in the same county, and took out some books to read. They can be returned anywhere in the county, so not a problem.

I have got two books by authors I favour and a third book for 50p from their for-sale shelf which will be read and donated.

:o I have anti-kondo'd and acquired items rather than shed them. Please don't throw me out of the gang................ :p:o
