Glad you asked, GQ, as I was wondering!
Thistledown that is an amazing transformation, well done. It's really worthwhile clearing an area like that because it's hugely motivating to go back and look at it if you're struggling elsewhere.
Re the large piles, I would sift out any obvious items that you can put in categories, eg books, clothing, and get rid of any rubbish. The rest will just need to be sifted - maybe on the first pass, just apply the 'does it spark joy?' question. That should reduce it to a more manageable size, and then when you get to a category you will be able to pick out items to be put away.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Hello all, I've been a bit quiet as I was getting ready for keyhole surgery I had this/yesterday morning by this point.. All went well, bar a mix-up about not giving me painkillers which actually work on me but once I got home and drugged up I was fine
I have made some unwanted discoveries over the last few days. 5 items with mould on them. The first two didn't worry me much as they are goatskin lamp covers, so got washed down with vinegar then oiled. But three items stored near the walls in my bedroom are showing the start of mould too. In summer!
I have deep skirting boards so all furniture is minimum 1 inch from the wall, and the lamps are free standing. At least one window in the flat is kept open 24/7. I dry clothes inside more often than I would like due to disability.
However, none of this is true of my flatmate's room which always has wet or damp washing and poor airflow.
So I'm hoping one of you amazing and wise people can see a solution. Is it worth me moving furniture out a little more? I have permission to go into my flatmate's room if there's any issue, I should maybe check there isn't loads of mould somewhere in there?
I guess it's a motivation to keep kondoing! But I fear the problem won't be solved that easily. The mould has been found in 3 rooms and poses a risk to basic possessions I cannot afford to replace - clothes etc:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Dragonette - the mould poses a risk to your health. That's unacceptable so your flatmate needs to address it as they are the most likely cause of the problem.
Can they dry washing outside? Or in the bathroom with the window open?
They also need to sort out the airflow in their room.
You may want to consider investing in a dehumidifier and possibly a heated airer.0 -

Perhaps the flatmate should buy these, and cover the costs of any repairs required?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Bless me Kondoers, for I have sinned. I confess to not having completed the departure of anything from my home for some weeks, and indeed brought things in
However on Friday 3 tiers of wedding cake & 27 dessert cakes left, along with 144 bottles of red & white wine, 600 white, milk & dark chocolate truffles with 180 chocolate ducks, and 137 tissue paper flowers! Admittedly some things came home again after DS2's wonderful wedding, but they have all been put into their rightful places
Oh, and we took delivery of our new dining table too
Please grant forgiveness and tell me what is my penance?!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Floss, the occasion and therefore the items involved must have bought immense joy so treasure the memories and enjoy those. In my opinion you don't need to pay a penance.
Mins game day 13
We didn't count the items but filled two black binbags with books and old magazines - the mags went in the paper recycling and the books went in a book & music bank on local carpark.
There were at least 13 items.
Get the new bedroom carpet this afternoon so can finally start putting the bedroom back together tonight.
Have a joyful day all.SPC~12 ot 124

Photos
7 of a holiday in spain where the pictures are very dark or people are very much in the distance, or its of the house we stayed in that makes me feel sick to look at as i was suffering very badly from morning sickness when we were there
1 of me holding a baby that isn't mine, and i don't know which friend's baby (or which baby) it is...
1 of me and OH where he looks p*ssed as a f*rt:beer:
1 of OH and DD on a bike - the picture isn't very good in the first place and we have another the same
1 of me in a restaurant, looking fed up (not with food) by a very phallic looking lamp :rotfl:
6 of the outside of our old house - yes, the wisteria was lovely that year but we don't need a dozen photos of it.
3 of the kids where their heads are chopped in half
1 of a pile of christmas presents, don't know which year. Don't know what they were, don't know why we photographed them
3 from another holiday which are blurred or heads chopped off (seems to be a theme)
1 of some random old building that was supposed to be an arty photo I think. I have long decided that i am no photographer so random old buildings just look like a pile of old bricks when i photograph them.....
"things" to followI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Dragonette, I agree that a dehumidifier should stop the problem, along with opening windows and not having too much damp washing hanging around.0
