*except the magazine rack. We won't talk about the magazine rack :o
:p I wanna hear about this magazine rack.

If you think about it, 70% of a magazine is adverts. Which are quickly out-of-date. Makes you look at those hernia-inducing piles of the blasted things a bit differently, hey?

I have made a swoop through the fridge to round up the last of the fresh food and incorporate it into the breakfast and lunchtime salads, don't want anything in there dying in storage. Getting a bit excited about the prospect of kondo-ing at the parental home, so much scope for improvement there, needs about a 95% reduction by volume to achieve liveability, never mind kondo-glory.

I did tell Mum I'd heard of someone who had 11 sieves and colanders. She seems suitably impressed.:rotfl:

Careful GQ - your Mum may decide to compete! ( Forgot - she can probably outdo that in some areas) please pace yourself this weekend though x
Congratulations too to all on their GCSE results whatever they achieved - can only imagine how stressful it must be.
Lots of jobs to be done today but I think the only Kondoing will be taking a bag to the CS at least the jobs all be kondoed lo!!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • I'm a bit late to the party - came here to wish karmacat a happy retirement and found its already happened! Enjoy - and happy belated birthday to Charly.

Went to help an elderly friend yesterday, she's having a new boiler fitted and needed to clear the cupboard where it will be installed. Stockpiles of washing-up liquid, bleach and floor cleaner boxed up, various cleaning tools that don't actually get used moved. Box of ancient and rusted tools put out of sight 'so the workmen don't help themselves'. A massive wooden trunk had to stay there, I hope the gas fitters are strong!

I managed to gently persuade her to part with some gardening magazines from 2008! Then turned to a pile of post which had fallen on the floor and was a trip hazard (friend is 95 and very unsteady). She had catalogues from last Christmas - pretty much every purveyor of comfy shoes, warm underwear and garden implements has sent a catalogue every two months; most still in the plastic wrappers. We reduced the pile to three recent ones, and a recycling sack I could barely lift.

I have been itching to get rid of some of this, had to work hard not to be bossy and take control. It makes me feel sad though that she has so much stuff, it clearly bothers her but she can't deal with it. It made me realise also how organised I've become with post - junk mail goes straight in the recycling bin without touching the worktop.

Sorry, rambling today - another blazing hot day here, look after yourselves everyone and I hope you all have a good weekend. Looking forward to The Further Adventures of GreyQueen!

It's not the magazines that are the problem :o, actually yesteday I read two a friend had left and they went straight in the 'out the door' pile.

OK........ I'm sure it's not too bad....
    - 5 page print out on short term letting requirements in Spain (where I live :)) - GOING TO CORRECT FOLDER
    - 2 new fly swats - they can stay
    - Very large, posh, kitchen brochure - kitchen plan (from much cheaper place natch :o) due this weekend. - RIP OUT PAGES I WANT TO INCORPORATE AND DITCH REST
    - Spanish magazine to help with learning Spanish - turns out you actually have to pick it up and open it for it to do any good :rotfl: - PUT WITH OTHER LEARNING STUFF
    - Remnants of notebook used for verb practice - PUT WITH OTHER LEARNING STUFF
    - 2 week old paper - OUT THE DOOR
    - bits of paper, not needed - OUT THE DOOR
    - Car insurance docs - think they are duplicate - CHECK I HAVE A COPY IN THE CAR AND FILE
    - Book bought for Mr GG on local Spanish history as he's interested in it - see comment re Spanish magazine :rotfl:- PUT IN HIS BEDSIDE DRAWER
    - Small paper pad from a hotel - STICK IN HANDBAG AS WILL BE MAKING NOTES ON A FEW THINGS IN NEXT FEW DAYS
    - California Road Trip book - bought well in advance of October trip so I'd have time to read and digest. Again, see comment re Spanish magazine :o. - LEAVE IN MAG RACK WHERE IT WILL NOW STAND OUT
    - 4 Spanish phrase/grammar/general learning books - PUT WITH OTHER LEARNING STUFF

So, as I suspected, not too bad and I now just have the California book in there, to be added to with this week's free papers till read. You may have noticed there are rather a lot of learning things. These have just been placed neatly in a wicker lidless box, nice and neat, along with the other learning bits n pieces (including some nice pens :D). Joy has been sparked :)

karmakat give it a few weeks an you will wonder how you had time to work you will be enjoying life so much.
GQ love your adventures at the homestead.
The rule of 3 what a great idea - will use it when I pack next week.
Off to meet some pals this morning and have been tidying out some makeup and skincare so the bits I don't use are being offered to them instead of staying and cluttering up my chest of drawers.

Happy retirement, Kc! May tomorrow be the wonderful start to this new chapter of your life :) xxx
    Thanks greent!
Bestie's bday today. In the spirit of kondo I have got her a kindle voucher (she had a kindle from her OH), flowers and wine :)
Ooh! Make sure she knows where to find the lists of free books - kindle/kindle books/bestsellers - which then divides up, in every single category, to "paid" and "free" :D

I feel that I also need to write one of my to do lists so as to plan the tetris drawer manoeuvres tomorrow, or else I 'll get in a real pickle. Our house is so small (although prob large compared to GQ's flat :)), that I can't deposit stuff on the landing because it is only the size of a phonebox :rotfl::rotfl:
My landing's like that - 3 doors, and each takes up a whole side of the landing :rotfl:

Karmacat, how exciting to be getting a whole room back. Wishing you a very long and happy retirement.

    Charly, happy birthday for yesterday.

Wort, take it easy - hope your foot heals very soon.

Mrs MP, something better will come up for DS. The course I originally wanted to do was cancelled last-minute so had to do something different and it turned out to be a far better match for me than the original course would have been. Would maybe an apprenticeship suit?

greent - congratulations to DD and DS1.

Shed cleaning was started on Wednesday and a few more things have found their way out. Lots more to do but it is looking so much better.

I did get rid of some ice skates years ago when first diagnosed with arthritis as knew they would never be used again, but clarinet has not been played for 30 years and hands and wrists are so badly damaged now that there's no chance of it ever being played again by me, so why do I still have it?

Pint glass broken during washing up yesterday - soon won't have any crockery/glasses left!

Will be home over the weekend so Kondoing will take place alongside boring old jobs which have to be done. Looking forward to GQ's tales of Kondoing from the homestead and am very envious of your being allowed to Kondo friend's emporium - sounds like my idea of heaven.

    Morning all
Hope everyone's as well as can be
Greent congrats to your DS, brilliant results.
Ds2 stayed over at a friends last night, still clearly licking his wounds, I'm not ranting at him what's dones done and nothing will alter the results so we need a plan and ranting at him won't sort that, he's left his results with me and plan is he meets me at college after Drs so we can sort something out. Trouble is he doesn't know what he wants to do so I don't think an apprenticeship is the answer, but we'll talk to someone there and see what if anything they can suggest or offer.

My woo moment came the other day, I found out I am getting a full day of paid extra work again (which alongside the two days volunteering tied to my course) I will be kept busy.

Just consoled myself spending some time looking at a wedding dress site someone at work told me about, I've now forwarded it to dd3 and hopefully we'll go visit the shop soon.

    Have a joyful day all.

Last night I packed our 1 suitcase for our weekend at my parents'. My dad is throwing a 75th birthday party :). In the (hand luggage size) suitcase: swimgear for 4, party dresses, sun dresses, night gear, underwear, non-party gear, toiletry bag, nappies for youngest dd.

We will give dad our wireless set of headphones (still relatively new, and we still have the box); he enjoyed them when visiting us, and has asked for a set. Normally, they sell at around €200, dh bought ours for €80 at some auction site. We will look for a new set for ourselves.

Dds have made drawings/art for granddad. A visiting friend suggested they should buy something, that a drawing was not good enough a gift. I disputed that, knowing that my parents have plenty of stuff, and that they are clearing out their house. Every time I visit there are at least two boxes full of stuff waiting for me to see if there is anything in there I'd like to keep. If not, it goes to charity/friends/shelter/... Thank goodness my parents and I see eye-to-eye on this one: we don't need more stuff!
