KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

In our house, many things are 'on their way' to their proper home. It makes for small piles on the stairs, on the desk, in the toy area; everything just waiting for the first person to go in that direction and put stuff away. It makes sense to me, but I think my family members have sight problems
We have faeries in our house that do that...........we also have a laundry fairy, a put the recycling out fairy and a return the recycling trolley to the proper place fairy:) Of course they are the cousins to the toilet roll changing fairy and the pick up the towels fairy. The ironing fairy has however now left and will only come back when the clean and folded clothes done by the laundry fairy, are put away and not left in the floordrobe:mad: Thank God we havent got a dog as I am sure there would be a walkies fairy too...........the Head Fairy is a responsible dog owner who believes owners must clean up after their dogs however said Head Fairy is so responsible she wont have a dog because she refuses to pick up warm poo and swing it around in a little bag as if its a fashion accessory:eek: hence why responsible dog owner Head Fairy wont allow a dog. Makes perfect sense to me;)Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I think I have finally sorted DS3's clothes and footwear. The downside is, he now has very few clothes. He's grown so much in the last 12 months. His feet have grown by two sizes, and he now fits, to his delight, the clothes for his age.
The rain stopped so we went to town and bought a new blazer, white PE top and black rugby shorts. We also got pencil case, rubber, pencil sharpener, folders and rulers.
The good news is, his older brothers outgrown coat, now fits him. He's delighted, it's a popular make with the youngsters and I'm sure he will get lots of wear out of it.
I've got a bag of rubbish, a bag of shoes and a great big bag of clothes for the charity shop. DH added a coat that he hasn't worn for ages.
A productive day.

Stash cupboard is all neat and tidy some excess is now in a charity bag. Still struggling to fit it all back in. Most random items I found are a darning mushroom, and a little panty-hose repair kit (incase you're wondering it contains threads of various deniers and shades and a little book of matches for sealing runs.) I have never and probably will never darn a sock or a pair of tights so will pass these on to a friend of mine who loves all things retro and pays an absolute fortune for vintage seamed stockings and tries to make them last as long as possible.SPC~12 ot 124

MrsMP I have several skeins of "silk hose" and "lingerie" darning threads in a range of colours, liberated from my late MiL's sewing tin - would your friend like those too?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

GQ, yet again you've said something quite profound - my mum did not tidy, and she didn't clean much either! I don't know about the latter although I suspect it was partly dependent on the former because as we all know, cleaning is hard to do when there's lots of stuff around.
She was the product of a very poor rural childhood in the 1920s, where there were fewer than five books in the home until she began to win school prizes. She then spent many years living with rationing - don't forget, it went on till the 1950s, not just during the war. By then she was bringing up a young family. It's not surprising that she hated waste and didn't like to throw things away. Many of my clothes were what would now be called 'refashioned' :rotfl: and she did things like sides-to-middle sheets, and unpick jumpers to reuse the wool, she was very thrifty. But I honestly never learned to throw things away; I still struggle to throw away food, and I have a strong tendency to imagine alternative uses/upcycling possibilities for things without being very realistic about my time, skills and motivation!
Looking forward to the next instalment from GQHQ - we love the storiesLife is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -

I love all the stories on here.
I'm with the Head Fairy on the dog ownership issue. I'm sure millions of people gain much pleasure from their pets, and I do actually like dogs to the point I've done live-in pet sitting during one period in my life, but I could never bring myself to have one of my own.
Really lazy day here today, I work weekends plus two week days, so Mondays feel like an indulgence. I did however kondo the car interior when I nipped to the shops, so all rubbish has been binned and a small bag of clothing has gone to the clothing bank. My six items a day policy from the hall heap is working well, and my bedroom remains delightfully clear.
DD kondoed her garage last week ahead of the delivery of her new kitchen which arrived flatpacked and palleted. I took delivery as they were away that day, and the guys who delivered were very happy and told me the empty space was perfect, just the way the way they like it, so presumably there are people who don't make it that easy for them...“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
Yes, Mum taught me how to sides-to-middle sheets and unpick jumpers to get the wool. Both of which I still do, I use the wool for charity blanket projects and rug-making.
Mum was born early in WW2 into dreadful poverty in London's East End, and taken into care, eventually ending up with a poor country family. Money was tight, rationing was going on into the bits of their childhood that they can remember, and my parents are both thrifty.
The problem occurs is when a household keeps all the old stuff for Andy and Justin and then also buys new stuff. So, you have some towels which date back to the start of the marriage 50 + years ago, and some which were bought in the past few years. Instead of an orderly progression of use 'em up and wear 'em out, it becomes a case of pile 'em up and pack 'em in.
This leads to every corner of the home being stuffed to the gunwales with Stuff, to the great inconvenience of the household and then more Stuff gets bought because you can't remember what you already own or can neither recall not find it. And then some of those things die in storage. :wall:Ahem. I'm sure we've all been there; only the details change.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'm adding myself to the list of those waiting for GQ's storytelling this weekend!
I introduced my mum to KonMari and whilst not in the same league, I have helped her with various bits of Kondoing- linen cupboard, wardrobe, sideboard to name a few.
I don't have the same knack for a good yarn though so I shall look forward to the next installment!
I'm off work next week so planning some major kondo works of my own at home."Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

Morning all.
Decision made last night was we don't want to keep the aquarium any more so that is going chasser at the weekend, it a biggish one on a stand so will free some space- it was quite a big set up for just the one fish we had- it died a couple of years ago so tank has been sitting awaiting Justin's decision ever since then.
Need to get into spare room (that is still rather a contradiction in terms in this house) and get tank out and see what else is in there that can join it if we're doing a CS run.
Have a joyful day all.SPC~12 ot 124
