Thank you milasavesmoney.
I love my fabric stash but even though it sparks so much joy, it is still too big!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I have just kondoed a handbag that I have been using every day for a year and that is getting worn . I got rid of a lot of bits and bobs and have transferred things I want into a new unused handbag (gift at Christmas) and can now find things easily.
If the new slimmer and taller chest of drawers arrives today or tomorrow then I can tidy up and kondo my bedroom. DH's antique rocking chair has been reupholstered and can now be used and enjoyed. It looks so nice I might even put it in the master bedroom.
With all the building work over the last six months things have been constantly moved around in boxes. Most of the boxes are now unpacked or at least labelled. By the end of September I would like to have everything unpacked and either kondoed to someone who could use it or else stored away tidily and easily found."This site is addictive!"

In between paid work today, I have kondoed a job that's needed doing for a while. I have washed and reproofed my long waterproof Regatta jacket which is a godsend on rainy days in the Autumn and Spring.
I've never done it before as it needed two types of specialist stuff - NikWax tech wash and then NikWax reproofer. Pricey stuff but I won a sachet of the wash stuff on their website and then picked up a sachet of their reproofer elsewhere. I wasn't paying £9 a bottle for each type, no way no how! Besides which, it's a very dark navy, shows no dirt, and I don't plan to do this very often...
It's hanging in the shower now, bit afraid of subjecting it to direct sunlight while it dries, but it's 25 degrees here, so hopefully will be dry by morning. Total cost £3.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -

Point-blank stingy, I am... :rotfl:
At present their website prize is a product for base layers but the prize changes frequently so worth keeping an eye on if you need something.
Mind you the quiz is a sort of comprehension test on their products - handy tip, open it in two windows so you can reference the answers.
The good news is they let you keep trying till you win!:D:D

Just running washer on an empty cycle to get rid of whatever chemical residue there may be. And 2 empty sachets and an instruction booklet just hit the bin/recycling.
Well done your friend's DD. :j“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
Hello everyone,
I’ve lurked long enough. Taken a great deal of comfort and inspiration from this board’s members so about time I posted. I’m currently (still) clearing family home of fifty years. I’m slow. But getting there. My dad died in September 2012 and well, there was a great deal to sort. Both my sister and I have returned to the family home at various points. Stored stuff here. And whenever a family member died and we (any of us) weren’t quite sure about an item or bits of furniture (disposing of) it ended up here. My father was a technical journalist. Copies of every magazine he edited, every book he edited or wrote or reviewed. Thousands of letters. Gas and electricity bills for the house he and my mother lived in before this one. Even the bills from the house his parents owned. He wasn’t exactly a hoarder but he liked to keep things for reference or proof. And I think I have some understanding of why. I’ve done days and days of sorting and recycling. Sometimes it all gets a bit overwhelming. I’ve been lucky in so far that I’ve been living in the house so have not had to rush to do things but now time is pressing and I must get on.
But and this is more on topic, it has radically changed my attitude to my own belongings. I’m single, no kids and not of an age where I’m likely to have any. So there were things that I held onto thinking that I would have kids or children in the family that I felt inclined to give things to (I do but I don’t - sounds mean but really another story.) I’ve not Kondo’d in the sense of following her structure and I will have to revisit all the ‘stuff’ again before I leave here but I’ve started getting rid of my clutter too. I really don’t want anyone to have to sift through piles of my carp. I’m not entirely sure who would do this anyway. But the really major thing is that I’ve stopped buying things in the same way. I just don’t. Buy. Unless it is absolutely needed, I’ve stopped. And I have had times in my life when I’ve shopped and shopped. I can now look back and see I was trying to cheer myself up or compensate for impending loss… It has been really hard throwing some of dad’s stuff in the recycling but I can’t envisage being in a place where I can store it all and no-one else in the family seems interested.
Anyway, I would like to thank short_bird and who’s post finally moved me to post. And all of you for the ‘keep on keeping on’ posts which really helps with the motivation to keep on with it. I frequently log onto the board when I’m looking at another pile that needs sorting.
Thank you. And short_bird - onwards and upwards is an email sign off that I used to use with a great friend when we were both struggling with family issues. So that resonated too. There are so many here to thank, GreyQueen, Clutterfree, Silvasava, Tipsntreats (actually wanted to post a story on the thread you started about our possessions but I was still a bit shy of sharing.)
And well, everyone. Thanks for all the encouragement although you didn’t know I was reading and grateful, you do now. And I feel less of a leech for joining in.

Hello and welcome, RedPanda16. Good to have you decloaked and posting. Sounds like this house has been one of the labours of Hercules.
Are you getting towards the end of it, now?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Great to hear from you RedPanda. You sound like you are doing very well at eating the elephant a bit at a time but it must be hard, physically as well as mentally. I guess you are at a stage where you can see a difference and so you must give yourself a pat on the back :T
DH may be at home tomorrow afto so we could have done the mug kondo but I have got a few hours extra work so I wil not be home to supervise... It will happen, jus not sure when!
