KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Serendipitous maybe you should tell whoever buys you the costume jewellery that you can't wear it due to allergy, and would they wish to have it returned for them to wear? Might solve the problem for future gifts.
That's a good idea, I will have to say it's a new development though as we've known each other a long time. Might have to practice before I do the deed.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
There are a few things which have lived up to expectation - my stand mixer, the woodburning stove and my iPad, all of which I love and use regularly (well, the stove in winter!). Generally speaking, though, I agree that clothes etc don't usually live up to their promise.
It's the thrill of buying something new rather than the actual enjoyment of it, in most cases. I stopped buying Stuff some years ago when I realised that it was the chase rather than the kill that excited me.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Morning all
I think for me it's my iPad and my sewing machine that have proved their long last worth and joy bringing.
Just been out for last look at the recycling pile. Lol.
Bathroom guy rang me yesterday, the skip is arriving on Monday mentioned mil had an old mattress to go in it so he asked for that to be brought round to go in first so it's weighted down under everything else. Dh collected it last night so I'm now starting a skip pile, he has said his dad's lawnmower that's been broken in the shed for over 4 years can go as well. This is a huge letting go for Dh as his dad passed 6 years ago and the mower had been given to us by him so it has sentimental attachment.
Have a joyful day allSPC~12 ot 124

Good news about the skip, mrs-moneypenny, and your DH finally feeling able to part with his late father's mower.
Ther darndest of things can have emotional attachments, can't they? Which can make parting with things extremely difficult, as you can end of feeling that you are insulting the memory of the deceased by not wanting to hold onto every single thing they ever owned.
In terms of consumerism, I'm a bit rubbish. I do consume things, but in a random, hard-to-predict way, and mostly secondhand. Not having TV or reading magazines other than once in a blue moon at the gp/ dentist, I'm harder to manipulate, too. Oh, and not really caring overmuch for others' opinions does help.:rotfl:
This week, I am wearing casual navy trousers and some shirt-type short-sleeved cotton blouses. Several of which were actually ejected from my mother's wardrobe. They're crisp and summery and look appropriate in an urban environment with sandals.
I have removed the nearly-new replacement zip from Mum's jacket, which was the sticking point of that being ejected from her home, and will slope into TK Maxximus towards the late afternoon (if I can be bothered, I detest shopping) to look out for a replacement. She trusts my taste and we're the same size in jackets, so I can try stuff on in her place.
We also discussed another rather tired and unworn-for-years coat which she has. It's under the stairs in the cupboard, apparently, and in mitigation it is hanging up. She doesn't use it as has several others which are preferred. But she could use it, you see. So, it gets to stay for now.The salvaged zip goes back to Mum. She may need it someday.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I would say my most worthy clothing items are a pair of black leather knee boots which cost me £45 in November 1999, and have been worn 3/4 or more times every week from October to March every year since. If I reckon on 45 appearances a year over 16 years, I'm down to 6p a wear!
Household items would be our 750 thread count bedding & duvet covers - DH bought them before we met in 2003, they are washed weekly and still look and feel perfect.
Electrical would be my food processor, a Moulinex bought in 1996 and used 2/3 times a week since then. It is a bit like Trigger's broom - it's had a new pusher, new blade, new lid & new grater plate2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I've kondoed two awful boxes of flavored teas that I have keep for a few years thinking...well I don't know exactly what I was thinking. I have opened the bags (as I heard they may have something that can't be recycled now in bags?) and the tea went into the compost. :A
I am almost through with a family sized box of green tea which I'm mixing with regular black to make my ice tea. I bought it cuz it's 'good for stuff that ails ya'. I don't like it so it's been sitting on the shelf for over a year. This has been an acceptable solution. As nothing currently ails me, I don't know if I'm any better off or not.
I got rid of the tile they took up when fixing my drain in the kitchen. I talked to the insurance adjuster and will be receiving a check by direct deposit. Floor tile will be replaced in the kitchen, dining room, small hall and around the fireplace in the living room because it is all continuous. It's 30 yrs yrs old and I have loved it, but a peachy beige of the late 80's  is not really in fashion any more.
Hopefully, this weekend, I will be Kondoing the grandhounddogs back to DD2 after keeping them for FIVE weeks. We are planning a trip north to take them home :T because daughter has bronchitis.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

I was looking through my bills/ bank statements and found some more paperwork to throw away!:p
Something broke this week so I'm going to have to "donate" it to the dump so I may have to look around for more stuff to join it as the council will collect the rubbish from my house.0 -
Morning all,
I've a question for all you pro's;
Do you bin, sell or pass on the items you no longer find joy in?0 -

Yes, bin if useless (recycling included in general terms 'bin'), sell, pass on and most importantly give to charity shop (CS).
