:) Loving the story about the chairs. I have a small table in my sitting-room. It's made from pine, with turned legs and a plank top, probably at the tail end of the 19th century. Common type of country furniture, and stained darkly, as they did with pine back then.

It was already old when my Nan, as a young bride, bought it secondhand in her village for seven-and-six during WW2. She used it in several homes and at one point used to keep pots of geraniums on it.

In the 1990s, Mum swopped a small COD of hers for this table and I re-finished it and it was at Mum and Dad's. About 10 years ago, I moved from the old flat to this one, the table which I did have was the property of the old landlord and also too big for this place. Mentioned in Mum's hearing that I was on the lookout for a small table - not fishing, had forgotten about this one - and she offered me this one.

I wonder if my Nan, aged less than twenty, had any idea that she'd live to be in her nineties and this blessed table would still be in the family?:rotfl:

Is it sad that I've had to stick my head up into the attic this morning to admire the space I've created. A couple of carrier bags of books will go to sheringham with us as there's an indie bookshop there would may be interested
Not sad at all! I've been doing that the last few days with my kitchen, actually :D

And Sheringham! I'm on holibob round there in September. We like Sheringham :j
Towels, yes, I have enough to see me out, although DD hates me using that phrase. But it's a truth of being in one's 60s, that you come to realise that some things will never need to be bought again. :D
Er .... Well, my *mum* has started saying that about purchases she's currently making, but she's 90 :p I'm 61, and there's no way I'm thinking like that yet, sorry!

Emailed the supermarket before 8 am to say that I'd be bringing their abandoned trolley to them by 9 am, had nice thank you email back after only about 30 mins and the store manager had been rung to say what I was doing and insisted I have a couple of items of my choice from the store as a thank you (!) I was extremely pleased.
That's great! I'm sure I remember from about 15 years ago, when my late brother in law managed a supermarket, he paid over £100 even then for a full size trolley. I expect even the smaller versions cost that these days  Good for you, GQ :)

Can't wait to hear how Mavvy's sale has gone - like everyone else hoping she's raised lots of Dosh, had lovely weather and isn't too tired.
Have realised I still have a couple of my old JL rep curtains that are pushing 50 years old - made them when I married H1. They have seen me through 3 moves but they've had their day. I know I've got some others too that can go. Why am I keeping them?????
Ive had my Mum's ParkerKnoll recliner recovered to match my suite. It's just the right size and in constant use. I think is lovely to have things in daily use that have come down through the family.
Well done you GQ and well done the store for saying thank you to you - better than a penny on a pop bottle lol!

Oh it's always said in jest and not in doom and gloom, but I do find the fact of not having to replace certain things is quite liberating. It means my disposable income can mostly be earmarked for fun things to do. :D

:o I was a bit thrown as hadn't expected anything of that nature, but asked for some eggs (cost £1) and they wanted me to take something else, too, so I had a bar of choccie for another £1. Which I've eaten already - bad GQ !

Been on the allotment for several hours fighting to get back control of the rampant wilderness. Have also done two dump runs, each with two IKEYA blue bags on the pushbike.

On the first run, I took my worn-out and blunt can opener to the metal section and was flabberghasted to see very good, very large stainless steel stock-pot sized pans in there. And other perfectly good things inc a child's bike. I was shocked and asked a worker if someone was pulling such things aside to save them (nope) and then I asked if I could have the pans to clean them up for charity (nope, no one is allowed to take anything from the tip, apparently). So frustrating.

:p:o On my second dump run I did see something useful about to go over the side and asked the person dumping it if I could have it. They said yes so I strapped it to the pushbike and pedalled off. Not saying exactly what it is as it's on freegle right now, lol.

See, if you can ask for something before it goes over, it doesn't belong to the tip and you can have it if the discarder lets you. But you have to be alert and have enough nerve to ask for something as you'll have about 3 seconds to make a decision. I once astonished a friend who was moving and about to shell out money for a new curtain pole for her new flat by coming back from a dump run with a brand-new one still in its packaging. She couldn't believe it - neither could I, that should have gone to a chazzer.

GQ, womble extraordinarie. Very much looking forward to hearing mavvy's update tomorrow, expect that she will lying in a hot bath having a well-earned rest right now.

I noticed when I was I tesco earlier they had a small display area of fruit with a label saying it was free for children to take one item to eat whilst in the stores it's shopping adult. It added could adults ask first if they wanted to eat a piece.
