KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Oh, Slinky, I have been laughing aloud at that link. I've given up worrying that I have apparently (in some respects) turned into an airhead. It's only hormones.......... and possibly chocolate deficiency.
MMF, well done on your weight loss, isn't it a great feeling to reclaim some items (that had previously been damaged by those calorie critters who live in your wardrobe and make things a bit tighter each night)? And then to actually be able to hiff out some items because they're starting to hang off you. Oh yes, that's a great feeling.
I'm still dropping weight at 1.5-2 lb a week, plenty more spare tyres to go, but I'm beginning to look and feel different, and people are beginning to notice. The kicker is, low-carbing is so easy and sustainable it makes a mockery of other diets.
Today I am helping a pal out in the morning, which may run into the afternoon, tbc later. Then I shall have a chazzer mooch for slightly-smaller clothes (step away from that animal print now,GQ!) and some gardening later.
Finished a book last night, one I've owned about 4 days, and it went straight into the donation bag. So much easier to have the KM mindset, and not feel that you have to hand onto everything you ever used or enjoyed.Actually, I tried to do a push-up a couple of days ago, for the first time in about 30 years. The pushing bit was OK but one of my big toes doesn't bend properly and was agonising. I think I shall add that to the list of things which they never tell you at the gym.

Kondoed some Blackcurrants and raspberries from the freezer into 10lb of jam yesterday. Took the part filled bag to the CS to get it out the house. Managed to top it up with a gift photograph album I've never used ( it had a rather peculiar dried leaf covering) a dress and a top and a small ceramic pate dish plus other komono. Found some dreadful lampshades in the loft too awful for the CS so they'll have to wait for the tip. Also donated a DVD and a CD to DS1 - it's going..........!
GQ - try push ups on your knees and cross your feet and lift them off the floor slightly. That way you can still improve your upper body strength. I read somewhere that as you get older one of the fitness assessments is to be able to get up off the floor unaided!! I'm usually too kna***ed and cling to anything handy!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Been through top drawer of filing cabinet this morning to get papers out for tax return. Lots of shredding done and papers put in recycling bag.
Clothes ordered the other day have arrived so will try on later today.
Bottom drawer of filing cabinet to do this afternoon then tomorrow will attack more book shelves.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Neat tip, silvasava, I'll give it a go sometime. Thanks.
Well, didn't buy anything at the chazzers just after lunchtime but did get some veg from the Magic Greengrocer, a bagful for £1.30 so well-pleased. Nothing wrong with his bargain box stuff other than a bit of cosmetic damage but, since I'm hardly a supermodel myself, who am I to be picky?
The weather has closed in and is now in one of its periodic heavy showery spells so I may just stay at home and pull some stuff around, such as trying on the contents of the trouser drawer to see if it's all still too small or whether I can get into some more of it. If not now, then in a few more months, yippee!
I have done my accounts for June and shredded the grocery receipts that live in the accounts envelope, got an annual statement from my bank, which I have filed apart from an enclosure which isn't relevent so I have ripped that up for scratch pad paper.
I might find myself having to do some chores today. Have been putting it off as long as possible but the pixies just aren't up to the job. Akshully, knowing my luck, I'd get pictsies and they'd be at the surgical spirit before you could say Crivens!:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Have run out of oomph now so will rest up a bit - after having the worst fatigue day I've had in a while yesterday, don't want to push it too much and be out of action again tomorrow.
Filing drawer now fully done - just need to clean the dust clumps out of the bottom of each drawer and ask OH's advice about the contents of one particular file.
Shredding pile is quite big and shredder needs emptying so that can wait for OH in the morning too. Another pile needs double checking as brain not on full power but I think most can shred - will try to do that later this evening.
5/7 items of clothing tried on and they are all fab, filling in gaps in wardrobe plus match other things already have so will be kept. Will try the other two on later.
Have worked out why keep buying clothes (this is a fairly new thing). Think it is because for a long time had no choice in what could be worn due to very bad arthritis and could only wear really baggy men's clothing plus loosely tied lace up shoes with no socks. Did not feel pretty and feminine at all.
Once was able to put better things on, they were worn for several years 'til they dropped as had no money to buy new via online shopping and couldn't get out to charity shops for cheaper options so again felt very scruffy at times.
Have low self esteem problems at the moment and guess lots of new clothing is a way of trying to pull up a bit out of that. Will not order any more as just don't have the space to store them all. Once full Kondo of home is finished, have promised myself will go through clothes again.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
We all do it in the way thats right for us, ocean, no one slavishly follows what MK says, I don't think, in spite of how brilliant she is
I'm just realising how little of my house I was able to *use*, when every bit of storage was completely fullsorting my first aid stuff has really confirmed it for me - it was all packed away in a little crate from Wilko, like was *not* with like, it was awful. Now its lovely

Have been throught the trouser drawer and this has brought one pair out to the chazzer bag; they fitted but looked dreadful. Two pairs are almost-fitting but a rash move could bust a seam, so they're put aside for the next 2-3 months and will be tried on again. Five other pairs are going to require another 1-2 stone off to be perfect.
But hey, I'm getting there. I also tried on some tops and a couple of blouses are wearable but a bit too tight, so have those handy for the coming months.
Shopping my own wardrobe is great; I already chose these things and know I like them and they're already paid for, how perfect is that?!
Going to pop some tunes on and get cracking on that mess of a kitchen, it's officially p-ing me off. If I don't come back, pls summon emergency services.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

A mixed Kondo today - I kondoed three swimsuits to the charity shop for a local children's hospice. I hadn't expected to find a home for them, but a couple of days ago I noticed they had bras for sale, so asked about bathers. They said yes, so I looked out 4, and gave them 3. (The fourth I kept just to keep alive a tiny hope that I might one day be a bathing belle :rotfl:.).
My mobile provider, which used to offer an email facility, has decided to kondo it without warning, and although I spent most of the last week trying to get them to give me access to it and following their instructions as to when it would be possible (just to transfer the folders which were on there) it turned out today that they'd cynically been giving me the run-around.:mad::mad: So I shall kondo them as soon as I can.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

My parents are staying here for three weeks, and my mum does the laundry and ironing, while dad does some gardening and fixing minor issues (replacing foot pedal on a lamp and such). I love it that they step in and help, and gladly redo anything not to my liking, waiting until they have left again. Mum is 80 and dad almost 75, and I'm really happy and grateful that they feel up to coming and staying and looking after my dds, who are 8 and 5.
I just let them rearrange my household to their liking, and put everything back where I want it after they have gone home again. With a kondoed household, that's not hard to do.
That is a very kind thing to do for your parents, and you must have so much peace from your positive attitude instead of chafing at it. Respect!!“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

I was up early, a nice man came and kondoed my broken oven element and replaced it with a working one. Due to having "a visitor" gave the place a really good clean. Whilst emptying the bottles from the bathroom I thought how much better it looked empty! So have been thought the bathroom, removed a few bits and reorganised some others. It looks much tidier. A while back I decided to decant shower gel, shampoo and conditioner into empty hand wash pump containers. I find these much easier to use plus I don't drop so much as I did when squirting out of the bottle. I also like the "plain" look. So bathroom is now quite plain and empty!
Then on to the bedroom - dressing table slightly moved, one old foundation kondoed and table top reorganised. I know many of you don't bother with make up but I am a fan, and I do need to have my variety of foundation shades (summer/winter) eye shadows etc. It's not a huge amount but it's a significant size with more than the basics. And it brings much joy to me!
Sadly I still have a pile of paperwork and a pile of sewing to address...Jan 20 - NST challenge
